I don't think this is a "comedy". This is just an insane/mad superhero movie, a new breed.

What would have to change to make you think this is a comedy?

I've always believed a film that places heavy influence on jokes/humour would be considered in some way a comedy.

There are so many jokes in this film. What is another film that places as much emphasis on humour as deadpool that would also not be a comedy?
The first thing that comes to mind is Cabin In The Woods. That movie has a lot of funny parts, but its emphasis on humour doesn't feel the same.

If I'm wrong to label it as such, I'll admit it. Right now I'm not seeing how comedy is a wrong label though.

It's obviously other things like action, adventure, and sci-fi but this goes HARD on humour.

There's all this talk how Deadpool could change the ways how future superhero films will be but I'm just going to throw this out there:

Maybe Deadpool was a success because it was a very good movie?

Maybe people aren't as adverse to R-rated content as studios thought. Maybe movies like the Expendables and Robocop should be rated-R.

Sam Raimi's Evil Dead. It considers itself a supernatural horror movie yet has a lot of comedy/humor in it. Not picking a side here, just pointing out a movie that you asked for.

Does Disney in any way benefit from Deadpool's success?

Army of Darkness, Kick Ass, Monty Python's Holy Grail, Kill Bill....basically R-rated films that are full of comedy, violence and fun.

I think it shows that people will see more of adult oriented film, if it is tastefully done, and not for shock factor. A well done movie will get be better received usually. This is what we have with Deadpool. He is the perfect character for this type of scenario.

Marvel/Disney does get a cut of the movie. But from what I've heard/read, it's a very small percentage...maybe 5%-10% of the WW gross.

I think it's why Marvel is a little pissy with FOX (among many reasons). They don't get a great cut of the films' profits

They're just mad that Fox did what they don't dare to do and did it very well.

Although I think the original Robo Cop would still get a R rating, you need to remember that at the time of release there was only a PG and R rating for normal films. PG 13 is actually a fairly new rating.

PG-13 has been around since late Summer of 1984. Robocop came out in 1987.
