Pay close attention to her wording. "We'd kind of reboot it and make it the Deadpool that's in the comics." It's not an actual reboot. They'll just have the character lose the extra powers and no longer be a mute. They'll probably finally give him his trademark costume (or something similar) as well. I very much doubt we're getting a reboot. Lauren Shuler Donner would have stated it more directly if it was truly to be a reboot.

As a big fan of Deadpool (and Reynolds) I think that he is perfect to play Deadpool AND I think I will enjoy Deadpool better if done right. However, I have no idea what each film will be like so I'm interested as well as to which will be better.

I wonder what she means by that. Maybe she just wants to say they are in the same movie-verse. I hope that for all intents and purposes it is a reboot.

Have the scientists remove any attributes they don't want to use (like the arm swords), and then have him escape after Wade regains control. No retcon necessary at all. There's not even a reason to get into the details. Again, it can be covered in 5 minutes if they want.
I'd rather see a quick 1 minute expositional retcon that breaks the fourth wall... Just have him pop up at the very beginning and explain to the audience that this is a different Wade Wilson than that appeared in the X-men Wolverine picture.

But how would you suppose they'd remove his
[Show spoiler]teleporting power, his optic beams, his adamantium skeleton? How would they explain his disfigured face that requires a mask?

Quote:
Why is it ridiculous? Who cares what the back story/origin is?
All of the fans that pitched a fit when they saw what became of Wade Wilson during the film's climax.

It's ridiculous because... well... it'd be like taking away Spider-man's costume including his mask, making him able to fly, making his webbing organic and also making him unable to talk.

The only difference is that Spider-man enjoyed more mainstream success in a few cartoon shows before he got his live action film. Deadpool's appearance in the Wolverine film was almost his first mainstream appearance ever.

Quote:
There's no need to even mention the name "Weapon XI" in the new movie. They need to just move forward with the character, not look back.
The character as he is in Wolverine is already dead to me. There is no future for that character.

Quote:
The main plot should pick up years later with Deadpool already an established character. No need for another origin story. They already did one, even if it wasn't quite right.
I can agree with this a little. If they just don't touch ANY of the discrepancies between the comic's origin and the one in the film, they could easily tell a story "later on" and just not even explain "why" he doesn't have any of the powers or things he did in Wolverine. Setting it without a backstory might allow them to use Cable as a supporting character without confusing the hell out of everyone or putting off casual fans who wouldn't be able to buy the idea of
[Show spoiler]Cyclops' son from an alternate future (especially if Cyclops is already dead in the established canon... ugh).
Just don't explain exactly who Cable is.

Why can't you just make a deadpool movie that happens between the begining and the end of wolverine: orgins?

Number 1 reason: no mask/costume. The mask is supposed to hide his disfigured face. And as we already have heard, disfigured face and mask is planned on being a part of this.

But then there's also the fact that his name as "Deadpool" in the X-men film continuity isn't established until
[Show spoiler]he becomes Weapon XI
. I'd sooner've had them not attempt to explain the name at all than pigeonhole it like that, but that's how it is now. For him to be "Deadpool" and set it in the same continuity, it has to be AFTER the events of the Wolverine film.

But look at how Incredible Hulk or Punisher War Zone handled things. They could definitely do it like that. I'd say they should definitely avoid the "X-men Origins" title though. The guy isn't an X-man, not even close.

Hahaha. I love it how they're going to stray away from X-Men Origins: Wolverine's portrayal of Deadpool.

I'll restate my suggestion:

Follow the comics standard approach - say that in order for Weapon XI to have the amalgamation of powers/dna it required a modified clone. Then the original is what the Deadpool movie would be based on. A 2 minute scene where the original is prep'd for incineration and manages to escape with burns (explaining the disfigurment) and .... wah la! A Deadpool origin!

I don't think I'll like Ryan as Deadpool. I see him being the same character as he was in Blade and he ruined that movie for me (besides the crappy story. lol)

Could work - of course, that would mean there are "two" Deadpools out there.
[Show spoiler] Since the last scene in Wolverine is Deadpool reaching out and grabbing his chopped off head.

Deadpool in Wolverine sucked. ALL those powers, and he couldn't beat up a guy with claws? And obviously, they took out part of his brain, cause he could only think of 3 powers to use.

Still I always get a kick out of Deadpool using the massive Cyclops blast on Wolverine - luckily, Wolverine's shirt wasn't damaged too badly.

That's funny, because he IS Deadpool.

And I don't just mean that literally. I mean it figuratively. He is probably the best fit for a comic character direct translation. Ever.

If you don't like Ryan Reynolds in the role, I don't believe it's possible you could like the character at all, particularly in live action. And if it's about his face... remember, the guy should be wearing a mask for most of the spin-off film.

And about the clone idea, I don't think that would work then, because the clone would be distinct and be the one that is Deadpool. What would motivate Wade to take on the identity of his clone,
[Show spoiler]particularly when that clone survived
?

He does claim to be though

I really think what she is saying is that the movies are connected but the continuity won't necessarily fit.

I would not want Cable in the movie; he really slowed down the series IMO.

You cant like the character then because in the comics Deadpool says he is a mix of ryan reynolds and someone else.
