He also appeared in a couple of Spider-Man's stuff from the cartoons and Shattered Dimensions video game.

Not trying to hide anything. You didn't mention media exposure, simply exposure. I disagree about his lack of exposure. Deadpool has become quite popular since his creation outside of the "comic crowd" through various things such as enormously popular cosplays, iconic imagery used on merchandise, and well known "chimichanga" references on shirts and internet memes.

That's what was so stupid on Fox's part. Even after they saw the test footage they still shelved it until it was leaked.

After it leaked all the hits and likes from fans across the internet finally lit a fire under Fox's ass. Show's the mindset of that studio when they don't even realize what they have the rights to. As you said about cosplay, just look at all comic conventions around the country (not just SDCC) and you'll see nuuumerous fans dressed up as Deadpool. I'm not the least bit surprised his movie did so well on it's opening weekend.

Children being "sheltered" is only bad when done in the extreme. Parents have a responsibility to protect their kids, not let them follow their every whim. As the kids grow up, the amount of protection can lessen, but the key is about balance. No child should be exposed to graphic sexuality at all; their minds are simply too vulnerable. I keep hearing about parents who take their preteens to R-rated films, then complain when they start mimicking everything. My response is usually along the lines of, "What did you expect?" I keep telling folks, "Children are like sponges; they absorb everything with zero filter. Its your job as their parents, to keep the worst from them and encourage the best."

I agree. At the same time, and this is just a big "what if," I wonder had the movie been made earlier, would we have received the same film?

I'm not surprised it did well, but I did not see it doing this well.

Full disclosure, this film fell a bit flat for me, but I'm certainly happy fans, and movie going audiences in general it seems, got a film they liked. I think this film will open a lot of doors and possibilities to other R-rated super-hero films. The idea of super hero fatigue some are experiencing takes on a new perspective when the possibility of multiple R-rated films is introduced imo.

Granted I recognize past films that were more "mature" but I get the feeling Deadpool will have a much bigger influence considering it's the marvel brand (not mcu).

Disney and wb might see this and think, "Hm, maybe we can make $$$ doing a new punisher or make the next suicide squad hard R."

That's really ignorant for you to think that.

Whatever influence a child has can only go as far as what a parent has led the child to interpret by themselves.

It's the parent's failure to not moderate the child. And even educated themselves on what their child does and realize what responses the exposure has.

Again... I've seen some horrible crazy and adult stuff growing up. With my parents there to educate me and understand what the material was. And I grew up fine. Different times and culture, I was born in 1986 and my parents were Mexican. BUT.. they had crap education compared to the regular American standard.. yet somehow... they were very well knowledged in how I was to understand any material coming to our home and that I knew what it was.

Again... I saw rape, graphic violence and gore, nudity, consensual sex, etc in movies growing up. And I was totally ok w/ it because my parents were very focused on how I developed w/ anything. Understanding what the material was and how I may interpret it. Also educating me on social attitudes and standards in the real world.

A child is a sponge. It takes everything in if you let it to drown in the water. How it reacts is up to your develop w/ it.

Kids and etc can understand violence, sex, and etc pretty early on. Just all depends on how you mold that kid.

In my opinion, any child being even remotely "okay" with extreme language, gore, or graphic sexuality is not a good thing. I was born in '80, and didn't see my first R-rated film until age 13; it was "My Cousin Vinny" on VHS. Later, I became addicted to "slasher" movies, having to swear them off completely because my thoughts and emotions became affected. Just because a kid wants to see something, it doesn't mean they should...and its the parents' job to make sure of that. After ditching horror, I have very few R-rated films in my collection. That's not said to be pompous, but simply because I know how dangerous things are for impressionable minds.

This movie was so well done that many of the recent MCU efforts can't help but feel a bit flat. Unequivocally unique, risky in a sense, and perfectly executed, I walked out of the theater HIGHLY impressed. The perfect medicine to any possible superhero fatigue for the average movie-goer. Fantastically written, fantastically directed, and PERFECTLY cast. I would say this definitely moves into my top 5 "superhero" films of all time.

1) Superman: The Movie
2) Guardians of the Galaxy
2) X-Men: Days of Future Past (Rogue Cut preferred)
4) Deadpool
5) Spiderman

Okay, but that says far more about you than it does the material you watched.

There is zero evidence that watching violent movies or playing violent games makes a person violent. None. Any disturbing thoughts or emotions you had came from your own mind. You don't get to blame works of fiction for the things you think and do.

"Impressionable minds" like your own, you mean. Thankfully, not everyone has the same simplistic view of the world that you do.
