Anyone else leave a few off your own list and add to your Christmas for others to get ya?

Even the music? I just can't fathom it.

The whole movie looks like a high school play to me. I'm not gonna go into it because it's probably moot to all sides, I thought I was gonna love it. The opposite happened. Just my own tastes I guess.

I too like The Untouchables but Costner's awfulness and the ending's hokiness bring it down several notches for me. And while I love De Niro and appreciate the lengths he went to for Capone (enlisting Capone's tailors for his suits), I'll always wish we got Hoskins as originally intended.
This and the music are the main culprits for me.

It kills me that we may never get the criminally underrated Ricochet on blu ray.

I knew someone was gonna say this. Not gonna take the bait in this thread but I'm more than happy to elsewhere. No one touches Miike's creativity. Not by a long shot. Given the resources he had I disagree with your assessment whole heartedly.

P.S. and don't straw man me by insinuating that I dismissed the other directors you've named. I'm probably the biggest frothing fan of Suzuki in the forums among the others you've listed.

I didn't think he was awful, but he did get blown off the screen by pretty much every other major actor in that film (Connery, DeNiro, even Andy Garcia and Charles Martin Smith in their supporting roles, etc.). Oddly enough, No Way Out came out two months after The Untouchables in the summer of 1987, and I was wondering, "what happened?" He went from getting upstaged by damn near everyone in The Untouchables to going toe-to-toe extremely well with both Gene Hackman and Will Patton (who basically stole the movie and should've been nominated for an Oscar).

Amidst all this Hitchcock talk, the postman has just delivered a DVD copy of Under Capricorn I ordered from Amazon in France. I'd only ever seen it once before via a pretty rough copy on YouTube, and didn't know until recently that it had received an official home video release anywhere. Of course, Criterion will announce the BD a little later today...

Interestingly, it includes a 30-minute supplement with Claude Chabrol reminiscing about Hitchcock.

To me, the trifecta of over the top, brainless action movies is Road House, Stone Cold and Hard Target. It would be perfect if Lance Henriksen also played Brad Wesley on top of playing the lead villain in the other two movies.

And Dune.

Inland Empire had a sensational ending though. Total slog to get there though.

Talk Radio is great. Still timely to this day. I would've loved to have seen Eric Bogosian perform it on stage (or for that matter Liev Schreiber, who starred in the play in a later run).

At Cinemark waiting to watch Casablanca. I’d say I’m the only person below 50 here thus far, but about 15 people on a Wednesday afternoon with time to spare is a pretty good showing.

Ticket with online “convenience fee” is only about $6. That’s great! They get ya at the consession stand, though. $12 for a small popcorn and medium Coke. Holy hell! There’s the greatest argument for having a home theater and film collection of your own!

Isn't that up Shout's alley? (or rights issues?)

It's available on DVD. I'm holding out hope that either Shout or Indicator (now that they have a deal with Universal) will release it.
