And you are right. I guess I got mixed up with the M rating for video games.

The PG-13 rating began in 1984, so it did exist at the time of the original RoboCop in 1987. That film was actually going to be rated X (this was three years before NC-17) and had to be cut for an R rating. That's why the current Blu-ray is "Unrated". Now, it's probable that the uncut film would get an R rating today, although people tend to forget that practical violence (real fake blood and squibs) can look horrific, and RoboCop is so sadistic on top of that, you could still expect it to get an NC-17 today.

The remake is probably high on violence, but low on pain and suffering from that violence, which is the formula for PG-13--make violence attractive.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch.

There's no thinking about it. It would still get today. No thought process to reach that.

Bad guys don't say "gosh darn." They say F-you and do coke off a hookers tits. When people get shot, they just don't fall over, they bleed and sometimes chunks fly. We live in an R-rated world. I think PG-13 ruined a lot of movies. Everything doesn't need to be rated-R, but some things do if you want them to be realistic. I'm tired of bad guys in strip clubs where all the girls have clothes on. It takes me out of the movie.

Yeah, to see anyone say Robocop would "probably" be R is hilarious. It's earns that R rating more than nearly every movie that is releasing nowadays. It's hardcore.

He may be referring to the latest movie of each. Expendables III and the latest Robocop were PG-13.

Yes. I didn't really like the idea of a new RoboCop, but when I heard it was PG-13, I knew the people making it just didn't understand what made the original great, and that's not even mentioning Verhoeven's satire. They just wanted to slap a guy in an updated suit. Clarence Boddicker from the original is a great villain, one of the best ever.

The Taken movies would have been better rated-R.

Fantastic film and is probably the best Marvel film (although it is not) or right behind Winter Soldier (Good job Fox on not screwing this up). The villains could of been stronger as well as the film could of used more Colossus and Warhead but besides those points, the film is the Deadpool I wanted... with a badass girlfriend who is just as amazing as he is.

Well, it was made by the director of the two Elite Squad films and Narcos so I think he understands film violence and humor fairly well. The screenplay was written by a new guy and the political message was a little bit too upfront but I think he understood the original too. Sometimes you don't always get to make the movie you want to when a lot of other people's money is involved... or maybe they just wanted the political aspects to reach a larger audience. That being said, it wasn't bad at all and managed to be mildy disturbing with the PG-13 rating... I still wish Aronofsky would've worked on it instead of that Noah thing.

Oh also on the topic of this film being filmed in 2K, it was actually filmed in 4K unless the converted the film for theater use.

Went to see this on a whim today. 9 out 10 for me. There were maybe 20 other people in the theater, and everyone was laughing and having a great time.....you know, the reason we go to see movies......so yeah, a winner for sure.

Filming in x resolution and finishing in x resolution are two very different things. By most accounts Deadpool was finished in 2K, even for the Dolby Vision pass, despite having been shot on 3.4K Alexa. I guess savings had to come from somewhere in that budget, and so the finish got lowballed even though it wasn't 3D (which virtually guarantees a 2K finish unless your studio's name rhymes with Bony).
