There are some extremely sexual scenes... one involving a strap on. I think a 16 year old could handle it just fine especially considering teenagers these days.

My nearly-10-years-in-the-making Review:
Quote:
If ever there were a film I felt obligated to write a review for, it would be Deadpool, given my near decade of adulation. If you have the patience, allow me to bore you with my personal history with him, before I flash forward to the current events. I discovered the character when I was in high school. I was playing Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and unlocked this zany, chatter-boxed, Spider-Man lookalike. I was enamoured with the character almost immediately. I got a chuckle out of him saying, "And now I'm better at doing whatever it is Wolverine does," every time he leveled up. That lead to reading the comics. Over the years, I read whatever I stumbled across in the comic book shop, from Joe Kelly, to Daniel Way, and my favorite of the lot, Fabian Nicieza.

Of all the Deadpool runs, Cable & Deadpool has always been my favorite, so it makes me very happy to hear Deadpool himself announce that the sequel will feature Cable. If there's one undeniable thing this movie has going for it, it's that this is one of the rare movies that not only accurately depicts the source material, but feels more like an extension of it, than a simple adaptation. This is not a Deadpool adaptation. It's a conversation between Deadpool and his audience. The fourth wall breakage was wonderfully handled, when it could have easily come across as a gimmick that takes you out of the story. Deadpool's sense of humor could also have been so overbearing that it became grating, and while it has had that effect on some, much of it worked for me. Not all of the jokes landed, but enough of them did.

Tim Miller's background in animation and special effects gave him the tools to, not only handle what can essentially be a Looney Tunes character that murders people, depending on who's writing him, but also to manage a budget so low that the film would look and feel cheap if it overshot its mark. People have leveled the 'too straightforward' criticism against the film, and I say, Fox could have told them to **** off when they fought to get an R-rated fourth wall breaking X-Men character on the big screen. They didn't do that, thanks to our response to the "leaked" Comic Con footage. Instead, they said, "Okay, we'll make the movie, but it has to be for a cost that will allow for us to see a return on our investment, if it doesn't perform exponentially, because we're cutting off a significant portion of the moviegoing public." I commend them for taking that chance on the character, and hope it does well enough to secure a franchise.

The success of the film has a lot to do with the writers ("the real heroes of this story") and Miller, but it was also going to live or die on Ryan Reynolds' shoulders. By now I'm tired of reading and hearing that Reynolds was born to play this character in every single review, so I'll avoid that by sneaking it into the first half of this sentence under the guise of disdain. He truly nails the role of both sentimental Wade Wilson and psychotic Deadpool. He and T.J. Miller, and even Morena Baccarin have a tangible rapport. I loved watching the characters play off of one another. I even liked the villains, for all their simplicity. Ed Skrein and Gina Carano seemed like they were having fun twirling their mustaches (figuratively, of course, Gina). Deadpool's interactions with them were some of my favorite parts of the film, both before and after mutation.

The simple revenge plot seemed off putting to me at first, but some of the best films ever made have simple plots. What the writers and actors do within those plots determine if the film will have staying power, or not. Is Rocky not a simple underdog story? How straightforward would Star Wars be without Empire and Jedi? Depth, or the lackthereof, does not always equate to a quality film. Deadpool has charm in its earnest love story. The origin and revenge subplots are all in service of that love story, and it is all brought to gleefully irreverent life by a stellar cast and dedicated production team. This is a film I don't even have to say I'll own, and watch again and again, for many years to come. Perhaps I would give it a 4.25, if I could, but I can't, so there you have it.
4.5/5

Caught an afternoon showing of this film and it was honestly so much fun. Fox really stepped their game up with this passion project of Reynolds. The action scenes alone were better than any of the X-men films and when the jokes hit they really hit. They took some seriously personal shots at themselves which was hilarious. They were really likable and a joy to watch when on screen. I really liked this version of Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. As an origin story, this movie has some of the best structure I've ever seen. Its very faced paced and the love story was actually very good. Anyone taking their loved one to see this on Valentines Day should enjoy this very much. My only negative is that with a movie with this much jokes, obviously some will fall flat but 4.5/5 aka 9/10.

I'm curious about it in an Atmos experience, but no theaters in my vicinity have been upgraded. I don't think I'm making the 2.5 hour trip (one way) to Columbus to see it a second time...I liked it, but I didn't fall in love with it.
We have a newly built theater with Atmos, but since I've only gone to your run-of-the-mill theaters, I don't have anything to compare it to. I will say the sound and picture quality were really great. With 71 ft. screens, I will sit a few rows farther back next time.

It wasn't that funny from my view because it was ruined for me in the batch of leaked superhero trailers from comic con.

One thing I thought was very cool was the
[Show spoiler]classic yellow and black New Mutants uniform Negasonic Teenage Warhead had on once her other clothes burned off. Very cool. Makes me wanna see a New Mutants movie.

Apparently this news and pics have been around for a while, but somehow I missed it so it was a pleasant surprise to me.
Spoiler hid it just in case.

The trailers before sure were dissapointing. I expected blockbuster trailers like BVS, X-Men, Independence Day. Instead they were dumb comedies.
