Agreed. Also how about some Takashi Miike?

Same here. I also agree about Dinner at Eight and Libeled Lady.

Do you have to buy Fires on the Plain from Criterion to get in your collection? I was thinking of picking this up if my b&N has it. The only option seems to be add to your cart or wishlist.

I would love to see the 4K restoration of CHINATOWN (1974) come to Blu-ray from Criterion; one of the all-time great classics of American cinema!

Me too. That movie is pretty close to perfect. The special features on the existing blu-ray are good, but the movie is so rich that it's crying out for more commentaries, interviews, video essays, etc.

4K restoration was released by Paramount in 2017.

I thought the newer blu-ray was the same transfer as the original release?

The Pianist needs a domestic release, first. If Criterion wants to do Chinatown after that, I’d double dip if it substantially upgrades my steelbook.

Agreed. I’d love anything from Jean Harlow. She’s one of the biggest stars of the classic film era, yet you wouldn’t know it to look at her films available on blu-Ray. And when you consider the most frequent leading men in her films are Clark Gable, William Powell and Spencer Tracy, well, it’s mind boggling that these aren’t getting any love.

I wish Criterion would do a Kore-Eda boxset but they only have still walking right?

Josef von Sternberg’s Underworld is another beautifully shot and composed film. It also set the template for all gangster films that have followed since. What it lacks in fresheness after all these years of being copied, it makes up for in sheer craftsmanship.

Criterion’s DVD is first rate (would love to see this whole set on blu) and also has a fantastic score by Robert Israel.

A 4K restoration was completed by Paramount in 2016, so I would be shocked if they released the old master in new packaging in 2017, why would they do that?

It seems likely that The Pianist is with Kino.

Um... Criterion did just that with The Leopard in 2010. A new 4k restoration was premiered at Cannes in May and Criterion still released an old restoration in June.

At the time it was re-released with the new packaging it was discussed on these threads that the disc was simply a re-package and there was speculation that the new 4K remaster which had been shown theatrically might see the light of day on UHD.
