The original was on YouTube a couple of weeks back for about 48 hours until it was taken down due to copyright reasons. I hadn't seen it in years, and found the "rehearsal" footage a bit of a slog to be honest - and I say that as a lifelong Beatles fan, and a musician. It's really all about the last 20 minutes on the roof.

The YouTube video was touted as a 16mm copy, and it looked extremely good. The audio (through decent headphones) was also much better than expected. So, Jackson would seem to have some decent source material to work from, which should make for a very strong presentation; it will be interesting to see the result.

It’s fascinating because there are so many questions of how all of it gets released.

Is criterion attempting to license the last few films to make a complete Showa Era set?
Will the non-Godzilla films they got get releases (Rodan,WOTG) get releases? Will everything just be combined in a General Toho sci-fi themed set.

Every once in awhile I do a google search looking for the slightest bit of new info or news. Nothing. I wish someone, somewhere would leak something. If there is anything to leak. While I am excited about the Godzilla films, if Criterion releases War Of The Gargantuas, that will be another one of my all time favorites that they will have put out. That Japanese blu was so tempting with the extras and all but no english track or subs was just a deal breaker. The DVD I have looks almost like some blu rays I own. Has anyone seen the Filmstruck print? I bet it looks amazing....

This film is a masterpiece. Anyone in the NYC area with an interest in film should hasten to see it at Lincoln Center. Also, the book ain’t bad either, especially the latest translation by Pevear & Volokhonsky. Unparalleled writing and filmmaking.
