Yeah, if GL launches Reynolds into the super-stardom like Ford was at the time, it people would be to the point to going to the movies to see him, not just the character he's playing

It’s very different. It’s like Harrison Ford doing Star Wars and Indiana Jones. DC and Marvel are different universes with different movies. …the more popular and well known he is the better.
Exactly

You could be right about that. At this point, a lot of people kind of know who he is or have at least seen one movie with him. Taking on a lead role in a blockbuster (franchise no less), could bring an attraction to the actor. Hopefully it will bring audiences to Deadpool to make it successful to give us sequels!

Could Ryan Reynolds Be Replaced in "Deadpool"?

Quote:
TotalFilm caught up with Ryan Reynolds two weeks after Comic-Con to ask about the rumored "Deadpool" movie, and how it will be connected to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

"The two movies have absolutely no connection at all, that's how," he said. This news means that 20th Century Fox could replace Reynolds if the actor decides not to reprise his role. And that's exactly what's being rumored now. Even though he is signing on for many non-superhero movies, Warner Bros apparently wants Reynolds to pass on "Deadpool" to focus on "Green Lantern 2."

At this point Fox is in talks with Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) to direct "Deadpool," but the helmer has a very busy schedule and has only a small window next year to make this happen. Meanwhile, Reynolds has about six projects in pre-production, making it difficult for him to be available at the same time as Rodriguez.

For now, Reynolds is happy to announce that the script for "Deadpool" has everything that will make fans happy. "The fourth wall is broken many times in the movie," he said. "I can't emphasize enough how closely the tone of the comic is being followed. But its a nasty piece of work and that's what's important."

Reynolds continued: "The script is going to be a little harder than the comic. If you were going to assign a rating, the comics would be PG-13, the script right now is walking a tightrope between that and an R-rating."

Same stuff that we've been discussing w/a few details about the actual script.

I'm cool with Renolds helping to write the script for Deadpool, and not starring in it. He seemed to be VERY passionate about the character, and having him take the time to make the script AWESOME, to me, would be better than rushing the movie just to make sure Renolds could star in it.

Not even rumored though, one person's speculation. I do not see this happening without Ryan Reynolds. Not that it can't happen. I just think he will be sure to make room in his schedule for it.

Nice couple details about the script though. I am just so happy with RR's involvement and enthusiasm for the movie and character

I honestly don't see anyone else being Deadpool. Reynolds gets the character. He should be playing it. Green Lantern and Deadpool are completely different characters, so WB needst to suck it up and let him do it

That was brought up, but an Edgar Wright Deadpool movie would seem amazing, with all the pop culture and 4th wall breaking involved, with Edgar Wright just getting how Comic Books and movies work!

Edgar Wright certainly knows how to do bloody violence and comedy and violent bloody comedy. I would be all for him doing it, but he probably is too busy and I really would like to see his Ant-Man movie.

I'd be kind of afraid to let him near a comedic comic property. I loved what he did with Scott Pilgrim, but I really don't want to see a Deadpool film handled that way. I don't Deadpool to beat us over the head with comic book concepts, because with the lack of the 4th wall, he'd be aware that he's in a MOVIE, not a comic book. I want to see Deadpool give us a deconstruction on FILM, not comics, although it would be nice to have a few nods made to his source material.

I have not seen Scott Pilgrim, but I would not want him to handle it like that. I am more thinking of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Those were pretty violent and hilarious at the same time. He was a writer on the three aforementioned films; I wouldn't imagine he would write too much since that is being handled.

I agree that Deadpool should make more 4th wall notes regarding being in a film, but mention of the comic origins would be welcome.

Yeah, I know what you mean, especially regarding Hot Fuzz, but some people's inclination when considering a comic book adaptation is to attempt to turn the comic book into live action. This is what Ang Lee tried for Hulk. Bad. This is what was done with Scott Pilgrim. Good. Anything Frank Miller worked on. Whatever. But I don't think it would work with Deadpool and I would just want to be sure that the director's vision doesn't aim for a cheesy kind of "hey look it's a comic book only not really" aesthetic. I want it to be a MOVIE, not a live action comic book.

I am with you 100%. It should definitely have the distinct feel of a film.
I am currently thinking about how cool a slow motion segment would be like in V for Vendetta
[Show spoiler]the subway scene

Something like in the Ultimate Alliance trailer @ :26

Exactly , but I'll support it no matter what happens because I think the character deserves some attention and if a crappy movie that makes double its budget helps to get more and hopefully better versions I'm all for it

Default Deadpool's Nasty Burger

Deadpool's Nasty Burger

Quote:
How many superheroes can one guy play in a lifetime? A lot, a whole lot, if Ryan Reynolds has anything to say about it. He's already done Deadpool and the Marvel vampire hunter Hannibal King, he's got Green Lantern under his belt, he's campaigned in the past for the Flash, and now he continues to talk up Deadpool's getting his own standalone film.

Hero Complex spoke to Reynolds about the project, which is reportedly still in the works despite the actor's very busy GL schedule.

"It goes in such a different direction than a superhero movie usually goes," Reynolds says of the Deadpool script. "It's a nasty piece of work. It's just based in so much emotional filth, completely. It's like Barfly if it were a superhero movie. It sort of treads into the world of an emotionally damaged person. I always say that Deadpool is a guy in a highly militarized shame spiral… It's so different than the superhero movies to date, it departs so far from that."

The script is by Zombieland's Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and according to Reynolds it requires establishing "moral flexibility" early on for its title character, the so-called Merc with a Mouth.

"There's a gamble to it -- you're going to lose a few people right at the beginning but you take the gamble and know that eventually you're going to win them back," he says. "You won't lose the hard-core fans of the character, they already know who he is. We have to play to a broader audience than that. As an actor you have to be willing to do something like … back in Vancouver we used to call it a [nasty] burger. 'You gotta eat the [nasty] burger to get to the cookies.'"

So say we all, Ryan.
What I've been saying. Reynolds did Wolverine in order to get the solo film.
He is perfect for the role.

Ryan Reynolds has a huge slate of projects lined up, which has led to obvious questions about whether any one or the other might have to give way due to scheduling issues. His two big comic book-derived films are Deadpool, long in development, still without a director, tangentially related to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and possibly a pretty crazy film.

And there’s R.I.P.D., to be directed by Robert Schwentke, helmer of Red. But there’s only so much time in the world, and it sounds like one of those films could well have to give way to the other.

io9 talked to Reynolds as he started to promote Buried, out in limited release this week. (NY and LA; everywhere on Oct 8.) He said that his next two films are The Change-Up (with Jason Bateman and Olivia Wilde) and Safe House, with Denzel Washington.

After those are shot comes a time period when either Deadpool or the undead-cops film R.I.P.D. might go forward. And because of that schedule it’s sounding like (no surprise) it’ll be one or the other.

Quote:
People sort of ask this question [which one will you make?], like I have any say in the matter. They’re both movies I’m interested in, they’re both movies that are in fast-track development. But I never say I’m doing a movie until I break for lunch the first day. Because it’s such a crapshoot, this industry. Everything’s so fickle and so contingent on so many factors, aside from just an actor. And because it has an actor, and because these films have interested directors, it’s obviously likely that they’ll both get made. But I think it would be more likely that only one of them gets made with me.
And what about a sequel to Green Lantern? Reynolds laughs that one off for now, joking “Oh, yeah, we got to get that cart well in front of the horse, I guess.”

(I know it seems lately that every third item we run is about either Ryan Reynolds or a J.J. Abrams project, but that what the end of the summer is like. Promise it’ll get more diverse soon as everyone gets back to work from their last vacation and film festival trips.)
Source

I really hope he'll choose Deadpool...
