I like most comic book films at least a little, takes quite a bit for me to hate one. I love both Kick-Ass films and Kingsmen was a blast but I expect to enjoy this. Everything about it suggests it was tailor-made for someone like me.

jvince's review is well articulated and he explained his reasons for not liking the movie, and it just goes to show how divisive movies can be. With Deadpool, I think most people will either love it or hate it, as mentioned. Middle ground -- thinking it was "just okay" -- is probably going to be rare. I think you're either on board all the way or not at all, and it's fine.

Deadpool is kind of hard to give a general recommendation, because a lot of people will be turned off by the outrageous violence/humor/raunchiness and those same reasons are why other people will embrace it wholeheartedly, so you have to take people's personal tastes into account.

Generally speaking, I feel if you've liked the trailers, the viral videos, the posters, etc, you'll most likely enjoy the movie, because the movie is all of those things cranked up to 11.

The only thing I would contest in jvince's review is that he called the movie a "romcom," which isn't a descriptor I would use. The Wade/Vanessa relationship is just there to ground an otherwise almost un-relatable character. Vanessa is, more than anything, used as motivation for Wade to drive the revenge plot. (That's not a spoiler -- all the trailers show that she gets kidnapped by the villain and Deadpool sets out to get her back).

Vanessa is a small part of the movie, and only one segment (maybe 10 minutes total) of the film is dedicated to giving depth to their relationship to get you invested for Wade to want to get her back. He is, after all, a pretty cold guy, so for him to fall in love and want to go after dangerous people to get his girl back is a major thing for him.

Again, totally respect jvince's review. He didn't like it, didn't find it funny, that's fair and fine. My only point of contention is calling it a "romcom," because the romance doesn't get as much emphasis as, say, any of the Spider-Man movies. Vanessa is gone most of the movie and when she's on screen, she's not the focus, so I wouldn't go so far as to refer it to a romcom.

Deadpool worked for me, it didn't work for jvince. I don't think a lot of people will be in the middle of the road with this movie, but I think mostly everyone looking forward to the movie should walk away happy with what they saw.

I love Kick-Ass and Kingsman, and I felt Deadpool was better than both.

I should mention I'm not a huge Deadpool fan with an encyclopedic knowledge of the character. I've read only a handful of Deadpool's comics, with most of my experience of him coming from his appearances in other titles such as Spider-Man or X-Men. I do know enough about him to know that his X-Men Origins: Wolverine appearance was an abomination and that this film gets his character correct. He's the whacky, joke cracking, fourth wall breaking nutball he's generally depicted to be in the comics.

Kick-Ass and Kingsman were both made by Vaughn, so Deadpool isn't as slick as those two. Which I didn't expect it to be, since Tim Miller isn't as experienced as Vaughn. Kingsman has the best action of the three movies, but Deadpool was the funniest of the three. I did feel that Deadpool is maybe as close to a Matthew Vaughn movie as you can get without actually having Vaughn as the director.

Batman1980, you'll probably enjoy Deadpool. toddly, I look forward to hearing what you thought. Low expectations definitely never hurts. I expected Deadpool to be good, but I did have doubts about the rave reviews it was getting. By the time I left the theater I felt the hype and the super positive reviews were earned, as I ended up liking it even more than I thought it would. I thought it was going to be good, and for me, it ended up being amazing.

You'd be surprised. I've seen people swear off of seeing a film in theatres for far less than a well articulated negative review.

Personally, I don't listen to anyone's opinion regarding film anymore. Too many times in my teens I avoided films based on other people's reviews (online, friends, family) only to discover years later that those films were quite enjoyable... some even AMAZING! So, the only opinion that I now rely on is my own.

If I want to see a film based on the marketing, I'll see it and be my own judge. If I don't like it, well... I'm a grown man. I can handle the consequences of my decision.

Do those of you who have seen it, recommend seeing it in s larger format, like IMAX?

Good point.

I'm going in to see Deadpool with the expectation that the trailer's action looks entertaining, the super hero theme and costumes look cool, and I hope there are a few great action scenes. The comedy bits in the trailers had me laughing a few times, though I remember some of the jokes from Blade Trinity with Ryan Reynolds as Hannibal King, so I know what to mostly expect in that aspect, with lots of crude humor.

I liked Kick-Ass, Wolverine X-Men Origins (also with Reynolds), so if it has hints of those, good enough.

I agree. That plus the nature of the movie I do not see this doing awesome in theaters. It will be a success, but i think it will be more of a niche movie, than one that is accepted main stream.

Just 3 questions for those who watched the movie in advance.

1- Why did they pick Wade Wilson for the procedure? Is he special in some way?
2- What's the procedure? What are his powers?
3- What about the X-Men? Are they mentioned?

[Show spoiler]1. Wade is sick. They tell him they can cure him. He's chosen because he has nothing to lose.

2. It's a series of torture to unlock his mutant genes, to see what kind of powers he has. That's all they do. They don't know what he is, but they want to try and unlock his genes, so they can sell him as a hit man to higher powers.

3. Yes. The most obvious fact is that Colossus is in the film. But he's trying to convince Deadpool to join the team. At one point he's trying to take Pool to see Xavier, and DP quips, "McAvoy or Stewart? These timeline are so confusing." We also see the X Mansion.
