That there hasn't been a sale on it in 3 years where the price dipped into the $40-$50 range is nuts.
Star Wars, like Disney movies, are something people are willing to pay a bit more for. That's why they haven't dropped the price - they don't have to in order to sell it. And really, $60-$70 for 6 movies and 9 discs with hours of bonus features is not a bad deal at all.

They would literally have to recreate all of the alterations from scratch to do a better quality version of what was released in the Complete Saga edition.

I'd actually like to see Disney allow and fund George Lucas to go back and redo his preferred "Final Editions" or something from scratch. He could put back in every alteration he wanted, plus they could redo all of the added CGI and fix all of the lightsabers and other technical hiccups they've missed so far. That's just a pipe dream but I think it would be a cool curiosity to go along with the UOT.
Yes, that would be really cool indeed. However, George could have done that already. It's just that he doesn't seem to care that much.

One thing I forgot to mention about ROTJ. I thought Vader's Noooo at the end was really powerful, and not at all distracting.
I also felt that there was a lot of time seeing his inner workings, before he utters those words, so nothing is lost, and it makes it even more powerful.
I literally love that scene now. Really awesome!

I guess we will never learn why George Lucas didn't have all the stuff fixed, or why the ILM guys, many of whom huge SW geeks themselves, didn't say: Can we fix this?? It just doesn't make sense to make the changes that were made, but not fix all the lightsabers, garbage mattes, etc.. It's just weird.

Eidt: The Complete Saga is an incredibly beautiful package, with tons of really nice special features, and the best movies of all time, so I even paid for priority shipping that one time. The only time ever! I don't regret it one bit.

TPM DVD was unwatchable, so even though the BD is not exactly perfect, it's lightyears better than the DVD version, and has the framing corrected.

AOTC has Shmi crying for help during Anakin's dream now, which was much needed, as that scene had always been weirdly uncomfortable to watch.

Bought the set on a whim, as a non-fan. Was really jarring to go from the glitz, special effects, incredible light saber duels and gorgeous costuming to the 70's hair and puppets, which means I was probably stupid to watch them in order.

As an objective observer who didn't grow up with any of the films, I enjoy the emotional arc of the first three the best. It's much more impacting to me to see Anakin turn to the dark side, and watch the emotional fall-out on everyone, than to watch Luke's story unfold. By virtue of that, I like the prequels more.

The only thing I can think of to compare the "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" to is at the end of the Godfather when
[Show spoiler]Vito Corleone dies of the heart attack. In the film he drops to the ground dead but what should have happened is he stands up, twirls around, grabs his arm and yells out "ouch, I am having a heart attack", and then drops to the ground.

1 - I'm just curious, how old are you?
2 - How many times have you watched the movie, previously, be it TV, VHS, LaserDisk or even DVD?

I also prefer Vader's "No" in Jedi as well. It always seems like it should have been there.

The trailer for Episode VII has now reached 58.2 million views in just a few days. Most impressive.

You guys need to find a new religion. Preferably something that doesn't revolve around a product of Hollywood.

No need to be snarky, I was just trying to see if I could figure out how the Vader "NOOO" wasn't all that glaring to you.
Since you are just about as old as me and have seen it a lot, I'm still confused...

Yeah, it's a shame they didn't have the technology to do that right the first time.

But it's all good now and that's all that matters.

See, that's why I don't have you on my ignore list. You make me laugh. Even though this wasn't very funny or original.

In all seriousness though. It's a moment reminiscent of Vader's Nooo in ROTS, and that wasn't made until 2005, so in a way....

Also, the internal process is really long enough to still easily get it without having him say it, and then it erupts out of him. It truly DOES make it that much more powerful a moment, if one watches it with an open mind.

My wife didn't shout at the screen: Why did he just say that!!!!?????? He ruined the whole saga for me now!!!!! Geoooooooooooooooorgeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
She had no problem with it, and no, I hadn't told her about it beforehand.

Maybe, just maybe, these movies weren't made for cynics, who seemingly despise Lucas to the utmost, but for people who actually enjoy them for what they are: Great, entertaining, spiritual morality tales.

The only morality tale that I see in SW is that a promising maverick filmmaker gained great success against all odds, but because of that success he eventually embodied everything wrong with film-making that he had once railed against.

No, by kowtowing to a bunch of whiners on the internet would he become like what he railed against: studios playing it safe because they are afraid to take chances...heaven forbid if it would upset some vocal detractors. He did what he wanted, and with his own funds.

The ither thing he did - and he's one of the few if not only creator to do this - was allowing the proliferation of fan films with the footage to exist and thrive. Going all the way back to Hardware Wars, Lucas has welcomed -basically- the pirating of his own movies so fans could do fun stuff with the footage.

In short, you can do what you want with his films, and he can do what he wants with his films. I really respect him for that stance.
