Carl Pavano's agent told the Washington Post on Friday that his client will wait until after this weekend to decide on a landing spot.
Pavano has drawn heavy interest from the Brewers and Nationals, and the Twins have also expressed a desire to re-sign him. The 34-year-old posted a 17-11 record, 3.75 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 32 starts for Minnesota in 2010 and would probably do just as well, if not better, in the National League. He is thought to be asking for a three-year contract worth $10 million annually.

Honestly I think the longer this drags on the worse it is for the yankees unless they just blow the Rangers away by like 30 million. I heard on Hot Stove the new part owner of the Rangers some billionaire flew down after the Yankee's offer so that might be a bad sign.

Carl Crawford was plan B. It would be an unmitigated disaster for the Yankees if Lee resigned with Texas. They do not want Pavano at all and Greinke's mental health issues make him all but untradeable to NY.

He had to see like a shrink about something when he was doing terrible. Imagine getting say a 80-100 million dollar deal with the Yankees and the pressure that will come from playing in NY.

From the article Jellybeans posted, I thought this quote from Girardi was funny:

"I see [Lee] as important to us, I do," manager Joe Girardi said. "It's a rotation that right now you look at it -- not knowing what Andy [Pettitte]'s going to do, possibly adding Ivan Nova to the rotation and having Phil Hughes -- it's a pretty young rotation, with CC [Sabathia] at the top of it, so I think he's pretty important."

Good observation. He's gotta have a better year than last year, right?

That said, if Lee does in fact choose to go to Texas for lesser money, then the Yankees are going to do whatever they they can to try and trade for a ace-like pitcher. Will that be Greinke? Who knows. But if Texas does in fact offr the seventh season as an option year, the Yankees may be looking at a very lackluster offseason for the first time in a while.

I mean, the biggest sign was a ridiculous contract to an aging shortstop who will be paid as if he is one of the top ten players in baseball when he may not be in the top 200.

Perhaps lackluster by Yankee standards, but it's not like they had a terrible year last year, and they're bringing back mostly the same team (Pettitte is a question mark right now, but he missed a huge chunk of last season, and they managed to get by just fine). The loss of Pettitte could be off-set by AJ at least bringing himself up to an average pitcher, from the disaster he was last season.

If Lee stays with Texas then it's clearly not really about money, so I would hope Texas doesn't win a WS until after he leaves.

Then again, it may not be about winning either, as much as it is about not wanting to deal with the added stress and scrutiny that comes from playing for a NY team.

I'm not sure what kind of ego Lee may or may not have, though his attitude was part of why he was sent down to the minors a few years ago. If he stays in Texas, he'll be the top guy on the team. If he goes to the Yankees, he's just another big name free agent added to the roster.

That being said, I still hope the Yankees can get him.

This doesn't pertain to MLB, but it does to baseball, so I thought I'd share.

The Australian Baseball League is currently in the middle of their inaugural season. I think it's kind of cool to see baseball picked up in a new country (or continent, in this case), though this isn't the first time they've had a professional baseball league.

The current league features 6 teams, and the regular season consists of just 16 games (it started in late November, and finishes in mid-January... keep in mind it's summer in Australia right now).

I'd suffer from depression too if I pitched for Kansas City.
