They didn't secure the Blu-ray rights when they did the initial Paramount deal. I suspect that they have them now (I think just about all the other Paramount titles have been upgraded), but just need to schedule it.

I only own her eclipse box because I was waiting on upgrades for her narrative films. Wondering if I should sell off the eclipse series now. They included Bergman’s eclipse titles in the box—is my thinking

I suppose you could if the set's still in print; you could always buy it again if those films aren't included in the box. If it's OOP, though, I'd hold onto it at least until the announcement.

Criterion is now selling the posters for Streetwise and Tiny: The Life of Erin Blackwell.

Not as well known as other Kurosawas like Seven Samurai, Rashomon, Yojimbo, etc this is very good lesser known Kurosawa that really needs to make it to BluRay alongside Stray Dog and Red Beard.

I'd put this in my top ten Kurosawa for sure. Pretty surprised Criterion has kinda stopped putting out Kurosawa films on Blu-ray and surprised this hasn't made the Blu-ray cut. This and Drunken Angel are what I really want on Blu-ray.

Hopefully they are all being saved for that Kurosawa BD set often talked about and hoped for around these parts.

The Paramount blu was from the same 4k restoration.

I had a sneaking suspicion, and have held off on importing the UK box set. I’ll have to see how they compare.

That Demy set is one of my favorites as well. I do love musicals, and Deneuve is one of my all-time favorites. There was a period a few years ago where I must have watched Umbrellas -- and the others, but Umbrellas mostly -- I don't know how many times over the course of like a month. I was addicted.

It's possible that I burned myself out on Demy a bit. I'm going to get back, soon. I think Umbrellas is one of the most lovely films ever made, by anyone, in any language.

Huh, I don't know this movie at all. I got #283:

It sounds very interesting. Not a lot of FUN, but interesting. Might have to pick this up.

It’s part of Wajda’s War trilogy boxset. All of the films in the set are well worth checking out.

I'm unfortunately not familiar with his work at this point. I've of course heard of him, I just need to change all of that soon.

Does the Criterion Collection do more of their own restorations compared to other non-distributor labels, like Arrow or Indicator? Some research seems to imply that but its hard to find a primary source

It depends on the studio and film. Most of their Fox, Paramount, Sony, foreign-language titles titles are studio/licensor supplied masters (with exceptions such as “The Tree of Life” with the extended cut and “Young Mr. Lincoln”). Many of their MGM and Universal releases are in-house remasters but not always; usually, a good indicator of Criterion doing a remaster is if Lee Kline is mentioned in the booklet credits.

Ok, thank you. I'm working on a running theory that part of why Criterion seems to have less special features than your Arrows or Indicators is because they invest more in their own restorations, and what you said would make sense considering they've been doing more independent American cinema lately

Almost every Indicator release uses a master supplied by the licensor.

One of the reasons that some Criterion's are lighter in extras is that they really try an avoid redundant content, so interviews are often cut tighter than those on other labels.(I seen someone recently mention an Indicator title, I want to say it is Night of the Demon, has two pieces on the music that are almost identical in content. That sort of redundancy strikes me as padding as the two pieces should've been cut together into one featurette.)
