I think that, if it isn't well-received, in ten years we'll be talking about it as a "cult classic," but I hope it will be appreciated in its own time.

But so was resident evil in 2002 [terrible scores lol], again as long as this thing does 3 to 4 times or more its budget, it really won't matter if it gets a 1 star because they'll have the data that people want more deadpool. Where it'll suck is if it does like 2 times it's budge and gets HORRIBLE reviews.. Then it'll be left in that grey zone, kinda like Punisher in 2004 where it was a 30ish million dollar budget and ended up somewhere near 60 million, and then took us another 4 years to get War Zone which was a better movie, but again laid a big dud at the box office...

I desperately hope for the character it gets the best of both worlds, a decent metric and tons of cash optimal I would say would be if the budget was 35 million 140-160million in box office earnings would all but sure up we'd get 1 or 2 more films, and maybe see them stick him in some more mainstream marvel movies although I guess if fox owns the rights he can't be stuck in a Disney owned film.

I was thinking something something similar. I can see this getting destroyed by critics and review sites i.e. rotten tomatoes.

I bet it gets a positive rotten tomato score. Around 60%, certified fresh....

Yeah, but it's adult in the "not appropriate for kids" sense, not in the "this is a mature piece of art for grown-ups" sense... or possibly even in the "adults will be able to tolerate sitting through this juvenile display" sense. Big close up of his crotch in the opening seconds, shortly followed by a close-up of his ass with the first of many butt/poop jokes ("you look like the inside of other peoples' *******s," "ow, right up Main Street," "he wore the brown pants"). None of it struck me as actually funny ("time to make the chimichangas?" Is that witty, or any kind of a joke beyond 'he's saying a thing that's different from what he's actually about to do'?), the violence is over the top and weightless, the plot appears to be a tired cliche (he's only out for himself until "you find out your worst enemy is after your best girl, the time has come to be a ****ing superhero")...

I appreciate that this appears to be true to the comics - as opposed to the Wolverine movie, where it's hard to believe that was actually meant to be the same character - so fans will finally get to see him portrayed correctly. But this looks like it could be positively awful to a not-already-devoted-to-the-comic-book audience. I mean, the first trailer had him rapping along to Salt-N-Pepa's "Shoop" (and specifically, and unsurprisingly, a line about butts); that's not the kind of thing I associate with high quality movies. Of course, this is just going by two trailers that are surely trying to market to a broad, teenage demographic - so maybe the movie itself will be a little more thoughtful - but I doubt we'll be seeing clips of this at next year's Critics Choice Awards.

This is Deadpool not Brokeback Mountain. Only film snobs care about what critics say to pass judgement on others and tell them they have bad taste in movies if a particular film is not up to their standards.

My advice... If you don't think that it will be enjoyable, don't watch it. If you think it will be enjoyable, watch it. Don't rely on critics to make up your mind for you.

At least the trailers are being blatantly honest about what this film will be. It's not trying to trick anybody into coming to the theatre under false pretenses. I hope that we can at least agree to respect the film for that reason alone.

I'm so excited for this movie I can barely contain myself. Each and every trailer and leak just make me more and more excited for Feb 11th at midnight.

i could just imagine what Deadpool would say if someone says his movie isn't worthy of a critics choice award.

as a matter of fact, i hope they release some kind of video for all of the "critics" that hate the movie and he tells us what his thoughts are.

you pretty much nailed every facet of this character.......this movie def. won't be for everybody.....including you i'm guessing.

The movie just feels so 90's, which feels accurate for this stupid pandering character, coming from ultimate douche nozzle Rob Liefeld. It looks like a more violent Adam Sandler movie from the mid 90's.

Looks pretty damn awesome to me! I actually like what they did here. Small budget, more of a niche movie but has a big name brand Marvel, even though its made by fox. Doesn't have to break any box office records just make a decent profit so that a sequel can be green lit.

We need super hero movies with small budgets. Not every hero or villain can carry a billion dollar franchise and this way we can get other niche hero or villains to pop up on the big screen.

2016 is looking pretty damn sweet so far:

Feb Deadpool
March BvS
May Civil War, Apocalypse
Aug Suicide Squad
Oct Gambit
Nov Dr Strange

Did I miss anything or are there none in June and July?

Cheers,
CC-

Yeah, I'm not expecting Deadpool to be an adults thinking superhero film; since the character is not supposed to be intellectual in the first place. I can get over the immaturity of the humor, in hopes there is more crazy action from the dual wielding, sword fighting, smart-aleck, that people are expecting to see.

Doesn't feel 90's to me at all. Certainly doesn't feel like an Adam Sandler film. Adam Sandler used ignorance and a lack of intelligence as his "go to" for comedic delivery. Deadpool may be offering up some immaturity, but it is neither from ignorance nor a lack of intelligence. He's just being blatantly honest in saying a lot of shit that most adults do think but keep to themselves. THAT is why I think this film looks so amazing. He'll be a completely relatable character in a very unique way. I'm guessing that there will be many people who go to see this film and they will love it, but you wouldn't expect them to do either if you knew them in real life.

The same critics that praised films like Kick-Ass and Kingsman (they both got immature in places), and comedy films like This is the End and Zombieland [same writers as Deadpool](both very immature in places). I honestly don't think they'll pan it just because it's immature, but it depends if it's an actually well made film, which it looks like it is just based on the trailers. Yes this Tim Miller's first film, but this is the co-founder of Blur Studios, a bada$$ animation company that have made some really awesome stuff, so if there's any first time director that can pull a greatly made film for his first, it will be him.
