Yes how strange that they would want the first Rated R comic book film since Watchmen to have a good box office take.

It makes sense. From their point of view, due to the rating, they will lose out on the sweet spot of the under 18 crowd. That is why a lot of movies are dumb down to a lower rating to get more butts in the seats.

Since they can't dumb down Deadpool without ruining the tone and character, they have to find a way to get people to see the movie. So that is why it is heavily marketed to get people to see the movie.

I mean it is working wonderfully as people are talking about it, the hype is there and it is going to do well. Now I am not sure if this is because the marketing, the character or a comic book movie but a combination of all three has helped push the movie to a must see.

There have been some: Kick-Ass, Kick-Ass 2, Dredd, Kingsman. Maybe there were more, I'm not sure.

(I am looking forward to seeing it, but my expectations are in check)

dredd while that was good i dont think it was done by fox and it was marketed poorly, hence really poor box office, such a shame because the dredd trilogy would've been seriously badass with cursed earth 2nd part and the 3rd part with dark judges.

the point im making, that's FOX...they dont normally tend to ever market the crap out of R rated movies.

The marketing team is knocking this one out of the park - it's amazing to think that it's the same company that had to deal with Trank's FF4!

Im not usually a movie poster guy but these posters/banners are the first time I would love to own them all and hang them all up!

I wonder how much say Ryan Reynolds is getting with all the marketing since he is one of the producers. Is it possible that DC or Marvel should actually listen to him when it comes to adapting comic books into films? He may not just be a big fan of Deadpool (especially since he's already played Green Lantern and Hannibal King) - should Ryan Reynolds be the next comic book movie consultant in the same way Kevin Smith used to be?

Just like he's getting another chance to play Deadpool again and erase the previous mistake, he should get a chance to play Hal Jordan again, especially useful if DC can ride his renewed popularity/most-likely success of Marvel's Deadpool.

Well it's working out, it's tracking well over $60 mill opening weekend (which is Valentine's Day weekend). But perhaps you should concern yourself less with the marketing and instead just the quality of the film.

Begone with you!

Deadpool is also going to probably be the most popular R-rated film in which a high percentage of kids and teenagers will plead with their parents to take them (or sneak in) to see the film.

If a kid watches the green-band trailer or tv spots, how in the hell could they not want to see this film? Especially when the character Deadpool sounds and looks like Spiderman with weapons? And with a well-known X-men character Collosus?

I bet there will be a higher than usual percentage of movie theater ticket vendors turning down kids who want to see Deadpool.

Since Kick-Ass and Super, this is the first superhero / comic book film I am actually looking forward to watching. I never read a Deadpool comic or played the video game but just going by the Red Band trailer and the insane yet brilliant marketing alone, it has gotten me pretty damn excited. I doubt I will watch it in the theater, but it will definitely be a day one Blu-ray purchase.

Thank the omnipotent, chubby Baby Jesus for the R rating.

Kinda reminds me of the Ant-Man posters where he's in Scarlett Johansson's "girls".

I dunno. Does it matter? Maybe she called herself that? By her looks and attitude... seems like she's a bit on the rebel side.

I don't care for the name at all but don't mind it either.

I have a question:

What is the studio's box office projection for this one? I mean, what's the "ideal" gross to consider this a hit?

it's tracking that amount for opening weekend.

i'd say if it hits $150 million they'd consider that a success.
