I hope it's R, but I could see it being a hard PG-13 as well. I just hope he gets the job, I think it would be awesome. He's' a great choice for director

If it's true to the character, it won't be PG-13.

Agreed. But if it's Fox, I can almost guarantee PG-13 like Live Free or Die Hard

They don't seem about keeping to character as much as what will make more money...

So is the Deadpool comic book written as an R rated book?

As far as I know he's not a part of Marvel's Epic line. I have his first appearance and his first mini series and they weren't written in an R fashion.

I don't understand this love affair with the R Rating. Isn't it all about the story and execution?

Anyone who thinks this will be R rated is up in the night.

It doesn't need to be an hard R rating but if they follow the theme TDK had I'll be happy, I don't want Deadpool to wind up like Punisher: War Zone with heads and **** exploding, focus more on character development and less on the violence.

I think Rodriguez would be a good pick, and I'm guarunteeing this will be pg-13. They can't market toys, tshirts and lunch boxes off rated R movies. It won't be a bad thing necessarily, as many have said, plenty of pg-13 movies are great. This isn't Terminator Salvation or Live Free or Die Hard where they are breaking a series R rated tradition. Deadpool just needs to crack wise, and break the fourth wall, and all will be good.

Also, if anyone really hates Rodriguez's kid stuff, you should check out Shorts, it is so ridiculous it's pretty funny, I saw it on TV about a month ago, saw it was directed by him. I haven't seen any of the Spy Kids movies, but Shorts is just about the most outrageously awesome thing a kid could watch IMO.

You can get away with a good bit in a PG-13 movie if you know what you are doing...just don't show blood and guts flying out of the people or have him dropping f-bombs.

Can't say for Robocop but Rambo had a PG cartoon that helped sell all the merchandise. Never read a Deadpool comic so I can't say if it should be pg-13 or not.

True. I forgot about the cartoon. But I do know the Robocop toys were made and sold for the movie.

Deadpool can be PG-13 even with the dimemberments, since they are done in a comedic fashion.

Haha, I forgot about that. Does it make a difference to the rating if it is done in a comedic fashion? I think they can make a really good Deadpool movie with PG-13. I do think they could make a better movie if it was R. I think I mentioned it before: The Dark Knight got away with a lot because a lot of the violence and brutality was implied or off-screen. Implying it or having it just off-screen makes it powerful IMO by showing the reactions of the people around (Gambol comes to mind). If the violence and mayhem is over the top and shown like in that clip, it can be funnier.

I am not too upset by the idea of a PG-13 DP movie because it is a thousand times better than no DP movie at all.

I think it would be fine PG-13, but I think an R rating where he's cracking jokes and we get some kinda over the top ridiculous blood shed on the top of the storyline could be fun. I'm not adverse to either or. I honestly just want a good Deadpool movie. That's it

Just to settle the point of the source material, what I have in my collection ranges from "T+" to "Parental Advisory".
Here are some examples of what I found just flipping through what I have:

Example 1
Example 2
Example 3

If nothing else, these should make it R ...
Costume 1
Costume 2

Most of the bloody violence has been post Cable&Deadpool. There actually was not much in that series, so it can be done. The material is not completely full of blood spurting out of people. I just don't want them to be limited. I do not want them to have to cut out anything for a rating.

Thanks for showing those.

Deadpool uses guns and a sword, A FREAKING SWORD! He used one in X-Men Origins as well, and when he cut people in the chest, they fell over.

They don't have to go over the top with heads flying everywhere, but it would go along with the source material because Deadpool books are pretty crazy at time. I would love to see a few heads go flying through the air after Deadpool slices them off.

Any example of brutality with Deadpool could probably be matched with MANY other comic characters, even ones which might be considered wholly good. Strictly speaking, Wolverine done "right" should have been R rated too. But it wasn't, and the PG13 worked just fine for Wolverine most of the time, but especially in X2.

Wolverine Origins also showed a good understanding of the character of Deadpool while maintaining a PG13... at least at first. But it did it without an R rating. I don't need to see Tarantino-esque blood fountains. I would be totally OK with blood-less carnage so long as they nail the writing and performance. Some Deadpool fans might get off on the bloody violence, but I don't care. That's not important to me.

I certainly wouldn't mind it, but I think best we might expect is something like Live Free or Die Hard. A good PG13 released on home video as unrated with additional bloody violence and cursing. Maybe not cursing though. Deadpool doesn't need to talk like a sailor.

Are we talking about the bit before we see his mouth sown up and has laser vision and teleportations skills. If so then yeah, to a certain extent.

Notice where I said "at least at first". Wade Wilson's appearance early on is basically unanimously loved by all. It is basically universally considered good, even by people who hate the movie and what it LATER did with the character when he reappeared as... the merc with
[Show spoiler]out
a mouth.

I'm annoyed to all hell with "Weapon XI" ("dudepeel" lmao), but Ryan Reynolds nailed it early on and the writing of the character wasn't bad either... at first.

I agree with you, Afro. I thought Reynolds was great as Wade Wilson in the beginning of the movie. He had the character down. Everything from the little quips of humor to Wade's attitude was perfectly done by Reynolds. It wasn't until they botched the character with Weapon XI towards the end of the movie that I was so annoyed. But I give the film credit for giving us a very real, credible Wade Wilson at the beginning of the movie. Reynolds owns that role

The only thing about that is I thought the bloodiness of Die Hard made it a little more grounded and felt more dangerous than Life Free. One image that comes to mind whenever I think of Die Hard is
[Show spoiler]when John McClane gets shot in the shoulder and his blood paints the door he just ran through.
I am not saying we need an R rating. I just think it will not limit them. Life Free is my second favorite Die Hard film; think I would like it more if it had an R rating.

I am glad you and PJ liked Wade in XO: Wolverine. I thought his pre-surgery scenes were great. If you watch the behind-the-scenes, you'll find that nearly everything that Ryan Reynolds did was his own writing; there was almost nothing in the script for his character. Just shows how right RR is for DP.
