Keep in mind that this weekend there's basically nothing compelling coming out (compelling in the sense of selling bookoo tickets), and the following weekend there's only Divergent: Allegiant to compete with. I think Deadpool has a great chance at $700 million, possibly $710, depending on foreign ticket sales.
Great word of mouth is leading this surprise box dominance

Previous Review Post:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=2933

Film:

Saw it again, I still agree with everything I've said in my review post. 4.5/5 (rounded to 5/5 on poll)

Audience:

Pretty dead, a few groups, but total was probably 15 people max. Some really young kids in this screening (toddlers), one started crying during the twelve bullets scene, and the other started when Wade became disfigured.

I'm not judging that they took their kids to this, I'm judging the fact that they didn't smartly decided if they could handle it; it depends on the kid, one kid could handle Deadpool great, another could be too frightened by Goosebumps.

Trailers (the ones I got on my previous post won't have my thoughts here):

Captain America: Civil War

The Purge: Election Year

The Brothers Grimsby - Red Band trailer this time, still have the same thoughts as the green band.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates

Meet the Blacks - Purge parody, this trailer was harder to sit through than normal as I just watched Attack and Return of the Killer Tomatoes (hilarious parodies), and all I thought as I watch the trailer is that we need great parodies like those two films back.

The Nice Guys - Red Band trailer, this is one of my most anticipated films of this year, love Shane Black's humor (and it's in full force here), the violence is enjoyably cartoonish for maximum dark humor, and the style really grabs me.

Thank you for pointing this out, as (not directed at you, rather at the parents in question) it gives me an opportunity to rant.

Taking a toddler to this movie is stupid and irresponsible. I understand parents want to watch movies, but get a babysitter if you're going to an R-rated movie. Toddlers don't need to see decapitations or other disturbing imagery. They also don't need to hear about half of the dialogue in this movie considering kids are sponges and they repeat every bloody thing they hear (and it's ALWAYS the stuff you wouldn't want them to repeat).

I'm sorry, I wouldn't judge if it was an older child (8+ given subject matter) and the parent believed it appropriate for that older child, but infants and toddlers don't need to see this. It's not healthy and there's no way to communicate effectively to that toddler in such a way that they can understand the disturbing imagery on-screen.

This is why they both cried. They have no comprehension of what's going on (that it's humorous, parody, satire, etc.), other than it looks real and scary.

I fully respect parents' rights to determine what is or is not appropriate for their child, but there are some rather basic psychological and developmental concepts at play here.

Additionally, the wrong kind of screen time for children under the age of 6 is considered to be damaging to their brains (much less disturbing imagery as showcased in Deadpool can be for their psychiatric health in general): http://healthland.time.com/2011/09/1...ears-that-out/

Garbage in, garbage out. Deadpool is fun garbage for adults that doesn't hurt us one way or another, but for toddlers, it's toxic waste.

It really depends on the kids, when I was 4 I was already watching stuff like Little Shop of Horrors (1986), and I knew it wasn't real and that it was silly. Also my parents did something smart for the language, they told me if I repeated any of the cursing that I wouldn't watch films like this for a long time, I liked watching awesome stuff like Little Shop, Gremlins, Poltergeist, and Beetlejuice (the other 3 was when I was 4-5) so I didn't repeat any of the cursing and my psychological state was perfectly fine.

I'd be a lot more understanding if we were talking about Gremlins or Poltergeist instead of Deadpool. None of the movies you mentioned were rated R, nor do they push limits in the same way as Deadpool. I get what you're saying and I think some kids, even young ones, can handle certain content better than others, but that little language trick isn't really going to work if you throw your four year old into the mix with a film like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, where in the first three minutes there are at least 34 F-bombs. Same goes for a movie like Deadpool where there's enough violence in the first few minutes, realistic violence (not that cartoony crap in the movies you mentioned) that shows plenty of gore and blood that most kids can't handle.

I know a 5 year old personally who can't handle The Indian in the Cupboard, because the toys coming to life freak them out (it's too real) and the cowboy shooting at the kid is disturbing to them (it's too real). It's so disturbing that this particular child hid their face behind an adult because they didn't want to watch anymore, because they were concerned the kid was going to get shot and hurt again.

This is what I'm trying to get to. Kids at this age, while they might feel safe with certain fantasy settings or content (that same kid can handle anything dinosaur-related because he understands that dinosaurs are extinct...but human-on-human violence is too much for him), aren't going to be able to handle everything you throw at them.

This is why the kids were crying, because they probably thought someone actually got ripped to shreds or shot in real life. The thought of that really happening to an actual person should be disturbing to any sane adult, much less a child.

All I'm saying is parents should utilize a little common sense here. Human-on-human violence that's graphic and terrible is not something you should be showing a 2-5 year old. I doubt these same parents would show their child graphic war footage or concentration camp footage at that age either, because it's depressing, terrible, graphic, and just horrible all around, and kids that age can't handle that stuff yet, because they lack the necessary mental faculties at that age to fully compartmentalize that sort of information. When everything you see and hear is initially in the "reality" bucket, and you don't yet have much of a "fantasy" bucket (aside a couple very limited settings), it does you as a child no good to see people being actively dismembered.

I love that movie now, but when I first watched it when I was 8, I had nightmares for weeks and that first night I couldn't fall asleep until at least 3 AM. That one was actually more of the curse of understanding the allegories presented in the film and taking them to extremes within my mind (and therefore my dreaming subconscious). As a kid the film threw a whole bunch of weighty considerations at me and I didn't really know how to address them all, so I basically had to wait it out while my subconscious decided WTF to do with it.

Great film, but yeah, if you want to freak your kid out and put them off rabbits for a while, let them bask in Watership Down. Guaranteed to ruin Easter!

I never had a film force me to have a hard time going to sleep, did have a Freddy nightmare when I was a kid. The only film that had left a scar on me was JAWS and it isn't even about the shark, it is large bodies of water. I love sharks but f*ck being in the ocean with them and everything else hidden in it, I'm going to Australia and dealing with deadly things on land.

I wonder if Deadpool will be doing the commentary for the Bluray/DVD release?

Also for your viewing pleasure! (Spoilers for those who haven't seen Deadpool yet.)

I think it's unlikely Deadpool will pass DoFP, but only because there will be no revenue from China outside Hong Kong. Clearly in the U.S. it fared better than any other X-Men movie (It even beat them all when adjusted for inflation).

In no way is Deadpool appropriate for a 4 year old, though. Sorry. And I'm pretty easy going on things like that.

Deadpool is only $40 million behind DoFP. It definitely has a chance to pass it.

I agree. But in my opinion, the sexual content was more the issue for young kids, more so than the language.... The language was bad, but you can threaten kids not to repeat it... The exposure to the sexual content however... well there's not much you can do about that... "Dad, why was he by her waist under the covers?"..... "Dad why was he behind her and then why was she behind him?".... "Dad why did they keep wrestling each other again and again?".... You get the picture...

I came to a startling realization yesterday: Deadpool is simply an adult version of The Emperor's New Groove.

Let's look at some correlations here, shall we?
  • Both movies break the fourth wall regularly and follow non-linear timelines, complete with narration by the main character explaining just how ridiculous their life has become and is.
  • Both characters begin as relatively normal people (emperor or not) who are easily classified as anti-heroes.
  • Both characters are horribly disfigured by a series of events gone awry, a transformation which keeps them from the object of their desire (Wade from Vanessa, Kuzco from being Emperor and his pool).
  • Both characters must enlist the help of a poor sidekick in order to rebuild their strength post-transformation (Wade shacks up with Al the blind lady, Kuzco shacks up with Pacha).
  • Both villains have a strong dumb sidekick.
  • Both villains are horribly distraught that the anti-hero is alive ("A llama?! He's supposed to BE DEAD!!!!" "He's just bad for business.").

In other words, David Spade's Kuzco is the real Deadpool (maybe even Wade's ancestor?), and we've just been waiting for the sequel for 16 years.

So with video/streaming sales, does anyone think the movie would reach a total of 800 million?
