Looks like it made approx. $150M US, $282M worldwide, over the 4-day weekend. Fox, you shoulda ponied up that extra $7M for the finale.

nothing was wrong with the finale. And anyway the bigger budget superhero movies still have epic battles at storage warehouses with shipping containers and at parking lots. So more money wouldnt make it necessarily better.

also from that imdb top 250, Deadpool is currently the 2nd highest reviewed superhero movie with Dark Knight still in 1st place.

Just proof people on imdB love the same over-rated comic book film so many other do. To be fair, I had a nearly spiritual experience myself the first time I saw TDK but my affection for it has waned somewhat over the years. Still think it's a very good movie but I wouldn't be surprised if I like Deadpool more.

Once again proving that bad writers can come back and do good writing. The writers wrote the crummy GI Joe sequel. Hard to believe. But before that they wrote Zombieland - one of the best zombie films so maybe these writers can only let loose something special when they have freedom with the R-ratings.

Thumbs up

Saw it last night. Enjoyed it a lot. I'm not a comic reader, and all I knew about Deadpool going in is stuff I've read online. The funniest part was the opening credits, and it's to the movie's credit that it held up in the long run after peaking so early.

I don't really see this tying directly into the X-Men franchise. The tone is just too different. It works well as a parody, though.

After enjoying Kingsman last year, my GF's mom decided to give it a chance and come with us. Her review: "I liked it. It was funny, and had action throughout, so there weren't any dull parts. I didn't like the gore, though." So yeah, this movie overcomes the obstacle of being too niche. It has wide appeal, while still obviously pleasing most hardcore fans. Kudos to Ryan Reynolds for sticking with it, getting it done, and hitting one out of the park.

This happens to newly released films all the time(every week basically)... wait at least 6 months to see where its listed.

That's what people were speculating would happen when the (false) rumours started swirling about Deadpool being PG-13, that it wouldn't be some passive experience but that they'd actually have fun with it. Trouble is, inserting that kind of fourth wall breakage into what are otherwise Serious Films With Serious Themes™ (Singer's X-Men movies) might seem way off the mark. But Singer ain't gonna be in charge of the X-Men forever...

if he gets put into a PG-13 movie.....i hope this is exactly what he does.

and then throughout the movie he keeps trying to make hand gestures and they are blurred out, he gets "sneaky" and tries to fit a curse word in only to have it bleeped out......and every time something like that happens he shows his disgust or reacts to the "bleep."

then makes comments about how it's a "PG-13" movie and he does the "air quotes" w/his fingers.

that would be freaking hilarious!!!

This is to comic movies what Fury Road is to action. Is it the greatest comic book movie ever made? OH HELL NO! Is it entertaining as hell? DFEINITELY!! I give it an 8/10. Make sure you stay through the credits.

[Show spoiler]Oh, one thing though that has nothing to do with the movie itself, but WHO THE HELL BRINGS 6 YEAR OLDS TO R RATED MOVIES?! THOSE PARENTS ARE RETARDED ASS MOFOS WHO SHOULD HAVE THEIR PARENTING LICENSE REVOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, my favorite bits were when he asked which Xavier it is and then why there are only 2 characters around an entire mansion. Oh, and best Stan Lee cameo ever!!

I'm not against a 6 year old watching Rated R films.

It all depends what culture you have that kid in.

Issue w/ that is that most of western culture is very prude and needlessly repressed due to many factors.

I watched Punk gangs rape a woman and cut off some rich snob's nose w/ hedge clippers among other things in one film. I was 4 or 5. Watched and loved RoboCop on TV, I was 3. I saw way too much Mexploitation films growing up. Mexico's output when I grew up wasn't exactly clean. It had gone pretty exploitative and that was the mainstream. My parents also were, for being pretty uneducated among American standards, very good in educating me that it wasn't real. I was always mum in a theater. And I was pretty well behaved too. I only ever cried when the T-800 was going down the vat cuz I LOVED Arnold and seeing him die wasn't something I could register all too well at age 6 somehow.

It all factors in how you educate your kid.

My father loved seeing action films among others that were bloody and the whatnot. My mum? Not so much. But they were fine w/ blood, language, sex, and whatever. When it came to sex in films, I understood that this isn't something kids were supposed to do and I got that. Simple. Bad words, don't say them cuz you're a kid or I'll punish you. Got that quick. Etc etc.

There is a big lack of education in children that is the fault of the parents.

I'm not saying we show kids R films as a generality but it's also nothing bad really. It's all 2D imagery. It's not dangerous. It's impact/influence, in whatever form, is only as strong as its led on by their own experiences that should be moderated by their guardian.

I wish they had used practical gore effects, would be another complaint. I understand the low budget (well, relatively speaking, for a comic book movie) so some of the production values didn't bother me. But I wish we had gotten more outrageous practical guts and shit.

My boys, 5 and 7, know all the bad words, and they know not to say them. You have to educate them, because they'll hear it somewhere and use it somewhere, and then there'll be hell to pay. Blood, horror movies, sex scenes in movies (not porn). They are exposed. Sheltered is bad.

Now, Deadpool. I loved it. My only real exposure to it before was Deadpool in the other Wloverine movie. The power of a good trailer!

Honestly there wasn't exposure for him outside the comic crowd you had:
  • two episodes on X-Men animated series where he was like in a dream and morph turned into him
  • Ultimate alliance games [they were great]
  • HULK vs WOLVERINE he was apart of that movie
  • His solo game on 360/ps3 that is now on ps4/xb1
  • The toys in the 90s

So if you weren't exposed to his toys or comics in the 90s you literally had to have stumbled upon him up until now. Which makes his appeal even more impressive to me.

Deadpool is not secret and is not some unknown character. When you rank the popularity of comic characters, he is second-tier at worst. His fan club has been quite large for some time and constantly growing. This is not some niche character.

Didn't say it was cool guy. But you can't hide the fact about his media exposure prior to this film, which I just listed...
