I'm still a little pissed at the "X-Men Origins" part. I don't care if it's a marketing move. It's stupid. Nothing anyone says will make me feel any better about it.

Deadpool Creator Robert Liefeld Comments On Tim Miller Directing The Big Screen Adaptation!

Quote:
Via Twitter, creator Robert Liefeld shared some of his thoughts regarding Tim Miller, a director who will bring Deadpool to the big screen, in his own comic book adaptation.

"The Deadpool director, Tim Miller has an outstanding CGI/FX company, Blur Studios. Miller has all the instincts, tools and tech to pull off the most crazy aspects of Deadpool film. And Miller had to run the gauntlet, getting the blessing of writers Reese and Wernick, as well as Ryan Reynolds AND the studio. The Deadpool script calls for some CRAZY visual sequences - needed a director with extensive FX mojo. Looking forward 2 Tim Miller's direction.

Trust me, having read the script a thousand times, I had legitimate concerns over directors being able to handle the requirements of DP. I believe the DP film scared the crap out of some prospective directors. As a matter of fact I know some of them were intimidated. Seriously the action and direction imagined by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is crazy complicated. Think the best of Kill Bill, Matrix, Woo.."

With Ryan Reynolds still attached, Deadpool is probably going to start production this year.

So far, this has the makings of one of the best comic book films yet. I seriously hope it doesn't get screwed up. It all comes down to Fox. If they'll actually take a chance and let this thing be R like it needs to, it's gonna be amazing.

BUT, if they do start laying the hammer down... it's all gonna fall apart very, very quickly. The only hope is that they apparently really like the script, cause they signed a director and the ball is finally starting to roll.

If Ryan Reynolds drops out, I'll be devastated. But surely, as much as he loves this character, he wouldn't drop out with it so close to finally being made.

I think it depends on the budget too. If this is a $50-$60 million movie; it's not that big a risk for Fox. It's a decent amount of money but not enough to be a HUGE risk for Fox (Like the A-Team. Loved the movie, but $110 million budget was WAY too much).

Especially with the title "X-Men Origins." This will attract casual X-Men fans, hardcore X-Men/Deadpool fans and people will be attracted by Ryan Reynolds.

Sounds like a vote of confidence to me.

I actually hope they drop the X-Men Origins title seeing as how this has nothing to do with the character that was in XMO: Wolverine. And from what I hear, there would be direct conflict to the continuity in multiple ways.

The medium budget would also be good. Keep it decent and the money will come back.

Working at a theater it makes them a whole lot easier to alphabetize them and put them together, but since the next Wolverine movie is going to be called The Wolverine it won't matter any more.

With the last Die Hard movie when different people were looking for and putting material for it away it would be in different places because the title was Live Free or Die Hard so it belongs in the L's but most people looked in the D's.

I don't see how that matters. Deadpool isn't in any of the previous X-Men films.
[Show spoiler]No, that Weapon XI shit was not Deadpool.
So this movie shouldn't even try to associate with the flaming pile of garbage that is XMO: Wolverine. Plus, out of respect for the character, give him his own damn title! "X-Men Origins"? He's not a freaking X-Man. They don't even like him, so it just doesn't make sense. It has nothing to do with alphabetizing, and everything to do with marketing. They don't trust that his movie will sell on its own, without the X-Men moniker.

Absolutely right. Deadpool has very little to do with the X-Men (except that he claims to be a member somtimes ). And it might bring in some people if tey included the Origins in the title, but people might go in with the wrong expectations: Oh another superhero movie where really good guys stand up against really bad guys. Erm... not so much

That cracks me up. Cyclops had a look on his face like he wanted to gut DP in one of Way's issues when he was in San Francisco posing as an X-Man. Remember that?

I do remember that. Though I thought the time he wore Jean Grey's outfit was even funnier.

I think it would be for the best to drop all association with the Origins name all together. There is no need for it and it would bring up more negatives in the minds of people than positives.
X-Men Origins? Wasn't that the really awful movie a few years back?
That is the more likely reaction than the positive association the creators might hope for.

I think this is the funniest ensemble of that issue (or book, whatever)

[Show spoiler]

Taken right from my book.

And I agree. They should drop all ties to that movie. Wolverine is my second favorite comic book character, after yours truly, but I did not like that movie.

If they do that in the movie, that will be enough to make it rated R.

I like Wolverine as well and I enjoy that movie, but it fell so short of the potential that it was one of the biggest letdowns of any movie for me.

Deadpool has been in development for years and a lot of fans are wondering if the film ever going to happen. At a press junket for Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds talked about his love for the character and explained that the film is STILL in development.

Said Reynolds:

Quote:
"Growing up, I read a bit of X-Men stuff and I loved Deadpool. You know, my brother introduced me to Deadpool and that was a character I loved, but beyond that I didn't know that much about comics. Those are the ones I kind of stuck to."

"Deadpool is a character that I love and I got a great opportunity to play him in more of ancillary sense in a film, which was great because it allowed me to jump in and play him, but then not be committed to too much beyond that. But I do have that film that's in development still, so we'll see what happens with that."

Reynolds went on to say that playing Deadpool was a privilege, and that playing Green Lantern was the role of a life time, saying "For the most part, Green Lantern's the first kind of iconic superhero role that I've ever had the great opportunity to play. I'm pretty damn grateful for that."

Oh trust me, whether it be a cheap "X-Men Origins" tie-in/cash-grab, or a dark, violent Blade-like underground Marvel Knightsy kind of flick, IT. WILL. HAPPEN.

I guess I should clarify my statement...It worry it won't happen with Reynolds. He's becoming so busy, this movie may be in development with him but if it starts to be that too much time is going by, they move on without him. That's what worries me.

I thought he said before that it was on his list after GL. Like a year, or so ago.

He's doing a lot right now. And if Green Lantern does well, they already have a script for the second and it's said to be going into production close to immediately. On top of all his other commitments like R.I.P.D. and the one he's doing right now with Denzel Washington, he's a busy guy...This could end up falling by the wayside unless he really figures out how to fit it into his schedule.
