Donner also said in regards to the long-gestating Deadpool spin-off from X-Men Origins: Wolverine;

“It’s a total reboot… We’re either going to pretend that didn’t happen – or mock it, which he could

It’s insane, it’s definitely comedy,

But it’s an R script, it’s really irreverent and violent. Right away, we’re out of the X-Men world”.
This news is fantastic. The news that we're going to see a true to comic depiction of Deadpool, the fact he'll keep his humour and the fact they seem to be fine with an R rated script is fantastic news for the movie. But I hope they mock the previous incarnation rather than reboot it. Things could get confusing with an X-Men 4 script floating around which would lead onto a fifth film according to Donner, and then we have the First Class prequels which they wish to become a trilogy (and possible other Origins prequels such as the upcoming 'The Wolverine'), but at least these films are in the same continuity. If they continue prequels as well of the main series, with a separate reboot just for Deadpool, it could really confuse the general public.

It's best Deadpool makes a reference to it, and they forget about it. I mean, if they pull off this, The Wolverine and First Class, X-Men will become the most extensive superhero universe on screen yet, rivalled only by Marvel's Cinematic Universe. I have confidence in First Class due to Singer's involvement, Vaughn's involvement and the casting of Prof X and Magneto, I have confidence in The Wolverine due to Arronofsky praising the script before his departure (which if rumour is correct is due to family issues and NOT problems with the film or Fox) and I now have faith in Deadpool if the R rated script comes about.

Here is the direct info from Empire Magazine on Deadpool movie and Ryan Reynolds attachment.

Quote:
As for Deadpool, the movie which will reintroduce Ryan Reynolds as the wise-cracking mercenary who was given such short shrift in Wolverine, Donner confessed that it would be "a total reboot. We're either going to pretend that didn't happen, or mock it, which he could do."

No director has yet hopped on board Deadpool, although the film has been offered to the likes of Robert Rodriguez in the past. "We're looking for a director, yes," said Donner who, mindful of Reynolds' ever-growing logjam of work, added that the film would shoot in the next year or so. "He’s very involved, Ryan. He’s working with the writers on the screenplay and it is as much as it is ours."

And Donner also confirmed that this would be the Deadpool of the comics, and not the mute mutant we saw in last time around, right down to Deadpool's scarred face. "I'm tellin' ya, it's true to the comic," she laughed. "You’ll see all of them. You’ll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You’ll see Deadpool in his costume and you’ll see the cancer-scarred face."

Wow. I like the acknowledgement of the R rated script. I wonder if "the film would shoot in the next year or so" means the next 365 days or so.

I know we have discussed the rating to death here, but it is important that the best film possible gets made without any restrictions based on ratings. They could definitely pull off a successful R film with sequels in mind.

I'm still not in the mindset that this will get made. It is still a maybe for me until they actually start filming.

Directors and Writers quite often mention 'R Rated Scripts', but in the end the power of the studio forces them to be PG-13. We all know it will be.

Default Wtf!?!

Have you guys seen this?

Quote:
Tim Miller, who has done strong visual effects work on X-Men and other VFX-heavy films, was just set by 20th Century Fox to make his feature directing debut on X-Men Origins: Deadpool, the X-Men spinoff film expected to star Ryan Reynolds. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script and Lauren Shuler Donner is producing. WME just signed him.

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds made his first appearance as Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, a smart-mouthed mercenary with terminal cancer who undergoes military experiments in an attempt to replicate Wolverine's mutant healing factor. He comes away with the ability to heal quickly, but for the price of being indestructible he is rendered severely scarred. His acerbic attitude remains, though, earning him the nickname "The Merc with a Mouth." Reynolds will next be seen starring as another superhero, Green Lantern, for Warner Bros.

Fox has the Matthew Vaughn-directed X-Men Origins: First Class coming out June 3. The Wolverine was expected to be the next one in production, but the studio and Hugh Jackman are looking for a new director after Darren Aronofsky fell out. That sequel's plan to shoot in the fall could be postponed.
Seriously? What about Rodriguez? Is Reynolds still in? I heard Warner Bros. wants to start GL2 soon. I have serious doubts about this.

I kind of wish the director was someone with experience that gave me more confidence, but every director has to start somewhere. Looking at Tim Miller's history, I would say he at least has good credits to his name. I'm glad there is at least some momentum actually going on. At Wondercon, Reynolds sounded like he was fully committed to the role, so I am still assuming he is in it until I read otherwise.

I hope they take the X-Men Origins out of the name at some point

I knew about Rodriguez not directing, but I still held out hope he would come to his senses, naive though I may be. I should have said someone 'like' Rodriguez.

As for Miller, I think this might be a bigger task than he can handle for his first time directing. Many other directors started out doing smaller things, like James Cameron working for Roger Corman. But those were smaller budget films, not huge blockbusters. Time will tell on this, but it seems to reinforce many fans reservations about Fox and their handling of the 'X' films.

I'm honestly not worried about this at all. He's worked on the X-Men films, DareDevil, and Scott Pilgrim. This isn't going to be a movie with a huge budget, because its going to be an R rated gamble for Fox. And with that being the case, it's great that someone whose never made a movie is getting a swing at it. I'd rather have someone whose worked on movies that were special effects heavy working on it, especially considering he has worked on the X-Men series before. Hopefully this all works out and we'll get a kickass Deadpool movie!

Why did they call it X-Men Origins: Deadpool - It'll have nothing to do with the X-Men franchise, they also called First Class X-Men Origins: First Class

They're doing it because its name brand. The X-Men name means money. They know it. So they're going to slap it on all their movies set in the universe.

If First Class sucks they won't, unless they reboot the franchise

First Class may suck, but it'll still make money. Look at X-Men 3.

Hey, people expect great things out of X3, the film sucked. People thought Wolverine was going to be good, it sucked. Now everyone is very wary of X-Men: First Class and are suspecting it's going to suck. If it flops they'll take that name away.

Also, including the bucterisation of Deadpool in Wolverine's film, why would anyone want to folk over any money to see the Deadpool from that film.
