I'm saying that Joe should have put his arm around Pineda's shoulder (if he can reach) and say hey, if you do this again then it's going to make the entire team look bad and I will fill your position as a starter.

I love Pineda and I think he's one of the Yankees best pitchers right now with or without pine tar. It's not sandpaper. It's not a thumb tack.

Hopefully he only gets 8 days off and he can throw some bullpens without any help.

The Braves makeshift starting rotation has allowed 23 ERs in 21 games, a 1.50 ERA. Next best is 2.20. The bullpen has been rough though (3.83 ERA), raising the team ERA to 2.16. Next best is 2.59. From the ESPN SweetSpot blog:

The guy gets caught cheating per the MLB rules but the story isnt that he was cheating its that he was so obvious in doing it. Basically MLB is cool if you break the rules just dont be obvious about it. MLB is such crap. They should let the foreign substance be legal and steroids too and he done with it.

Yeah, there's no question that in conditions like yesterday most pitchers would use some sort of banned foreign substance to improve their grip, but Pineda isn't even trying to hide his use. Most pitchers would put it a little of the substance on their glove or cap or behind their neck, but that's twice that Pineda has done it in an obvious manner, and Farrell really had no choice but to call it out to the umps after letting it slide the first time. Opposing managers don't want to call out opposing pitchers, but when it's that obvious and it's the second time in less than two weeks it's happened you can't just let it go.

Allowing it would be a sticky subject (heh) because you have to stop them from putting too much on the ball. Otherwise it does become something that actually affects the ball's flight.

Pineda got 10 games

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Michael Pineda has been suspended 10 games for using pine tar in his start Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Pineda had a big streak of pine tar on his neck on a blistery night at Fenway Park and was ejected by home plate umpire Gerry Davis with two outs in the second inning. His turn only comes up one time in the next 17 games due to conveniently-scheduled off days, so it's not a major hit to the Yankees. Pineda admitted after his start Wednesday that he was using pine tar and apologized for it. He boasts a 1.83 ERA in 19 2/3 frames this year.

and that is really the underlying issue. managers do not want to call out opposing pitchers because they all know their own pitchers are doing the same thing...i mean, most pitchers put it in their glove or under the brim of their hat like you mentioned, so Pinieda needs to stick to that method along with anyone else who is dumb enough to make it obvious

The weird thing about the Pineda suspension is it's believed to be a paid suspension. I don't understand the logic behind a player blatantly breaking the rules, being rightfully punished, but getting paid during the punishment.
