He prefers Thomas The Tank Engine over Casablanca and The Godfather.

Yea, he has quite a few doozies to go along with some of his great ones, however that last one of Alderaan going up, was just a test along with another fans addition and never made it into his final fan-edit.

BTW-

Since the pricing is great for upcoming sets, I went ahead and pre-ordered the complete BD set even though the only extra that I would be really interested in would be a cardless isolated soundtrack.

Who would have thunk it?

Not exactly what I meant by that...

I meant that if it came down to being forced to watch Casablanca or Thomas The Tank-Engine, I would go with the lesser of two evils. I have had to stomache through watching it before, due to little kids in the family. So it's easy to switch the old brain off, and not have to deal with it. I can't stand watching Casablanca or Godfather. Godfather or Godfather II especially. Just not my type of flicks.

Lucas should take cues from his pals Coppola (Apocalypse Now) and Spielberg (CET3K)and give fans the option of both the originals and the special editions in one set. Lucas has the ability to end this destructive conflict and bring order to the fanbase.

Eh. They'll just find something else to complain about. The fandom can be a scary place at times.

I'm not sure if I'm interpreting this properly, but it sounds like Lucas plans to do it eventually, it's just not a high priority for him.

See this recent article (Aug 2010, around the time there were first concrete rumblings about Star Wars coming to Blu-ray in late 2011):
Code:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/16/movies/16lucas.html
(sorry for using the code tag instead of url, but the url keeps getting messed up when I do that for some reason. Just copy and paste.)

At the end: “We’ve been working on them for quite a while,” Mr. Lucas said, “but still, there are pipelines. Unfortunately, the recent releases get priority over what we call the classic versions of things.”

The exact question he is responding to is not mentioned so there is some issue of context. But I can't imagine what else "classic versions of things" could refer to. If this was meant how I interpret it, it's definitely a good sign - it makes it look like Lucas is open to it and there are just practical issues in the way, versus previous comments that made him seem staunchly against it.

I am only interested in the original (non SE) films, which I already have on VHS and DVD. I will upgrade my collection only if a Blu-ray release contains the unedited originals, otherwise I will be content with what I have (until Lucas dies and the studios release everything in order to make more money).

I've covered it before... but I'll expand upon it:

I actually prefer the prequels over the originals myself. And yes, I saw the originals in the 70's/80's.

The OT focused on a few characters and the struggle against the Empire.

I really loved the PT for expanding things, showing us a much larger picture of the Star Wars Universe. Seeing how things like the Senate and Jedi Order operated. Seeing the Universe "Before the Dark Times, Before the Empire". It just really expanded the Universe into a larger more fleshed out reality. Plus I thought the story was more rich and compelling also. There was a lot more going on. It just really satisfied everything I wanted.
So basically Episode I delivered pretty much everything I wanted in a Star Wars film after so many many years of waiting. It's pretty much the perfect Star Wars film, as it does such a good job of setting up the Universe and the characters. A much better job than A New Hope does. But that's due to the fact that A New Hope was structured as a standalone movie for the most part. It just shows a larger more interesting view of the Star Wars Universe. It also has the most interesting and intricate plot of the entire Saga. About the only weak part of the film for me is Darth Maul, but thankfully he only takes up a small part of the running time. And dies at the end, saving us from future chapters featuring him. Plus we see the beginning rise of Senator Palpatine becoming the all powerful Emperor from the final chapter in the Saga, which is one of the best plot threads of the PT. Are there a few weak moments here and there? Sure. But that is true of any of the films in the series. For the most part it gets things right more often that it gets things wrong.

Darth Maul was a solid fighter but not really established as a character, I think the PT would've been better if they had figured out a way for Tyranus to be the villain the whole time until Anakin slices off Windu's arm.

Default Star Wars Special Edition/Limited Edition Blu Ray Sets

Does anyone know if there will be an "special edition" blu ray sets in the US or other countries that will offer more than what has already been released? For example BTTF has a delorean edition in the UK. If you have heard anything please let me know.

Thanks.
