For those interested, Beaver has posted some reviews of titles in the Dietrich and von Sternberg set:

Can Criterion release Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995 anime) on Bluray with the ADV Films english dub they can rip from the dvd release that I own (I own the Neon Genesis Evangelion Perfect Holiday Edition 8 dvd boxset) . Funamation doesn't release it.

Ambersons even in it's forever butchered form in HD: Day 1. It will go perfectly with my CAV and CLV Criterion copies.
I was tempted to even get that Japanese BD. And I feel terrible watching the film since it is incoherent at times and forever flawed due to its butchering.

I'm very excited to see Tree of Life coming to Criterion in August. It was my introduction to Terrence Malick's work. It only makes sense this would be his next film introduced in the line, as sequentially all prior work met the standard of the CC.

I'm sure it will happen at some point, not necessarily a Criterion release (in fact, doubtful). However that would most likely be around the same time the final Rebuild film is released.

How so? Can you go into more detail, as Universal International cut Touch of Evil, and reshot scenes, without his permission.

For one, they didn't throw away all the cut footage.

Nope. Khara, who’s making the (awful) rebuild movies now owns the rights to all of Eva. And they won’t allow any re-releases outside Japan until the rebuilds are finished, which is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. Until then, it ain’t gonna happen. And when it does, Sentai Filmworks will probably get the license, as they are the evolution of ADV and (unlike FUNimation) actually care about making good releases.

Outside of a boxset of TV specials from the DVD era (That I'm aware of); Criterion have never released a TV series. I would rather much prefer a box set of Satoshi Kon's works.

That's a funny way to compliment the WONDERFUL Rebuild movies.

I was just clarifying for the poster who wasn't sure if they were mixing up ToE and Ambersons re: footage being destroyed.

I'd never even heard of Amerbsons before this announcement/hint.

I'm not sold on the idea that the released version of Ambersons is a masterpiece, but I will definitely pick this up.

Me neither. It is massively flawed. I'm also still gonna be picking it up though.

The first two acts of the film are so good, they elevate it to the position of flawed masterpiece. A stark changeover in quality happens once the Robert Wise reshoots begin.

Welles' version probably would have been a flat out masterpiece.

I will pick it up because I tend to buy Welles films, except for The Stranger and The Immortal Story.

World on a Wire, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Scenes from a Marriage, Fanny and Alexander, The Decalogue, Fishing with John, Carlos, Tanner '88.

A few also have theatrical versions, but the television cuts/versions are the primary.

A TV movie isn't a TV series.

Does anyone know when their next flash sale will be, either through their website or Barnes and Noble? Isn't there usually one in July? Thanks
