Mine's still "Under Siege" (narrowly beating out "Above The Law", and mostly because of Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey), but Screwface is definitely a great Seagal movie villain.
We've gone from director's amazing runs to Seagal films. Criterion should probably make their announcements soon for the sake of this thread. |

Not a lot of B&N sales talk - either here, or in the dedicated thread. I know the coupon situation has tempered enthusiasm in certain quarters, but 50% off is still a great deal.
After saying I was sitting this one out, I've picked up The Magician, The Philadelphia Story, His Girl Friday, and Le Samouraï. Far fewer than usual, but I've got a stack of unwatched, and feel good about taking it easy for a change. ![]() |

My favorite line from "Stone Cold" is when Forsythe is talking to Brian Bosworth about getting out of prison and says in his ridiculous Southern accent, "A pretty boy like you must have served some real painful time." |

It culminated that glorious mini-streak (hey, somewhat pertinent to our discussion early) of stuntman-turned director Craig R. Baxley's B-movie goodness: Action Jackson, I Come in Peace, and Stone Cold. Nowhere to go from there but down (though he had some success with television, most notably his miniseries adaptation of King's "Storm of the Century".) |

Tell me about it. I have a wing of the house dedicated to his film collection. I don't think any two directors, possibly Spielberg and Scorsese, combine to have as many films represented in my collection as Hitchcock.

Agreed. I have it, too. Bought a used copy through Amazon, and it was in pristine shape.
Jamaica Inn ![]() I also imported the MoC Lifeboat before it was recently released here by Kino. |

Many say the 80s offered the best action flicks, and while I love them too, for me the early 90s was a special period, largely for the reasons outlined in the above posts. On top of those, there's the sublime Hard Target, Chuck had one of his best in The Hitman, and we also had the likes of Ricochet, Fifty/Fifty, The Taking of Beverly Hills and even Excessive Force. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Bruce Payne is amazing in One Tough Bastard, would love to see a Blu of that one. Bosworth might not have made many films but he made two classics of the genre in my book. Last edited by BarnDoor; 11-15-2017 at 06:30 PM. |

It's funny, its one of his only films that seems to work on all cylinders for me. Probably because, for once, he had a coherent script from a great writer. Most of his films feel like a few "cool" sequences strung together by nothing. But I love Untouchables.

I too like The Untouchables but Costner's awfulness and the ending's hokiness bring it down several notches for me. And while I love De Niro and appreciate the lengths he went to for Capone (enlisting Capone's tailors for his suits), I'll always wish we got Hoskins as originally intended. |
