Has there ever been this much controversy of an R-rated movie being banned in this many countries before? Surely, there must be more appropriate movies that deserve to be banned than one such as this.

Box Office: Ryan Reynolds' 'Deadpool' on Fire Friday for $90M-Plus Debut !

Friday's haul includes $12.7 million in Thursday night previews, the biggest ever for an R-rated film and the biggest of all time for the month of February. Fox made the movie per its licensing deal with Marvel Enterprises for the X-Men universe of characters.

Seeing this tonight at 10:40!

Oh boy I'm sure it will be packed, but I do hope the audience is respectful and only laughs at the right times. My local Regal is good though. I have had really good audiences for just about every movie I've seen recently. I cannot think of a bad experience.

Holy crap, a $100M opening would virtually pay for the movie right there! Amazing news if it pans out, I never thought the movie would do those sorts of numbers.

Saw this first show today. 10:30 am show in IMAX, the theater's highest capacity screen, and it was almost full. And this on a weekday when people are still at work and school. Awesome.

As for the movie, I absolutely loved it. The role Ryan Reynolds was born to play, and no one else could have played. Seeing it again tomorrow.

Not really though. Studios only get a somewhat small percentage of the money made in foreign countries. That's why Domestic gross is far more important when comparing it to a film's budget.

China only recently started warming up to showing American films over there. In short, numerous American films have done perfectly fine without silly China and their ridiculous restrictions.

The ban in China - the biggest market to miss out on - was already reported a while back. Didn't stop Fox from greenlighting a sequel (that will also likely be banned in China).

The only 2 seats left for the whole night, and we got them at 5:25pm. All screens sold out. Was not expecting it to be sold out.

Showing on 4 screens out of the 20 at my theater.

Yes, because rating something 4/5 disqualifies it from being awesome. I don't just throw 5's at everything. Mad Max: Fury Road is 5 stars awesome, GotG is 5 stars awesome. Deadpool doesn't quite reach that level but is certainly still awesome. Gotta remember that i have to spell this out for some.

Agreed! This is a huge weekend. I did not think it would do this well opening weekend.

I am not familiar with Reynolds, so this may be an easy question, but is this his biggest opening weekend?
