^ Also, Bane himself gets some pretty good character-development in the books, and you really get to understand why he's doing what he does and where he's coming from, to an extent. He's not simply a cackling evil supervillain -- he has some rather interesting motivations, in fact, and you end up respecting him at the end of the day (despite the fact that he's trying to preserve the Sith Order, which has consequences across the movie trilogies).

Bane creating the Rule of Two is still canon according to The Clone Wars.

Right but the Bane stories are not. The only appearance of Bane in canon is a Yoda dream or hallucination

I really liked that scene, but I understand why it was cut since it takes away the impact of Jabba's Boogeyman prescence.
Eh? Seems like you quoted a post of mine from several days ago from a different thread, but it doesn’t have anything to do with that video...

The character of Darth Bane was created by George Lucas himself, and the novelization of The Phantom Menace also covers his backstory. StarWars.com discussed this:

But the events of Ruusan were still just ancient history until the Jedi vs. Sith comic. It consisted of six issues published monthly in 2001 from Dark Horse Comics. The fall-out from the battle continued in a short story titled "Bane of the Sith," published in Star Wars Gamer magazine #3 (2001, Wizards of the Coast), which dramatizes Darth Bane's arrival on Dxun. The character of Bane and his secret reformation of the Sith order actually come from George Lucas' backstory to Episode I.
The movie novelizations are still part of the new Disney canon, and Terry Brooks also talked about how Lucas came up with the character of Bane and gave it to him to use; at one point they had a very extensive telephone conversation on the entire history of the Jedi and Sith Orders where Bane's history was discussed at length.

Fine, movie novelizations are canon. I wasn't aware Bane appeared on Phantom Manace novel.

But my main point still stands, those Bane novels are not canon (regardless who created the character).

Wasn't Obi-Wan related to uncle Owen - brothers - in the RETURN OF THE JEDI novelisation?

Whenever somebody starts arguing cannon based on Disney buying the franchise I just think of kiba going "screw the rules I have money". I would rather go with what George Lucus the creator says is cannon and call Disney's stuff legends personally because I don't think Disney earned the right to decide what past works are cannon and what are not just by spending a lot of money.

I could be mistaken but I believe it was only in the screenplay and then cut out.

Except Lucas didn't create Legends stories nor did he ever officially declare them canon. There was much debate to that before Disney finally make the rules of what is canon. The Bane novels are no more canon than any of the Legends stories that feature George Lucas created characters from the Original Trilogy.

As mentioned, Darth Bane himself is canon as he is mentioned in 1 or 2 canon sources. But the novels that tell his full story, that's legends.

Yes, there are a few isolated things like that in the novelizations that clearly aren't canonical fact for one reason or another. Another one is a brief reference to multiple emperors in the ANH novelization. Or a blatant screwup in the ROTS novelization where it says Padme was the youngest Naboo queen ever elected, in defiance of AOTC.

The old EU was said to be canon before it wasn't. That was the whole point of decanonizing it. There was a canon hierarchy ( as opposed to a hierarchy of stuff that's all noncanon and thus not in fact a hierarchy ). There's always 'much debate to that' because fans like to insist they make the rules.

All of the Darth Bane books were in the George Lucas-endorsed canon prior to the Disney acquisition:

http://web.archive.org/web/200703190...om/holocron/33

And yup, after Disney bought out Lucas, they dismantled the previous canon-hierarchy, but that doesn't erase the fact that they were Lucas-canonical prior to 2014. Since the Bane novels were themselves based directly upon Lucas's own personal backstory of Darth Bane created for the prequel trilogy, it's highly likely that they won't be too contradicted in the larger, broad strokes going forward anyhow, if future creators wish to use the character in new projects, since the books were already quite consistent with the TPM novelization.

Keeping Expanded Universe canon would have too restrictive. Disney didn't want that and I think it was the right choice. They wanted to make their own movies. Also EU doesn't disappear anywhere. You can still enjoy them. I think it is a good thing that there are many versions of what happened after Return of the Jedi.

This is 100% true. Canon, non-canon... ultimately that is up to each individual if you get right down to it. If a person likes a particular story, then they can choose that. If a person thinks a certain story sucks, they can discard it and treat it as though it doesn't exist. And yes that includes disney's movies, you can ignore those as well. In fact- like it or not, one can easily make the case that their movies are nothing more than officially-licensed fan fiction. Not saying I have a horse in that race because I don't give a crap... but I can acknowledge that it is the truth.

I listened to the two versions of Obi-Wan’s Krayt Dragon call and the special edition version is atrocious. But the original one seems confusing because it starts off sounding like a siren. Does anyone here remember the first time they saw the movie and what they thought when hearing it? I can’t imagine anyone knew who or what made that sound. It’s given no context and I don’t believe it’s ever mentioned in any of the movies.

That would be Ben Burtt. Ironically, he's one of the best in film history.
