How much are the odds that this is the last post in the Criterion thread and this thread never reaches page 1001 for some reason?

I actually have been thinking of making a binder type thing for my Criterion movies. Something that each page holds the disc and booklet of a film. That way, no worrying about damaged cases or whatever. The disc art and booklets are ALWAYS fine.

P.S., once again, just thinking about it.

HAPPY 1001 PAGES!

Checked the store for my copy after work...didn't arrive yet and the cashier said that it wasn't showing up as supplied at the warehouse.

That doesn't sound good...maybe Kino was late in sending out copies to specific vendors?

Mine supposedly shipped yesterday from Barnes and Noble, but UPS still shows that they have yet to receive the package. Modern Times and Night of the Hunter are in that package as well.

Just noticed that unlike with The Leopard, they will be using the Cineteca di Bologna/Film Foundation restoration of Senso, that upgrades it to a definite buy, horrid cover or not. I don't suppose Criterion has ever changed a cover after an announcement?

The title looks pretty cheap and unmatching but I don't mind the design that much. The biggest problem for me is that the painting feels like it's just not skillfully enough executed for that kind of style. Would have been fine if it had looked like Gone with the Wind, as it is it comes across as somewhat amateurish.

They changed covers before. A Christmas Tale being the most recent.

I don't mind the cover. What I'm not clear on is whether this is a newly created painting or something from an older poster for the film. I quite like the colours in the image. But Farley Granger's head doesn't look quite right in relation to his body.

I didn't realise that the cover for Sweet Smell of Success was newly created: http://surebeatsworking.blogspot.com...f-success.html - it has the look of a painting that could have been done in the 50s. Very cleverly executed.

It looks like new artwork inspired by these 2 old posters.

To me, the Criterion cover looks a bit like a photoshop "painting" but that's probably just because of the compression of the image. It'll probably look better in hand.

Just watched Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence. Or should I say, I just suffered through an agonizingly slow first hour then was fairly but not overly entertained and interested in the second hour of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.

Just got back from my locak Barnes & Noble and we sifted through their Criterion Blu's and I got 'Modern Times' and 'Charade' on Blu-ray for $20 a piece. I want to get 'Night of the Hunter' as well.

I wish Crtiterion would release 'All That Heaven Allows' and 'Written on the Wind' and 'Magnificent Obsession' all starring Rock Hudson. I also wish they would acquire the Rock Hudson/Doris Day trilogy of comedies 'Pillow Talk', 'Send Me No Flowers' and 'Lover Come Back' and release them on Blu-ray since Universal apparently isn't going to get around to it anytime this decade.

The same thing happened to me with the "Steamboat Bill, Jr.". It ended up being delayed for a couple of weeks when I ordered online through B&N. I think it might just be safer to order through Amazon if you want to get a Kino release in its first week.

However, with that said, the nearest B&N by me had a DVD copy of "The Complete Metropolis" on its stocking shelf yesterday (but no blu-ray).
