I agree on Wright as well. He'd be perfect to direct Deadpool. But he's still working on Ant-Man right now so I'm not sure he'll have time to focus on another movie...Fox is probably going to screw this up. Reynolds IS Deadpool. Still not sure about him as Hal Jordan...It's not sitting right with me...

Well I hope something works out so that he can direct it. All I can do is hope.

What about Greg Mottola? Or maybe David Gordon Green?

I do love Edgar Wright's work though. Man, idk.

Greg Mottola could be alright, though the action scenes within Paul aren't that impressive, I have only seen Pineapple Express and trailers for Your Highness from DGG, but the action doesn't seem all that impressive in Your Highness and Pineapple Express thrives on terrible fight choreography.

Well the action wasn't the focus in those movies, so I would think they would put more effort into them in an "action movie". Not that Deadpool is an action movie to begin with. The comics are more centered on his mental issues and his planning process, rather than the actual acts (the good ones are). Plus DP is all over the place anyway. He's not really a focused character. A lot of the DP stuff coming out today is not him. So I don't really want to see Daniel Way's version on the screen, even though the comics are fun. I want Joe Kelly's. His DP is more complex. And the action is secondary, albeit well choreographed.

that was kind of the point, the characters arent skilled fighters. it was showing how dumb everyday stoners would fight. the fighting in Pineapple Express was reminiscent of Raising Arizona to me which is a big plus.
i think David Gordon Green would be a good pick.
i agree Edgar Wright would be perfect, but i really want him to concentrate on Ant-Man.

Robert Rodriguez (who I love) never struck me as the ideal choice, but so many people went ape shit when his name was attached, now Edgar Wright's name comes up, and I get the same feeling. I love his movies as well, but I don't want him to direct my favorite character's movie. I would prefer someone who makes everyone say "what the hell did they pick him for?" Sort of how the character is treated by the rest of the Marvel U. He's never taken seriously. That makes me sort of happy they're looking for a comedy director. Hey, the script is already finished, and quite good from what I hear. I've heard that it is very dark comedy central. But idk, I'm no expert, but I think the director of Pineapple Express would do a great job for some reason.

I agree that Edgar Wright would probably do a very good job. He can definitely do action, comedy, and action/comedy. That is the right direction to go. A comedy director might not be able to get the action right and an action director might not be able to get the comedy right. Deadpool has a great mix of both.

Ryan Reynolds is perfect for Deadpool and I think he is leading man material. He carried an entire movie as the only actor on-screen (Buried). That could also come down to taste though.

Not to mention he (pre-stapled mouth) was the best thing about X-Men Origins.

True. And the amazing thing was basically nothing written for him. He came up with a lot of his stuff which shows just how much he gets the character.

I really liked Scott Pilgrim, but I fear Wright might try the same thing with Deadpool. I don't want the Deadpool movie to feel like a comic book brought to life. I want it to feel like a movie about a psycho assassin who knows he's in a movie. I'd like to see something like a really meta Wanted except with humor cranked up to 11. I don't know if Wright would do it that way. If he could hit something more like Hot Fuzz, I'd be 1000% behind him on it, but I feel like he'd want to make it super stylized and comic-book-y.

I agree with you an what the movie should look like and I would be disappointed if Wright made it like Scott Pilgrim, but I wouldn't worry about that. It wouldn't work for Deadpool and Wright, I think, would recognize that.

I'm trying to put together an idea of what the movie should look like compared to other films, but I just can't quite get there. Anything I think of is not quite right. I think with the right director, Deadpool could look pretty unique.

That what I meant by saying it thrives on it

More on Wright, all you guys are thinking about Scott Pilgrim as a tentpole for this film if he took it up. I was thinking more the subtle humour that runs through all his films, he could easily have a character break the forth wall and not actually throw you out of the film.

I understand with Wright being an possible choice (just need to watch Space for that kind of humour deadpool brings).
but with Scott Pilgrim not doing so well (why didn't more people go see it ) Fox might use that against him.
I could see Ruben Fleischer getting it

Yeah but Scott Pilgrim got critical success, as far as that goes, he's 3 for 3, he needs a more accessible film and then he will come up good.

According to this news Deadpool will be a complete reboot

Quote:
Donner also said in regards to the long-gestating Deadpool spin-off from X-Men Origins: Wolverine;

“It’s a total reboot… We’re either going to pretend that didn’t happen – or mock it, which he could

It’s insane, it’s definitely comedy,

But it’s an R script, it’s really irreverent and violent. Right away, we’re out of the X-Men world”.
