It still feels drawn out and not funny at all. It only succeeds in making General Hux and his people look like buffoons - zero sense of threat from the First Order.

I said it felt like ten minutes. I’m actually surprised it’s a minute, though. That is a long time for a joke that’s basically one line repeated over and over.

Default Star Wars New Disney Releases

Can anyone tell me if there are any differences between the new Disney releases and the old releases that were distributed by 20th century fox?

I googled the term and it was first used in 1974.

Funny because I was recently reading a book on the Allied advance in France 1944-45 and there was a long passage concerning a squad of GIs who came across some horses, in use by the German army, tied up in the middle of the battlefield. Their previous owners had left them there in the middle of a bombardment. Some of the horses were dead, the others were terribly injured and terrified. The GIs, or "hippies" as you would call them, were enraged and made it their mission, after caring for the horses as best they could, to identify any enemy soldiers they thought must have been part of the unit that left those animals tied up and unable to flee the battlefield.

Damned hippies. They had no place in that war.

Basically, that's inaccurate.

Quote:
Poe - This is Commander Poe Dameron of the Republic fleet. I have an urgent communique for General Hux.
Hux - Patch him through .This is General Hux of the First Order.
The Republic is no more your fleet are rebel scum and war criminals. Tell your precious princess. There will be no terms...there will be no surrender.
Poe - Hi, I'm holding for General Hux.
Hux - This is Hux. You and your friends are doomed! We will wipe your filth from the galaxy.
Poe - Okay; I'll hold.
Hux - Hello?
Poe - Hello? Yup. I'm still here.
Hux - Can you- can he hear me?
Poe - Hux?
Hux - He can?
Poe - With an 'H'? Skinny guy. Kinda pasty?
Hux - I can hear you. Can you hear me?
Poe - Look, I can't hold forever. If you reach him... Tell him Leia has an urgent message for him....
Richie - I believe he's tooling with you, sir.
Poe - About his mother.
Hux - Open fire!
Poe - BB-8, punch it!

Look we get it. You'd rather it wasn't in the movie. You didn't find it funny. You'd rather there was no humour at Hux's expense at that point of the film.

But is it necessary for folk to invent problems with it to enhance their position?

Invent? There are five lines from Poe in that dialogue exchange where he acts like he can’t hear Hux. That along with “Hugs” and the “mother” joke were pretty cringe-worthy. Perhaps it was possible to make a minute-long joke that was funny during that scene, but that wasn’t it. There were much better moments of comedy in the film like (in my opinion) Luke asking Rey if she can feel the Force and slapping her hand with the twig, or saying that Jakku is pretty much nowhere.

That's not "one line repeated over and over." The whole point of the one-sided telephone conversation gag is that one person persists with their side while the other tries in vain to interact. You could, if you were inclined, just as easily complain that the detention centre scene is just Han repeatedly trying to convince the guy on the other end that it's fine, we're all fine here, everything's fine now.

It's not hard to accept and understand that it was not funny to some people and therefore the correct length for the gag was zero seconds. And that they didn't appreciate the "Hugs" and "message...for his mother" parts of the gag and so they make it worse and not better.

Or that someone can find some humour funny and some humour not as funny. In that situation, they're more likely to cringe than to smile.

Got it.

It just doesn't need all the embellishments and spurious criteria that people create to enhance their position on not finding it funny. And people pointing this out does not mean you have to like it or laugh at it. That is all.

Yes! Get with the program.

Professor Hardback has a PhD in all things Star Wars and has spent years and years of study and can enlighten you on all the sub-textual, deeper meanings of TLJ that your unenlightened mind cannot grasp. TLJ is a cinematic classic of the highest order written and directed by a genius of a director.

AFAIK

Disc art different.

No longer has the Fox ident or fanfare, same as all digital versions.

I don't think they include the two audio commentaries anymore.

The discs are identical to the 2011 versions, including the Fox fanfare and features. The only difference is the disc art.

After a single release of The Rise of Skywalker, I'm sure there will be a new box-set with all 9 movies, including a variety of enticing elements.

If one reads the tea leaves, you can see something massive coming. There have been hints of the original theatrical releases coming and hints that they won't. I shall not cite sources since this is the internets and I am lazy. The original trilogy has been remastered. You saw some of it in Rogue One. A nine film box set has been mentioned. Everybody knows people want it, and we all know Mickey likes money. It was probably in that contract and discussed at the Brown Derby restaurant. There really are only two things that bother me, and it is not 'get off of my lawn' stuff: Jabba looks like a turd in New Hope and I dislike the song in his palace.

When I watch the prequels, I'm aware of all their shortcomings: Jar-Jar, wooden acting, cringe-worthy dialogue, etc. But when I think about them, it's mostly positive. I like the characters and stories.

It's the opposite with TLJ: When I watch it, I enjoy it overall, mostly because of the visuals, Old Man Luke, and the entire throne room sequence. But when I think about it, I can't get over the negative stuff: Yo momma jokes, the abrasive Holdo and D.J., Canto Bight, and (while spectacular) how the Holdo maneuver breaks Star Wars.

So overall, I tend to rank it ahead of TPM and AotC, but behind all the other films.

I won't say I'm a Rose fan (she falls into the "it's fine" category for me). But she's not a popular character. I heard there was a #WheresRose thing going around, because on Force Friday, she was absent from merch. But a common thumbnail for Rose hate videos is stacks of unsold Rose figures. It will be interesting to see how much she's in TRoS, whether or not they drastically reduce her role like they did with Jar-Jar after TPM.

I've seen these contradictions several times. Maybe only people w/ all the discs in hand should comment, to stop spreading inaccurate information.
