Another thing this made me think. Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t this mean the Greedo scene is the only scene in every release since 1997 to have continuous changes made??? No wonder it’s such an infamous change.

It was a memorable scene to start with, if it was just Cg rocks it would have been less controversial

Of all the tweaks that Lucas has done to this scene (as mentioned, it keeps getting altered with each new version) I actually like this one as it gives it a different rhythm now. The problem is that it was originally deliberately paced for Han to just roast him after saying "I'll bet you have" that all the other little added jiggles and making them shoot at the same time etc still didn't fit that rhythm, but now it's like Greedo's uttering the last word before shooting him and it doesn't seem so abrupt.

YES I KNOW IT SHOULD JUST HAVE BEEN LEFT ALONE, before I get the usual pushback, I'm just saying that as far as this actual altered version is concerned - and let's be honest, Lucas ain't gonna un-**** it any time soon - then it's the version I like the most thus far.

He must've been a gymnast when he was younger before rebelling against his maker and running off to join the alliance.

He's not wrong though, Lucas has literally altered it further with every single post-97 revision (2004, 2011, now the 4K's) which only draws yet more attention back to it and gets people riled up all over again. Like, say, now for example: we're only talking about it because it's been changed yet again.

As for the rocks, they would never have shot first. Far too slow, they are.

Yeah apart from Greedo's shot missing Han's head by inches, which looks lame, it does look much better edited like this.

So used to the "cold hearted" Han, shoot first policy in the Theatrical Cut, I'd forgotten how this scene plays out in the newer versions

That's what I mean, it just breaks it up a bit and makes it seem like Greedo's actually going to shoot him, perhaps he's saying 'goodbye' or whatever in a sarky way. It's still incredibly stupid that a bounty hunter could miss his target from three feet away etc etc but with that major caveat out of the way I think this latest revision actually works a lot better than the previous ones.

I'm betting everything that these are the 3D / 4K Versions Lucas was working on in 2012 before he sold to Disney. With the last round of changes he did then. I don't think these are Disney changes. I'm with Geoff on this one, the scene has a different rhythm now and kinda works a little bit better then what came before.

Man i'm so happy see decent / original / filmic colors again. God i hated the blu-ray colors and was so tired of looking at them. Still it's sadly doesnt look like true 4k resolution.

I hope it doesnt look this way on Blu-ray / UHD!

Even the shortening of Greedo hitting the table works better for the revised scene IMO, it was so plainly comedic before ("I'll bet you have", KERPOW, *thud*) that leaving as it was just didn't 'fit' the revised scene in terms of tone but now there's much less emphasis on it.

I shall. Because they have more than enough cash to give us the original theatrical versions in 4K Dolby Vision. The versions the majority of people want.

Unless Lucas ensured they can't do that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a mandate of his contract/agreement/whatever that Disney can’t release any “alternate” (original) cuts of the original films, because he really seems to care a great deal about it. But who knows.

Hey, what about the terrible 2004/2011 soundmix? Did they fixed it?
Also, could someone take screenshots for comparisons?

We will find out soon enough. Possibly if they put the original theatricals as well on + . Or they come to physical first.

You're not getting the theatricals while Lucas is still alive IMO. Let it go, Indiana.

Does that mean the added close-up of Greedo occurs for exact same length of time that the removed Greedo dummy footage did?

That’s all fine and dandy, but why didn’t George add this close-up back in 2004? Why do some of these ideas that could’ve been achieved early on take years and years and years?

I've been saying we'll get the UOT in 2020 or never. Doesn't look like 2020's happening, so....

Why did he change ANY of it from what it was back in 1977? Why did he change the prequels in varying ways since their theatrical releases? Rhetorical questions as Lucas is a habitual tinkerer just like Michael Mann, they can't not see X movie with their current viewpoint rather than let it exist as it was. Every single time they go back they see something else they can fiddle with.
