The 2011 US box is a digibook of sorts but the discs go into the cardboard pages themselves instead of plastic trays, much like the Avatar Extended Edition release and the Indiana Jones boxset. In contrast, the UK 2011 box uses 9 individual hard-plastic trays bound together by the outer cover instead.

Regarding the booklet, based on this unboxing I found of the 2015 "Darth Vader" UK version then it should be included. I can't imagine it would be any different for the 2015 US version.

Do all the UK Digi-book editions--with cardboard sleeve and Tatooine Luke/Anakin art--have the plastic, "page style" disc holders? Or are there scratch-causing, paper sleeve style sets in the mix?

As far as I know, the 2011 UK set always used the nine separate plastic trays. I've never seen it on Ebay UK with the US-style cardboard sleeve pages.

Only the commentaries, I think.

No, just the commentaries (and perhaps minor features). The longer documentaries and all that aren't replicated.

Very disappointing.

I don't understand why studios have a problem with releasing a complete package.

Pre-Disney Lucasfilm were dicks about retaining older bonus content on subsequent releases. It's why I still have the bonus disc from the prequel DVDs and the OT DVD sets (all in a replaced keepcase that holds the four bonus discs with the OT bonus disc cover art).

Dude, I've still got the six PT/OT DVDs in their entirety, along with the OT bonus disc in its own case. I've also put in some custom DVDs of features I've recorded from TV or other VHS/LD sets, like the Leonard Maltin interviews from the THX-remastered originals, the featurettes on the Special Editions and the various little bits and bobs from the Definitive Collection LD set.

But I hope that post-Disney LFL are much less precious about this stuff when they finally get around to releasing Star Wars under their own steam. I remember reading an interview with Rick McCallum about the eventual form that the Star Wars DVDs would take, he called it a "film school in a box" but it didn't exactly pan out that way. I wish they'd hire someone like Charlie de Lauzirika to put together a home video package that's truly "definitive" for these wonderful movies.

At least pre-Disney Lucasfilm didn't mess around with the deleted scenes. They were more generous with the amount of scenes they included and even completed some of them with CGI. The deleted scenes were presented clean - no border or time codes.

Because they don't want us flooding the secondary market with used copies that are no longer of any use to us. We have to keep whatever we already have in order to have everything. Makes good business sense.

Yeah, the deleted stuff for Phantom Menace was finished for the DVD (and some were put back into the movie anyway, leading to quite obvious drops in quality during the pod race on the Blu-ray edition) but they weren't so generous on Clones and Sith, as most of them are incomplete. The droid archive scene in Clones stands out, but that's because it was intended to be in the film and was only dropped after the scene had been fully finished.

Something similar can be said about the current Lucasfilm being stingy worthy bonus content at all

They used to give us decent extras along with those deleted scenes.

Shows the consumer doesn't have much sense though

That is a minor complaint when you consider that the extra features on the prequels were top notch.

The TFA release is good but the min making of feature is just too much fluff about how they are living the dream of being involved in Star Wars. I get it, I'm mad jealous - but we don't need to sold the idea that they love it - we've bought the blu-ray so obvious we love it to. Just tell us the interesting stuff of how it was made.

And Rogue One - Lucas would have put something substantial on the disc and not just Youtube promo videos.

All of these movies have documented in detail on video. Just show us.

Yeah, the features are excellent overall on the PT DVDs although the lack of a proper documentary for Clones and Sith (just ones focusing on certain aspects) was a lickle disappointing after The Beginning on Phantom Menace, which is one of the most candid 'making ofs' you're ever likely to see.
