Ya..it looks like you will stay inside where it is warm. Hopefully your daughter grows up a Yankees fan though. My main reason for going was because the last time it happened was '00..seemed like such a long time ago..I know I'm going to get bashed for saying that haha.

But ya..I had class and couldn't miss anymore time.

10 hot offseason storylines

Quote:
Less than an hour after the San Francisco Giants' Brian Wilson had struck out the Texas Rangers' Nelson Cruz to end the World Series, the Major League Players Association sent out a release: 142 players were eligible for free agency, and the signing period begins in five days. And so began the offseason, which is indeed a misnomer for there is no offseason in baseball anymore. This winter won't be as explosive as some others, but here are 10 storylines to watch.

Industry sources tell Jon Heyman of SI.com that Derek Jeter may ask the Yankees for a six-year contract this winter.
A six-year deal would take him through his age-42 season. In theory, this would be a contract similar to what the Yankees gave Alex Rodriguez before the 2008 season. Jeter would have had a better case for such a deal if he was still at the top of his game, so he'll have to make a compromise eventually. One way or another, we fully expect Jeter to be back in pinstripes next season. Nov. 3 - 1:28 pm et

I'm glad I did it but I probably won't be going back again, unless my daughter wanted me to go with her (20 months old right now ).
That sounds just like a line for a Disney ride. Ya... sounds really fun.

I'm not saying he won't be very good for the next year or two. In fact I think he will be. I'm just saying 4+ years from now he probably won't.

6 years for Jeter? That is ridiculous.

For all he's done for that organization I'd say give him two, maybe three years of big money. But asking for six years, especially if he wants $18 mill plus is ridiculous. No team is going to give him more than 2 or 3 years at a top-tier salary.

That's the thing though. He's got the Yankees by the balls right now. If they let him walk to another team and not retire a Yankee, NY would probably riot. I'm dying to see how much is going to demand per year.

Guess is a front loaded contract for about $14 million per year in the first 3 years and then 3 more years for $6 million each with escalators for performance.

The thing is no team would offer near the years or money the Yankees would. Jeter is an average at best shortstop at this point in his career. I honestly think if he hit the open market he couldn't get more than a 2-year, $10 million contract. I think the Yankees and Jeter end up with a 4-year contract in the $50 million range.

I agree. Unless Boston offers him $15m/year to sell peanuts, as a joke.

Can you imagine Boston outbidding NY for Jeter just to be spiteful then he finishes his career as a Bo Sox?

I think he will get more than 12.5 million per year. The Yankees threw the old farts Posada and Rivera 13 & 15 million dollars. I don't think it's out of the realm for the Yankees to overspend.

No they wouldn't. I know a lot of Yankee fans and while all of them love Jeter and some would be a bit upset, most would acept it if it appears that Jeter is clearly asking for too much. No other team is going to give Jeter more than a 3 year deal and even that wouldn't be close to what the Yankees could pay. My guess is in the end Jeter gets a 3 year deal with possibly a 4th year option for a bit less than what he's getting paid now. I'll bet no other team would pay him more than $12'ish mill per year tops.

Yeah, except replace the screaming kids with drunk, obnoxious adults. Like I said, I'm glad I did it... but I probably won't ever go back for another parade.

I say 4 years $60M with a $10-12M option for the 5th year.

First bit of news. Adrian Beltre declined his option with Boston next year...hardly a surprise. The one that does surprise me a bit is that the Rangers declined next years option for Vlad Guerrero.
