Do any of you have any arguments when people say that The Force Awakens added absolutely nothing to the Star Wars universe?

Do you have anything better to do than asking TFA questions and getting mad when people didn't love the movie, JJ?

I don't. While TFA is not worth the hype, it still is a fun movie to me. I hope the next entry has more depth.
I think that the film has its fans and to just keep crapping on its problems is to disregard the people that do care about the film.

A Star Wars entry is like pizza. Even when it is not as good I will still eat it up.

I gotta admit that I missed it when I saw it. Maybe it is all the plastic helmets I had through he years, and assuming vader would have something light for his head. A metal helmet all the time would be ass.

The prequels are like a Hawaiian pizza, I'll eat it but I'll moan about the pineapple all day long. That said, at least I can pick the pineapple off on an actual pizza but I can't do the same with the prequels, sadly.

Not following you can not eat the pizza ever again but why bemoan the people that do? Even those that say like pineapple better aren't nearly as vocal about disregarding the classic styles. If the prequels are pineapple, than TFA is a cheap "gourmet" grocery store bought style. Sure the box picture looks great, but in the end it is still a frozen knockoff....but I still eat frozen!

Let's lighten this up for a second. Haven't see Rogue yet. I plan to today (no spoilers please)

Just got the SilverScreen edition. I am so stoked and have some BD-R coming in today.

Will Rogue tie in beautifully, or is it best to treat the original Star Wars to its own masterpiece state?

I'm just having fun with the thread. After all, these are just movies. How much stuff in our real lives make absolute sense with thread-like precision of continuity?

To be bothered with the 'died of a broken heart' business is to kind of totally misread what he's attempting to do. It doesn't need to make logical sense in the context of the movie. It needs to make emotional/poetic sense. You can argue that it doesn't even achieve that, but that's another issue...

In line with this, to try and pin down logic to any character motivations, particularly C-3PO- who is part Stan Laurel and part Kurosawa peasant- and not see him as the more human than human worry-wart that his is, is to totally miss the joy of the character.
The Padme dying scene could definitely have been handled better, but overall I agree that George Lucas is more of an abstract visual filmmaker.
Also, she got the BEST funeral scene of all times. Just hauntingly beautiful, epic and sad.

Indeed. ROTS was the last DVD I bought, save for some stuff that was either shot on video, or will no likely ever make it to BD.

When did I ever bemoan the people who do? Have at it, good sir.

I love the prequels as much as I hate them, if that makes sense. If movie appreciation consisted of subtextual readings and thematic undertones alone then the prequels would be considered to be works of genius but alas, movies are also judged on things like acting, dialogue, tone etc for which the prequels are often so bad they'd make Uwe Boll blush with shame. Wonderful ideas realised in horribly clunky ways is the best way I can sum them up.

One man's 'poor writing' is another man's trope I suppose.

Like good one....kinda like saying one died from a truck grill smashing your face but ignoring the bottle of Jack that caused it to happen.

I guess SIDS is magic too.

!
I wasn't insulting the movie's intelligence by saying that it was "magic", just chalking it up to some unexplainable event.

SIDS is known to be associated with predisposing risk factors like a baby sleeping in a prone position, second hand smoke exposure and prematurity.

Nice try smartass.

Yes, Vader explicitly states, "Luke -- help me take this titanium-reinforced vacumn-sealed helmet -- which is definitely not a plastic mask -- help me take it off, so that I can see you with my own eyes, which somehow miraculously survived my entire head engulfed in flame."

But won't all that weight pressed up against your head and neck kill you?

Physiologically, there's nothing that can stop that now.
