Actually, since the inspiration for these films came from those old 'Flash Gordon'/Buck Rogers' serials from way back, there is a very good possibility that they will ALL be in black and white, since that was what he originally intended. |

You heard wrong! He is being inserted over [Show spoiler] in ALL THREE of the films.Since that is originally what he wanted in the first place but the technology just wasn't available to do it right. |

There was talk of it for a while. With a young orphaned Han Solo being with Chewbacca in RotS.

It's going to be interesting (hopefully not in a bad way) how these movies turn out on blu ray. Lucas has to know that whatever visual problems may persist are going to REALLY stand out at 1080p. |

![]() Yeah, old visuals look really bad in HD. But that's just the way it works, I guess. If someone says, "Hey this movie looks like crap," just say, "calm down bro, it's 1977." |

You know what would be kinda cool...
instead of making the reproduction of the famous opening shot from 'A New Hope' that was shown on Special Effects: Anything Can Happen (1996)(thanks to PeterTHX for that bit of info) a separate extra, maybe he can either replace or incorporate it into the Blu-ray movie using seamless branching. So, what are your guys opinions on him replacing the original footage to the reproduced one from that documentary? . Last edited by Duffy12; 02-12-2011 at 01:20 AM. |

2001 (68), Close Encounters (77), Blade Runner (82) all look extremely good in HD. People tend to forget that HD isn't the most detail we've ever seen...it's the most detail we've ever seen at home. Films that looked great in theaters don't have anything to fear from HD. |

While I like anything Star Wars-related, I really just like the original films as they were made. Could the effects be better? Of course. He could make each and every shot better. The acting could've been better. The directing could've been better. There comes a point when it's time to let it go, though.

2) That said, it's so far away from release, I bet LucasFilm will up the allotments so they can make a big first-week splash. |

They are airing on TV. And, even in compressed, digital-cable versions...the FX...well...they stand out. And this is the SE's. Sort of like a lot of them do in the BTTF set (most noticeably the flying vehicle shots). That's no comment on the transfer nor the compression, simply that the visual effects do not look quite the same when scanned at HD resolution. Yes, the "big screen" is bigger, but film just has a different quality...I'm sure someone can technically explain it but when something is digitally scanned and presented at this resolution (even though film resolution is far higher) the inherent flaws are more obvious. I'll be very curious to see what changes the "2011 versions" will have. If they haven't corrected some of these issues, then there will be a lot of complaining and moaning about it (not that there won't be anyway, LOL), but I think people will be surprised at this once they see them in HD (I know I was, and I've seen these films 100's of times before). I actually was quite pleased with the HD broadcast versions (I have them saved bit for bit on my TiVo) but unless they made major changes before these new transfers, I think there will definitely be some surprise about how the F/X hold up, and how some don't as much. |
