The starters are voted by the fans. Tanaka won't play (he"ll attend though)because he's scheduled to start Sun. Not to mention he's heading back to NY for a MRI on his pitching arm. When it rains it pours. Anyway the whole "the league that wins the all-star game get home field in the WS" is stupid no matter how you slice it. Let the regular season record of the two teams who reach the WS determine it. Not a damn exhibition game.

I do agree that the whole "territorial rights" thing might be what needs an overhaul. Gone are the days of multiple teams in one market. Oakland in no way probably is a top 20 city in terms of population and some of the things covered by territorial rights needs to be reviewed

Like I said before (and this confirms it), stick a fork in this team, they're done. Also Uehara replaces Tanaka on the AS team (Tanaka will still be there but he wasn't going to pitch even before being places on the DL since he was scheduled to pitch on Sun).

That might sound like a big amount, but most of that probably goto medical bills and lawyer fees, hopefully he comes out with a good chunk...

I just hope security is beefed up everywhere, nothing like this should ever happen

I really feel for Tanaka if he does actually need Tommy John. But that is the risk you take with Japanese pitchers. They throw a lot of pitches in Japan.

Tanaka has a small partial tear in his pitching arm. Surgery is not recommended at this time (they'll try to rehab it). He'll be out for at least 6 weeks.

It will all depend on how his arm responds to the treatment. Also, the tear is on his uCL on the pitching arm. If the worst case happens, he would be gone for the 2015 season (and what's left of this year). There is no percentage to the tear (yet).

Official diagnosis on Tanaka

Masahiro Tanaka has been diagnosed with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament.

Oh boy. The Yankees are saying that the tear is small and Tanaka could return after six weeks following a platelet-rich plasma injection. The club noted that the right-hander has seen three doctors and none of them have recommended surgery at this point. However, general manager Brian Cashman also isn't ruling out an operation eventually being required. Tanaka is in the first year of a seven-year, $155 million contract.
