Didn't the Final cut only release come like over a year later? I ordered the briefcase so I don't remember exactly, but I don't remember a Final-Cut only release option until months and months later.

Either way, Blade Runner had never before been released on BD and its fans were far less likely to be "mainstream" consumers and far more likely to understand the different releases included in the set. Talking about releasing a SW set with 6 or 7 different cuts is putting the cart way, way before the horse. SE fans already have their Blu Ray release. It's time to release the original cuts - fans waiting for the original cuts, by and large, don't have the slightest interest in the 5,000 different iterations of the SE's.

Now that would confuse the market
Oh please. To claim that an "original cut" only edition would confuse the market more than a huge boxset edition with several different cuts (including "Final", "original", and various different "Special" cuts) is absolute absurdist fantasy.

Dude, take it easy, it's just a hypothetical, I never said they couldn't release the originals on their own. If they released the theatricals and the mega boxset separately then would that meet with sir's approval?

The cuts aren't important, because they are select-able in the root menu: theatrical, special edition and uncut. It less expensive this way. Why does 20th century Fox releases Disney owned franchises in 2015? Disney owns LucasArts.

most people already have a DVD version of Star Wars and dont want copies. I'm a fan so I got VHS, DVD and BD.

Aye. Some of the Anakin and Padme at her parents' place scenes, or at least one of those deleted scenes in AOTC proper would be most appreciated.

They would have to be colour matched then, no thanks

I think you mean if at this point. I could easily see some industry rep plowing through this thread and deciding to head off to lock the UOT negatives away with, uh, top men...

Maybe not "walk away", but that kind of confusion is entirely possible. The Beatles 1+ release confused the hell out of the members of an audiophile forum I frequent, and the release schedule was simple:

1 CD only (with new stereo mixes)
1 single DVD only
1 single blu-ray only
1 standard edition CD +DVD
1 standard edition CD + blu-ray
1+ Deluxe CD + 2 x DVD
1+ Deluxe CD + 2 x blu-ray

...and that's it. Cue not complete anarchy, but a long series of posts "is x video available on y release" and "does the CD come in the deluxe edition set", etc etc etc...and it's the BEATLES, man!

Take it easy? Ahaha, I don't know what you're talking about - it was a legitimate question about Blade Runner.

As for the boxset I have no interest in any cut but the original cuts, but if it was my only option then sure, what the Hell.

I'm just going to leave this here, for all of us old-school fans… a new book that features all of the original Topps trading cards from 1977-78:

http://www.abramsbooks.com/product/s...9781419711725/

Also available on Amazon (for cheaper than this info link). Already ordered my copy. Still have the original "blue" series. Good fun.

Honest question: do most people in the general public even know or care about the changes to the OT from 97 onwards? Just trying to imagine a home video marketing campaign saying "For the first time ever in HD... the ORIGINAL Star Wars films as you saw them in theaters" and people scratching their heads like "so what the hell have we been watching all these years?" Friends of mine who are movie fans or at least casual Star Wars fans looked at me like an idiot when I bought the LE DVDs - "don't you already have the DVDs?"

Just start running the regulars on Spike and people will be like, "Oh wow, Star Wars is so good, who knew. I always thought it was some silly kids show before. Maybe I'm just remembering things wrong... "

There's no telling for sure. I'd say 'a significant percentage of Star Wars fans' care about the UOT. Also, even people who love to say "shut up about the Special Editions, gosh!" would still buy them, because they wouldn't be able to stand not having all versions of the trilogy. One thing is for sure: it's a guaranteed money maker, and that's why its release is inevitable.

Depends on your age. If you were a kid in the 90's or earlier and watched Star Wars, then yes, you likely do. If you were a young kid in the late 90's or born afterwards, AND you didn't have parents who were Star Wars fans specifically showing you the original versions, then probably not.

I'd definitely be interested to see what some of these kids would think of the UOT if they'd never seen it. Crappy additions or no, if you grew up with the movies a certain way, it would be weird to watch them with a bunch of stuff "missing."

Honest Answer: General Public is a big mix of individuals...but I direct you to the staggering indifference to the E.T. re-release after the Star Wars SE releases. The "general public" heard it had been neutered and altered, Star Wars Special Edition/Han Solo style, and it flopped...hard. HARD. Spielberg himself says it was a mistake and he would never do it again. LUCAS says his Han Solo alteration was a mistake and he should have never done it.

Yeah, the general public knows.

I was born in the late 80's and I can tell you growing up I never got the chance to watch Star Wars. My parents however bought pretty much all the Disney movies on VHS. But never Star Wars. I recently got into the Star Wars universe and bought the Star Wars Complete Saga on Blu-ray last year and just recently did a marathon run watching ALL of them.

I now want to see the original cuts to see what the movies use to look like before Lucas made changes. I'm definitely interested and I hope Disney does release the UOT on Blu-ray sometime soon if not I'll be fine purchasing the 2006 set or VHS tapes just so I can see or revisit the original. Its something I missed while growing up.

IIRC it's in an interview he gave to Empire magazine, he said he'd never have changed it if he knew how much flak he'd cop for doing it.
