The incessant Marvel vs. DC that people, for whatever reason, think means actors cannot be in movies from both publishers without them getting stuffed into a white van as they walk past an alley, blindfolded or their heads covered, driven to a deserted dock, and beaten out of one film's contract.

I take it more that he's attaching himself to possible franchises. Granted I don't think Deadpool would end up being multiple movies, but you never know. People might think if he gets involved with a JL franchise he won't have time to do anything else.

Just how people think just because Shailene Woodley is committed to the Divergent franchise she can't to TASM too.

i’ve said from the start that I’d love to see this movie get made……but w/some big name movies failing @ the box office this summer (after earth and I’m predicting the long ranger will too) I’m worried fox won’t be willing to take a chance on this movie even w/Reynolds in the title role.

I wish Miller and Reynolds would get a kickstarter campaign going for it and see if they can get some money raised to show fox that people want this movie made!!

I’m hoping a sequel to Dredd gets made so that Fox can see that there’s a market for hard R comic book movies!!

I think that is part of the problem. It is the combination of some really big movies not doing well and big movies with Ryan Reynolds not doing well (Green Lantern being the collision of the two). I think he does sell a fair amount of tickets, but not like some of the other big names out there. The problem is not that some big movies fail, it is that there are some really terrible movies that have budgets that are way too big. Studios look at ingredients and think the sum of good ingredients will always be good (Johnny Depp + Gore Verbinski + adaptation + $$$ = $$$$$$$$$).

I personally think a $50M-$80M budget on a DP movie would bring in a good profit. Hopefully Kick-Ass 2 will be successful and get Fox thinking about this one again. Though, I wonder if they just don't want it to get made.

Greenlighting a sequel to Dredd doesn't say anything about the market's interest in hard R-rated comic book movies...

why not??

it @ least shows R rated comic book properties have enough of a fan base to warrant being made.

if Dredd can get a sequel and Kick Ass 2 can do well.....that can only help a movie like Deadpool get made.

This was kind of my thoughts. If Kick-Ass can find funding, Deadpool should be able to as well. The first Kick-Ass was independent, so Fox would have to subcontract it in that case (can they even legally do that?), but you'd think Fox themselves would be more willing to go for it after the reasonable success of the first Kick-Ass despite being an independent production. I mean, if Kick-Ass can get a sequel, that shows people are willing to check out good violent R rated comic book movies even if they have relatively low budget.

Honestly, it should not matter. Chris Evans played Johnny Storm for Fox and Captain America for Disney. And the Green Lantern movies are dead in the water after the first one flopped so it's not even going to be a conflict of interest.

Chris Evans also played Lucas Lee for Scott Pilgrim (Oni Press), Jensen in The Losers (Vertigo, i.e., DC), and was the voice of Casey Jones for TMNT (Mirage).

Not to mention starring in the comic-book inspired Push (it even got a prequel comic tie-in from Wildstorm, another DC imprint).

I think Chris Evans likes comic books. Or at least comic book movies.

What's holding fox back is fox. They couldn't get a superhero movie out in any decent time frame to save their lives...

I enjoy hating on FOX as much as the next person but gotta give them props on the X-Men franchise... First Class was pretty good and Days of Future Past looks to be shaping up into something pretty great...

If fox plays it up that Deadpool is an x-men character…..i’d think that’ll get a descent amount of people out to see it.

Sort of like how Marvel advertises each film as being part of the MCU. I think showing it is related to X-Men could help. If nothing else, making it LOOK GOOD will help. One of the biggest troubles with Green Lantern (as far as getting hype) is that it looked like a big mess from the beginning. All of the trailers made the movie look like it wasn't very good.

In the brand-new issue 209 of Total Film magazine, we celebrate all things X-Men, so it’s fitting that we find time for a chat with Ryan Reynolds, who played Wolvie’s one-time nemesis, Deadpool.

Inside the issue (which is available for just £1.99 on your iPad), we chat with the R.I.P.D. star about the ongoing saga of the Deadpool spin-off movie, which has been mooted ever since he played Wade Wilson in X-Men: Origins - Wolverine. The film's had a script from Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and Tim Miller is attached to direct.

For now, here’s a snippet of what Reynolds had to say about the status of the Merc with a Mouth’s spin-off movie…

“That movie is alive and kicking, and then it’s dead as a doornail. Then it’s alive and kicking and then it’s dead… it’s like the worst relationship I’ve ever had!”

“The character knows he’s a comic-book character, he knows he’s in a film, he knows who the executives are at the studio making the movie,” Reynolds explained. “In the current iteration of the script, Deadpool is aware of the Wolverine movie. He doesn’t say anything disparaging about it but he does at one point play with the Deadpool action figure with some curiosity.”

R.I.P.D. opens in the UK on 20 September 2013, after opening in the US on 19 July 2013.

For much more from Reynolds on Deadpool, R.I.P.D. and comic-book movies, pick up issue 209 of Total Film magazine, which is out now

I may have to go pick this up this month.

I'm not holding my breath. After a disappointing game adaptation I'm cautiously optimistic.

Disappointing really? It feels just like I'm reading the books as I play the game. It's a little on the short side and the gameplay can become repetitive but every staple of Deadpool is thrown in that game. High Moon did a great job of bringing the character off of the pages of the comics.
