We'd be a playoff caliber team in any other division, but I see the Yanks and Rays taking control of the division before long. I think the future is very bright for us, we have some good up and coming talent.

Giants@Pirates starting right now at PNC Park. NO RAIN DELAY TODAY...at least not before the game starts. I'm sure we will see one before the game is complete though, thunder showers are in the forecast and the radar does not look completely stable.

Its Wellemeyer Vs. Maholm tonight in front of what they are saying is a sold out crowd at PNC Park. Should be a good one, go Bucs.

Looks like we are good for now, but how about this Pirates offense tonight?

McCutchen- 2/2 2 Doubles
Walker- 2/2 Single, RBI Triple
Milledge- 1/1 Double
Doumit- 1/1 Sac Fly, 2 Run Homer, 3 RBIs

Oh and by the way, Wellemeyer has only recorded 6 outs. Go Bucs

The Rays could of made it a game today, but error(s) and not driving in runs will make it hard to win! (RISP: 0-5) Hopefully, they can win tomorrow to avoid the sweep!

At least the Yanks lost!

They just showed a couple getting married inside PNC Park before the game, everyone at the wedding is in attendence at the game tonight as a little party. Now I love baseball, maybe its just me, but is it a little overkill to get married inside your favorite teams baseball park?

Yeah I agree.
Our Starting pitching is solid with our Ace; Marcum, plus Romero, and Cecil are emerging as stars. With Litsch due back against Tampa next week and our offense continuing to pound the homers, we'll be a tough team to play.

Once Hill and Lind get rolling like last year, we'll definitely be a threat.

How long is McCutchen locked up for? He's the type talent you can build success around, hopefully he shows loyalty and sticks around Pittsburgh for the long haul.

From what I read he's in the last year of his current contract making $422,500 in 2010. If this is true they'll have to pony up a considerably higher contract to extend him, and I cannot imagine them not doing so.

Even the cash strapped Rays managed to extend Longoria to a long-term deal at something like $8 mill per season. McCutchen is worth at least close to that if ya ask me.

You can't imagine them doing so? They can't afford to lose McCutchen. If McCutchen leaves, everything the front office has stood for is gone. McCutchen is the face of the franchise, and the best player on the team. McCutchen will not leave, it would make no sense.

On the other hand, good win for the Bucs tonight. To be honest, McCutchen SHOULD have had a cycle tonight, he had a great chance at a triple and he held up. Oh well, he will do it eventually I have no doubt. How about Neil Walker, this kid is absolutely on fire. First triple tonight, I'm really excited to see what Walker can do the rest of the year.

I'm kind of distracted I didn't really read your post too much in depth hahaha my bad man. I've just been hearing so many people say "the pirates never give anyone money they won't resign Cutch or Jones," I just assumed your post said the same. I agree with you then for the reasons I outlined above

Nah, Cutch is too good for any team to let go of. Especially so at his young age and room for growth. And I think a lot of people are just so used to the Pirates being cheap they just don't believe they'll ever spend money.

I never get it though when people refer to the Pirates as a small market ballclub. I never hear anyone refer to the Steelers or Penguins as "small market." The Pirates have a great history (pre-1993), a good sports city and a fantastic ballpark. There is really no good reason why they cannot build and pay to maintain a winning baseball team.

On a side note go Braves! They were down 2-0 against the Dodgers in the 7th just scored seven runs to take a 7-2 lead. What a pickup Troy Glaus turned out to be this year.

Hehe... I was a bit nervous in the 7th with them still down 2-0. But 7 runs in one inning is always good. I cannot believe we picked up Glaus for under $2 mill this year. He's been incredibly productive this year.

To address your first point, I do understand why some people may thing they would not shell out the cash to keep him. Think Aramis Ramirez. One of the best players the Pirates have had the last 18 years, and they got rid of him despite his very young age, and the home run production he created. With the new management however, I do not see a chance of that happening again.

For the second part, when you think about it, hockey and footbal are much different, because they have cap limits. Baseball does not. The Steelers and Penguins can keep up with the Jets, Giants, Chargers, Rangers, Kings, and Red Wings because they are all in the same boat. They all have a limit, no team gets an advantage. In baseball, I mean come on now. Now to be fair, of course the Pirates are not spending nearly as much money as they could be. They are doing this because they know they have no chance of winning a championship in the next couple of years. I believe once the Pirates think they have the young talent, and a chance to win a title, they will throw out the cash to attempt to do just that, make a run for the World Series.

It was one hell of a catch to end the game. I was getting a little uncomfortable in my chair towards the end. If Milledge is going to be hitting .240 at the plate, I sure hope he makes catches like that. Anyways, well played series so far San Fransisco.

We will see you in the series finale tomorrow at 12:35 Est.

It will be Ross Ohlendorf Vs. Tim Linecum
