I know it's in theaters now, but is it likely that Barbara Loden's WANDA will be released on Blu-ray by the end of the year or is it pretty much a guaranteed 2019 release?

Someone in the OOP thread said that 12 Angry Men is OOP. Does anyone know if this is true?

No it's not true. If any title is OOP, Criterion will be the first to let us know. Typically an OOP title is listed as such on their website. As of right now you can still purchase 12 Angry Men online.

If anyone that is region free is looking for the two Pabst films, Westfront 1918 & Kameradschaft, Eureka UK has the set on sale for 15 Euros (about half of what B&N would have charged you for the criterion singles during the July sale).

Le Amiche is 6 Euros too. Hell of a deal in comparison to the much pricier Criterion version.

I think some of the OOP talk is being driven by Amazon being out of stock of certain titles - affording Amazon Sellers the opportunity to inflate prices out of all context.

Take a look at the listing for Kwaidan: Right now, Amazon does not have stock - but there are three used copies available; one at $122.89, and two at $499.99 each.

Or one could pay $31.96 for a new copy on Criterion's site.

I watched Wild Strawberries last night. The movie was so palpable. I absolutely loved it.

I saw its influence on two recent films:
Winter Sleep (2014). I thought the conversation in the car between Isak and Marianne in the beginning of the film was very reminiscent of the dialogue and attitudes of the male/female characters.

First Reformed (2018). I know Bresson has been cited as a huge influence on this film, but I saw Evald's attitude very reminiscent of a certain character in First Reformed. Won't say much more on that since it's still a very new movie.

I think my favourite line in the movie was when the two kids come back to the car from fighting and Sara says, "Well, does god exist?"

My B&N haul from the sale was split over two buys, one online and one in-store.

But I also got this through the big target.com sale glitch for ~$28:

How do the transfers/extras compare?

The transfers are most likely identical, but the Eureka set doesn't have the various interviews the Criterion versions have.

I'm thinking of blind buying Mulholland Drive. For those who have the film in their collections, what are your thoughts? I'm intrigued because it's directed by David Lynch whose only work I've seen at the moment is the entire Twin Peaks series (movie included) which I saw back in June and fell in love it. Is it a suspense/thriller and does it contain the usual Lynch weirdness?

Alexander the Great seems like a very odd choice. That was a not well-received film and why I can only speak for myself, it is a very cringeworthy film to watch.

Fantastic film, buy it - but it does have Lynch weirdness. Not TOO weird though, but certainly quite a few WTF moments.

Yeah, I saw Lone Wolf & Cub up to over $100 which is out of stock at the moment on Amazon. I think because of the price matching, a lot of Criterion title are temporarily out of stock which is fueling OOP fears.

For the Pabst films, I'd personally go with the Criterions for the superior transfers. Eureka cranked the contrast on the image, resulting in black crush. There's a lot less visible detail on display, whole swaths of dark interiors are nothing but black. Check out caps-a-holic and DVDBeaver to see and decide for yourself what you prefer (or if you can tolerate it), but I believe the Criterions have the more accurate/pleasing presentations. There's also the additional extras. It does cost more, though.
