If I'm showing the films to someone who hasn't seen them, 1-6 the way it was intended.
If I decide to do a marathon, 1-6 although, would have to play Sith again after Jedi. The best gets a double spin. |

I suggest chronological order. I know that watching it that way the Luke/Leia/Vader relationship is spoiled. The know that Yoda is Yoda.
Watching th OT first is the reason we didn't like the PT. There are more things revealed that way: We knew that Senator Palpatine would become the Emperor, we didn't knew when. When Obi-Wan is fighting Maul, Fett, Dooku, Dooku again, Grievous and Anakin we knew he wouldn't die. All of the characters that weren't in the OT had to die somehow and those that died in the OT, well nothing bad couldn't happen to them. |

Watching the prequels first, you lose the Vader twist, but now in its defense, you gain the excitement of not knowing whats going to happen during the prequels. Those who have seen 4-6 know Obi lives, etc, so tense scenes (Dooku duel in 2) will have less impact. Especially in 3 when even major characters like Mace aren't safe, things become more dire.

I do like the idea of going 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. I think I might just do that... Because ROTJ is perfect as an ending and the PT serves as a flashback and doesn't spoil anything at all. But by the time you get to Episode VI, you've probably forgot what happened at the end of V...

Hmmm...
4,5,1,2,3,6 - very interesting indeed. Thanks for all the input on this. OT First (or above order)- spoils that Obi Dies in 4 and not earlier - you know (for the most part) Anakin's destiny PT First - spoils the whole Vader/Father thing as well as the true identity of Luke and Leia. I think 1-6 order kills a big part of Luke's story as, if you watch 4 first, then you are the journey with him. Very interesting comments about a recut of all six epidoses - jumping back and forth. Might be worth Lucas's time and effects power house to re-tell the story in one cohesive push. Kill off some of the useless scenes and characters (JaJa, Ewoks, Podracing, etc) and as someone stated above, cut it into one fluid picture with flashbacks to tell the story of Anakin/Vader WHILE you are telling the rest of the story. If everything is being remastered in Blu, it seems that you could make a pretty even picture anyway.... Wonder if this has already been discussed in a SW forum? |

- Knowing Darth vader is Lukes Dad and Leia & Luke being related ahead of time sort of kills some of the intrigue of A New Hope and much of Empire Strikes back. It also takes away from th Han/Luke/Leia love struggle. Think about it. You know Luke and Leis wont be an item so Han gets her. I like the back and forth and wondering which guy she'll be with. - Its easier to go from the OT to the PT rather than start with the high-tech worlds of the PT and then you go into A New Hope. The "feeling" isnt right, IMO. - The films were released in the order I believe the creator(Goergie) wants us to view them. Of course there really is no right or wrong way - do whatever works. I'll stick with the OT followed by the PT. Last edited by s2mikey; 01-31-2011 at 02:06 PM. |

Showing them to someone for the first time I would go this way :
4 - 5 - 6 - 1 - 2 -3 the reason being that I would want to keep the big surprise of five a surprise. I am sure most fans think that by now everyone know's the big surprise but you would be surprise how many do not. My wife before meeting me had never seen Star Wars and had no idea who Darth Vader was or what Star Wars was about. So the first time she saw them with me I went the theatrical release route for her. If I watch them by myself or with anyone who as seen them before I go : 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 But I do like this order as well : 4 - 5 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 6 and I might try that on my next viewing. |

There are no known plans for the X-Files TV series coming to Blu-Ray that I am aware of. If any plans (even fairly credible rumors) were to surface, I'm sure they'd either be posted on the news page here or at least a thread would pop up with the info.
Right now the only thing X-Files related on Blu-Ray are the two movies. I don't understand your comparing releasing Star Wars on Blu-Ray to the X-Files. While they both fall somewhere within the realm of science-fiction, both are about as different as can be. In addition to being completely different types of Sci-Fi, Star Wars is a series of 6 movies while the X-Files is a 9-season TV show. You are comparing apples to cinder blocks here. |

The problem with The X-Files is that it's source video may not be of high enough quality to warrant an upgrade. There's a discussion on one of the amazon.co.uk forums were we debate this. Plus in the UK you can get the DVD set for 50-60 pounds. The BD set would cost hundreds if released. If a series was shot on film or HD there is a good chance that it will be remastered for BD otherwise it may not be worth the upgrade, either it would be to expensive to us the consumer or the studios doing the transfer.
Off topic, back to Star Wars.... |
