Now that he's retiring no active pitcher is anywhere close to the list. Verlander is the top active pitcher with just 26 complete games. For comparison sake, Clemens had 118 complete games, Maddux had 110, Randy Johnson 100, Schilling 83, Glavine 56, Smoltz 53, Pedro Martinez 46. Doubt anyone hits 50 career CG's again the way the game is headed. Don't even get me started on shutouts, which are next to non-existent these days.

Didn't a Rays pitcher cruising through a game this year get pulled one or two outs away from a complete game shutout because of analytics?

I believe that was Ryan Yarbrough who was pulled.

I’m old enough to remember game 7 of the 1991 Series. If it were played nowadays Morris and Smoltz would be yanked in the 5th inning and each team would trot out five or six pitchers the 10th inning.

The White Sox world series win in 2005 was one of my favorites in the past 20 years because despite how crazy Ozzie Guillen was as manager, he had his starters pitch. In the ALCS, in the five game series win the starters went the following: 8.1,9,9,9,9. In the world series it wasn't as epic but every starter still threw 7 innings each in the four game sweep. Ah good times.

The Cubs for instance won despite Maddon going out of his way to try and blow the whole thing. The team was just too good to lose.

The choke is on in Washington. The only thing they have going for them is they might have Strasburg and Scherzer (if healthy) starting for them in games 6, 7. Not that the matchups are very favorable with games 6 and 7 in Houston and Verlander and Greinke likely starting for the Astros.

That inside the first base line call will be blasted across ESPN and sports radio if Houston ends up coming back. From 2nd and 3rd with 0 out, to a runner on 1st with 1 out instead.

Yup.......what a bs call. This has the potential to completely change the outcome of the game. I would be livid too. It’s under review and I have a feeling it will get overturned.

Great win for the Nationals. That game win was basically best case scenario with Strasbourg going that deep into the game. Scherzer is starting with two other starters available in the bullpen in addition to Hudson and Doolittle.
