No, you're right. It's definitely doable. LOTR is a little more complex because of the amount of changed material and the editing. These films would seemingly be a lot easier as a lot of the changes are cosmetic (e.g addition of CG elements to a scene) so they are not quite so much of an issue. Others have extended bits and pieces, but as you say the additional run time that would amount to would be minimal in terms of additional space on the disc.

I'm not entirely convinced seamless branching would work because of the amount of things(little visual touches) that have been changed, even if the exact frames are the same.

I mean, from frame to frame, it would be the same but the visual cues within those frames would be totally different. You'd essentially have to put almost two versions of the film on one disc because of the amount of changes he's made with the first film.

With Empire and Jedi, I think seamless branching would work easily because, in those films, he didn't change has much.

Episode IV would be too complicated.

I'd definately recommend getting it, not just for these movies but for your existing BRs & dvds. A very worthy investment.

In fact, if you have space I'd suggest going for the 7.1 (especially if you have disney blus), but just for better future proofing.

(I have a 5.1 set-up, but if had the proper space I would have gone for the 7.1).

Yeah, Lucas is so evil. He has his own opinion!
Oh my gosh, he should be slaughtered like an animal for that.

And he forced you poor fanboys to buy everything related to SW!

Oh, and he raped your childhood, and adulthood!

To sum it up: He is easily the most evil man who has ever lived on this earth!

I asked my kids to "rate" the SW movies and my 11 year old son said he only likes the Prequels???

I asked him why - he said the OT has all those "old guys" (Obi is old, etc) but the Prequels have Obi-wan and Anakin. Interesting perspective. If you think about it -with the Clone Wars adding to the story - there is much more on "film" about Anakin (and Obi-wan) than Luke now.

By the way - we are watching Clone Wars season 2 on blu-ray - I must say - they really went all out on that - it's awesome for a cartoon TV show. I'm amazed at the detail.

Here's to 3 more SW movies (hopefully). I'd love to see some Old Republic or the story of Yoda as a apprentice (George - are you listening???).

The issue is as like Jumpman said, there's minute changes in pretty much every shot of the films. Especially in ANH.

Even the star fields and wipes were redone for the SEs. There's a comparison of changes numerous pages back.

It just wouldn't work to be seamless branched, simply due to the sheer ammount of changes that most don't even notice.

Interesting - my daughters(8 and 11) like them all but seem to get into the prequels more than the OT. Not surprising, I guess.

I'm really glad that I just enjoy the original 3..... "Enjoy" them..... Because it appears if you "Love" these movies (any/all of the 6) , then you're bound by some code of honor to never be happy.....

Was there a star added? Did the X-Wing take a right turn instead of a Left? Did they re-use a shot?

Ahhhh who cares Queue the Imperial March!!!!!!

I don't know what it is about "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" that causes people to love the films so much that they look for faults, and find them to display like trophies.... I don't watch my favorite films frame-by-frame looking for errors..... Then the entire debate on technology and realism.... It's a SCI-FI movie The FI is FICTION!

I guess once you make the jump from "Fan" to "Guy dressed up in a funny costume in a convention center in Skaneateles, NY waiting in line to get an autograph from the 'sexy' alien-being who had 7.23 seconds of screen time, and is now a waitress at Denny's" things can get a bit out of perspective.....

Agreed. The comments about "ruining" my childhood are the funniest. Its like dude - your childhood already happened...the cleaned up shots cant ruin it. Hilarious. Then, the nitpicky stuff starts. I fully understand that there are some dodgy things in the films but I dont care at all. All6 films are the best thing ever...... PERIOD!

Well, easy to do V and VI then, but still not so costly to just have to restore the Original Star Wars. (ep. IV, ANH). They could easily give us V and VI on one disc (each), and probably 2 versions of IV on a single disc, with or without seamless. Aren't 3D movies basically 2 movies on a single disc. Most of those get great PQ in reviews.

I'm not sure what you're talking about (and it's nothing personal, I just can't follow the conversation too well, because it's too deep into details, and I'm not familiar enough with the films to follow it, despite seeing the originals about 10 times each)

But.....

I think in terms of restoration, or whatever processes/version/etc.. be used, The market for the films in any form is there.... so "cost" probably has virtually nothing to do with what they do/don't do for the set......

The obviously won't use solid gold cases, but any extras etc. that aren't included, will be excluded because they don't feel they are important.... not because it would be too costly to make it a "10" disc set, for instance.....

I just think "cost" is a non-factor with these.... and the fact that street-price is already so low (heck, $15 each for the OT???!!!!) is amazing....

If they put out JUST ONE of the trilogies initially (for instance) without the extras etc.... with a "planned" roll-out for more editions etc... (think LOTR and theatrical/EE etc) People would still pay $60 for the trilogy and say "heck, I want the other/better/etc.... but it still comes down to $20 a movie, which isn't that bad"

I'd buy the OT for $60, and I'm not a die-hard fan

If I could go back in time and either kill Hitler or Lucas, I'd kill Lucas in 1984.

While the unaltered version may have merit for certain scenes like Han shooting Greedo first, I don't really see much appeal. The space battles are extremely unrealistic in the original. I'd rather see a version where the fixed all the good stuff back the way it was (wishful thinking) and kept the cool new space battles shots.

Hahaha. I was kidding, meant no offense. Looking forward to this release, just wish there was some way to get the unaltered original trilogy on blu some way. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to September

Or..........

They could just do what was done for the magnificent 'Blade Runner' set, where seamlessly branching was not even an issue.
