Right. I don't see this becoming a franchise anyhow. It won't make a bazillion dollars so 20th Century will try and reboot with younger actors from Twilight
But we should at least get one properly done Deadpool movie.

And why couldn't be a great PG13 franchise? Batman is.

Not sure if this was already posted but Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool could be coming into question as they might film Green Lantern 2 and 3 back to back even taking more of his time and could possibly take him away from Deadpool.

hopefully he's into this character enough to find the time.

it's not a huge character like spide man or green lantern, hopefully the filming wouldn't take as long.

Hmm. Ryan Reynolds seems to really want this movie to be made, so I would assume he is keeping that in mind. Hopefully he will be able to fit Deadpool in somewhere.

The Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Alien, The Matrix...
Would they still be great movies at PG-13? Possibly. Probably on a few of them. Here is my point: The R rating is not necessarily necessary for it to be a great movie, but what if Paramount told Coppola he had to make The Godfather PG-13 in order to reach wider audiences? I am not saying Deadpool is going to be one of the great cinema masterpieces. I just do not want the movie to be limited in any capacity. Maybe they can make the best possibly Deadpool movie at PG-13. I don't know The source material definitely gives rise to the possibility of the film adaptation having an R rating.

I guess I'm saying it's FOX. The movie has a 99% chance it's going to be a terrible adaptation. Take what FOX studio head said about Wolverine:

Quote:
On The Negative Reactions To X-Men Origins: Wolverine:

Jim Gianopulos: "We're proud of the film and we're proud of Hugh Jackman's work in the film. I think one of the things that has always been a balancing act in the X-Men universe is we have this wonderful base of fans that are deeply immersed in the heritage of these characters, and then we have the civilians. And you have to make the property accessible to people who haven't experienced it. So you need to make certain adaptations, creatively, in order to open up the property a little bit. And that's where I think the fans feel that we missed a turn some place."
What FOX doesn't realize is that if they make a movie faithful to the source material it'll appeal to enough people to make it a success.

I really wish I could argue against that, but their history with Marvel's property supports your statement. It will most likely be PG-13. I am just hoping they realize the Deadpool movie won't create room for spin-offs or reboot/prequels and they just leave it be. I think I am giving them a little too much credit. They'll probably force the writers and director to give up half of the movie in order to advertise other possible movies.

The highest grossing film based on a comic is The Dark Knight.

Tons of "unfaithful"-ness to the source material. But fans got behind it because it was GOOD. Fans even dealt with the huge changes in X-men. Only in the third one and the Wolverine origins film did fans turn on them. And why was that? Because stuff was bad, and it was bad because it was changed.

There is room for change. Absolutely. But it has to be be REASONABLE and GOOD. For example, making Spider-man have organic webbing is OK. Giving Spider-man an unbreakable skeleton or the ability to shoot lasers out of his eyes is not.

Basically, if they want to make Wade Wilson a mutant, I think fans would be OK with that. They could probably even live with him not being disfigured, so long as he wears a proper costume. What they can't deal with is his mouth being sealed for NO REASON AT ALL or him getting ridiculous additional mutations and body modifications. If you're going to totally mutilate a character that way, it has to be one that isn't a fan-favorite, and one that will be ENHANCED by changes rather than DESTROYED. I still say Omega Red having all of those Weapon XI powers would have been AWESOME. Why couldn't they write Omega Red in as an enemy (or even member) of Team X at the beginning, then have it be him at the end. Terrible. Truly terrible.

And these are the changes FOX makes for the 'civilians'

Obviously your right (you need to understand 'Faithful' Vs literally exactly the same I guess), but we are talking about the current FOX here. When they turn it around, I'll jump back on the band wagon. Until then...

"Deadpool" Movie May Never Happen

Quote:
The "Deadpool" movie seems to be in good shape, since "Zombieland" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are hard at work on the script, Ryan Reynolds is attached to star and director Robert Rodriguez is pretty much signed to direct.

But now its starting to look like the film will never happen. "Deadpool" creator Robert Liefeld wrote on his Twitter account: "Warner Bros just trying to protect their investment. They don't want Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool AND Green Lantern."

This doesn't come as a surprise. Warners just recently hired "Harry Potter" writer Michael Goldenberg to pen the script for the "Green Lantern" sequel with plans to go into production before the first film is even released. If box office results meet expectations, the third installment will immediately be greenlit. And then there's the "Justice League of America" movie.

The goal is to keep 20th Century Fox from grabbing Reynolds to make "Deadpool," which means that fans may never see Merc-With-a-Mouth on the big screen again, unless the studio decides to recast.

When it gets down to it, I don't think Fox would mind recasting if they thing they can still squeak some money out of it.

Personally...if It has to be one or the other, I without a doubt want him to continue playing Green Lantern.

Unless I see the movie and he/it sucks

I'd prefer it be worked out and both roles are still played though.

Why? I doubt Deadpool is going to be a huge blockbuster and I doubt it would compete against Green Lantern. The JLA movie will not happen for a long time. IF the Green Lantern sequels happen right away, I can see Deadpool holding off to shoot for a bit.

I think Ryan Reynolds will try his best to make it work. Then again, I thought the fan in my sig would make sure he reprise his role.

Screw that. How long does it really take to do principle photography? WB can't keep Reynolds permanently tied up such that he wouldn't be able to escape and do Deadpool.

Even if they go right into Green Lantern 2 and Green Lantern 3 back to back before waiting to see how the first film does (dumb!), what about after that? That's less than a year's production time. What's to stop Reynolds from doing Deadpool after that? Justice League won't be close to ready to enter production at that point, and if they rush Justice League to market just to tie up Reynolds for a few more months, all they'll get is a TERRIBLE Justice League movie and a Deadpool film that'll take a few months to a year longer to release to market.

That article looks like the creator of the comic is ignorant to the film industry and made assumptions and blogs ran with it. He realizes that WB is looking to fasttrack production of a potential lucrative film series, and then decides that WB has ulterior motives of wanting to permanently tie up a movie star? Do you really think Green Lantern and Deadpool are the only things on Mr. Reynolds plate? According to IMDB, he's got 7 active projects over the next 2 years, not counting Green Lantern sequels or potential appearances in other X-mutant films over at Fox. I'm pretty sure the guy will work Deadpool in somewhere.

Really, though, Green Lantern isn't even competition for Deadpool. Green Lantern is a squeaky clean superhero. Deadpool is an insane assassin. The fact that both characters come from comic books is largely irrelevant. I'm honestly really getting tired of people bunching Deadpool in as a "superhero movie". If Fox makes it a superhero movie, I'm gonna be really mad.

For you Afrobeam

Quote:
Given the two roles — polar opposite though they may be — one could make the assumption that Reynolds is getting a little bit greedy when it comes to the superhero genre. But when MTV News pointed out that notion to the actor at last week’s Comic-Con in San Diego, Reynolds was quick to get on the defensive.
“First off, Deadpool is not a superhero and he would stab you in the thorax if he heard you say that,” Reynolds said, adding with a laugh, “I don’t think I’ve ever said anything geekier than that in my entire life.”
Reynolds’ second line of defense was a bit more practical. “I’ve only played Deadpool for four and a half minutes thus far,” he said, acknowledging that the character’s spin-off movie is currently in the planning stage. “When we’re talking down the line and we’re talking about the ‘Deadpool’ movie, at that point you can call me a greedy bastard.”
Source

There really is no reason that he can't still film a Deadpool movie. Many actors do several films a year.
