"Own the ruined Incomplete Star Wars Saga all over again, but this time in shiny new packaging." could be the ad campaign.

I was thinking the same thing. I would have put Jango on Episode II and Boba on Episode V.

Maybe it could be called "suckers' limited edition"?

That makes too much sense proving why you don't have a job in marketing for a movie studio.

Fox can't distribute the movies anytime they want, they can only release them where and when LucasFilm tells them to. This is LucasFilm milking the cow, not Fox.

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens after 2020 in regards to distribution of A New Hope since LucasFilm now holds the copyright.

Fox will always own ANH after 2020, it's been said before and it's being said again.

But let's cut middle ground; how about if we say Fox AND Lucasfilm both own ANH?

Exactly, nothing new here at all same discs, same transfers. We should all reconvene on this thread in a few more years if and when someone decides to release new transfers or originals.

You are wrong, just like others have been wrong.
FOX no longer owns Star Wars: Episode 4: A New Hope.
FOX does however control Distribution Rights for it though.

And Disney will be buying them if they haven't already.
There would be no reason for them to have invested such a large amount of money in the series if they couldn't eventually control all of it.

Heck Yeah that cover for the Saga set looks amazing. I will rebuy and ditch my old set. And all 6 steels for me. Really dissapointed that they didn't do Jango for 2 I liked the idea someone had for all 6 getting hero and villian steelbooks. Maybe the Heroes will be on the back. They could have done Boba for 5 as well too. Weird they didn't. That would probably be the best selling steelbook ever in that case.

LucasFilm clearly *owns* the movie now, but Fox may still have perpetual distribution rights...but that only means Fox gets paid to distribute the six movies until 2019 or 2020...like a paper route, and then afterwards they'd only have distribution rights to the one movie. They don't own the movie, they can't control when or where the film is released, they just do what they're told to do, they get their cut, and they say thank you, sir, may I have another. I can easily see Fox eventually giving up those distribution rights in some sort of bargain. We live in a world where rights to an obscure cartoon character from the 20's became part of a deal to get Al Michaels out of his contract from ABC...where Sony says screw it and lets Marvel tackle Spider-Man. These people will work it out.

Disappointed in the Steels. Wish Jango was on episode II and Boba on V, as a few others have said.
The complete saga cover looks better than the current one, but I still want to see what it looks like after it comes out. I want to see how it's packaged.

I'm glad that they are releasing them separately. I might buy the original trilogy when they area really cheap. I don't want to pay much for the ruined versions but it would be great to see Star Wars in HD. I haven't seen them on Blu-Ray yet.

Amazing news. All new boxes and cover art.

The packaging is remastered and that is a fact. You people are just complainers, who even cares about the films at this point? I'd buy just the boxes quite frankly, which are now twice as nice at half the price.

I can't wait to smell them. Dig around in there, touch the boxes. Really open them up and close them. Get deep in those things, cause trouble in those boxes.

I'd be interested in anything you can link to that shows Fox does NOT own Episode IV in perpetuity. Lucas made a deal to have sole rights for all of his movies AFTER "Star Wars," with Fox having distribution rights until 2020. This, however, does not include the "first" film.

Anything Disney/Lucasfilm does with EpIV will have to have Fox's involvement. And Fox loves money, so ... they'll play along.

Sure there is, and you're seeing it right now. Your guess implies they knew ahead of the purchase that they'd get them from Fox. Well, years later and there doesn't appear to be movement on that front.

What you're seeing now: 3 more films in the saga committed to. Two more spin off films committed to. Control of the Indiana Jones franchise. And I don't believe Fox gets even a sliver of a slice of any Star Wars coffee mugs.

For $4billion, Disney will be able to churn out more and more Star Wars merchandise that will reduce the overall foot print and consumer importance of Ep4. In the end the purchase was pennies on the dollar and a license to print mountains of cash regardless. If Fox never agrees to sell then Disney only loses a very very small piece of the overall pie. They bought a nice pie.

If you read that article, the entire thing is based off a Hollywood Reporter story and this direct quote:

Quote:
But Fox owns distribution rights to the original Star Wars, No. 4 in the series, in perpetuity in all media worldwide. And as for the five subsequent movies, Fox has theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights worldwide through May 2020.
That's what people are saying - there's a difference between owning a property and owning its media distribution rights. Someone else used the analogy of a paper route, being the difference between getting paid to deliver and release the papers and actually owning the rights to the paper itself.

If FOX does own the distribution rights couldn't they just be real jerks about it and when Disney wants to release ANH just say "Nah, we don't want to" and block it. It would never happen of course as stated earlier that FOX loves money.

Thank you for getting it. I have said it from day 1 - JJ is using no more practical effects than any other movie. Look at 1:25 on the original clip - green screen all over the place - only real thing is the stairway.

Oh, he made a practical droid - so did Lucas in the prequels. R2 and 3PO weren't cg, they were real. JJ Is working the crowd with this practical effects nonsense and people are eating it up because he showed a cute droid to make everyone go ahhhh. Lucas may have gone a little overboard with the cg in the prequels but JJ is not stepping way back like he says he is, he just sells it more than other films do. Besides, JJ doesn't hate cg - look at his previous films, they are loaded with cg.

Doing the same, ditching my old Saga set and rebuying this new one. The cover is boss with Vader on it!
