It'll be great to have these in HD, but no matter how pretty it looks the original Star Wars will send me to sleep. The movie slows right down after that explosive opening and it gets me snoozing every time. I love the film to bits, but I think I'm so familiar with it that my brain has now decided to edit out the boring stuff. Doesn't happen with any of the other SW flicks - not even Clones, sadly.

Maybe not the day I get them, because that's usually 2:30p.m, but very likely the next morning!

Oh yes? Maybe I am bad at math, but please do count the shots that look better versus the shots that look versus and tell me the outcome!

Who can post those shot by shot comparison pics of ANH, TESB and ROTJ here?
I believe it was on Picasa, but I can't find them.

Isn't that subjective? For some, the CG extensions on Tatooine and Hoth are improvements on the original effects, and for others, the CG looks badly out of place in movies made in 1977 and 1980. It's all about preference that this entire argument came about in the first place. It's also why Lucas refuses to release one version of the movies, because he simply prefers the newer versions. No matter what anyone else, who might prefer the original versions, want. Sure, he has the right to. But just because you can, doesn't mean you should. That's also the main complaint against the Special Editions.

The funny thing is, there was a large group of people who preferred New Coke. Because it tastes more like Pepsi.

Funny how Lucas isn't allowed to tinker with his films. But you guys support illegal fan edits.

I"m definitely doing OT then PT so my kids can get the shock of Darth Vader saying "I am your father." That's such a powerful moment and I don't want to rob it from them by showing them Anakin's story first.

One of the things people don't often think about is that it isn't entirely about the HD transfers or the films themselves, but sometimes the bonus features. Even if somebody doesn't want either the prequels or the recent changes to the originals, then they might get it just to finally see some of the famous deleted footage, like the sandstorm from ROTJ, or a new, more extensive documentary.

Many of the space shots look better, but you are missing the point entirely. Or ignoring it all together.

Ok, yes, that droid looks nice and shiny when he hits that other droid for being taunted. But the moment sucks! It is way too goofy.

And the Jabba scene. Completely redundant. A perfect example of poor story composition.

Greedo scene: we learn that Han has a price on his head. Even he gets boarded sometimes. And if he doesn't pay Jabba the money he owes, he will be in serious trouble.

Jabba scene: We learn that Han still owes Jabba some money, and that if he doesn't pay up , he will be in serious trouble. And, yeah, even he gets boarded sometimes.

If you cut the Jabba scene, you lose one small detail, that Han basically haggled Jabba for more time. But that doesn't add much. And yes, I know, the Greedo scene played out a bit differently before they cut the Jabba scene. When they went to reshoot it, they added a few lines of information. But now, that second scene doesn't work at all.

And stepping on the tail. Dumb! Yes, Lucas followers, it is was his vision, but it sucks! 8 years old love it. I find it strange that a grown up would. It's sort of like a 45 year old watching Spongebob and actually enjoying it

Even more dumb. A bounty hunter, one of Jabba's goons, can't hit a target barely two to three feet away from him. Retarded!

That is what is wrong with a lot of the changes.

There are some great improvements with the effects, like the Death Star attack, the Wampa, and when the Falcon leaves Mos Eisley. But the silly, stupid, retarded moments are not improvements.

If he did something along the lines of what they did with Blade Runner a few years back or even what he did with THX 1138 years back, I would be happy with it. With those examples, the alterations help tell the story, not stop it for a few seconds to show a droid pissing off another droid or to show a pointless deleted scene with Luke running into Biggs prior to the Death Star attack or to completely stop the pacing of a getaway sequence in Empire to suddenly cut to a scene intended for ROTJ, with a nasty sound glitch included.

Default Regarding EP 7-9

I remember back in 2005 Lucas made an announcement that he would not be doing anymore Episodes.

BUT

There was a report/rumor that Lucas made everyone sign a confidentiality agreement barring them from discussing anything that had to do with EP 7-9.

I also remember in an interview Mark Hamill did he was asked if Lucas said anything about future movies and, he said that Lucas told him that IF he were to do it that he would only need him for a cameo appearance in EP 9.

Now if that is the case than what? would the story line be if Luke is not in them.

Lucas also said that the Skywalker storyline was finished with the completion of EP3 and that future Episodes if any would focus on something entirely different.

So i think probably in 2012 we SHOULD get some kind of announcement about EP7-9.

So does this mean that Lucas is going to destroy the EU? Great. Now there'll be countless rants about how Lucas violated fanboys' second childhood.

Default ????what if????

What if Lucas does do another 3 movies he could go in 1 of 2 directions:

He could make them take place after ROTJ to show the republic still trying to put the pieces back together and maybe show that Vader was not the only apprentice that Palpatine had??

OR

He could make them take place pre episode 1. where he could show Palpatine being trained and possibly show the beginnings of mauls training and maybe show the last of the old sith wiped out by the jedi and show the start of Bane's rule of two. in case if that happens than the Episodes would be switched up:
(Ep 1-3) would become (EP4-6)and(EP4-6) would become (EP7-9).

OR

He could make the new Episodes take Place between The PT and the OT by showing Vader hunting down and murdering the jedi and show his relationship with The emperor and also show Kenobi going on secret missions trying to protect stray jedi's from the empire.if that becomes the case then:
(EP1-3) stay the same. while (EP4-6) become (EP7-9).

Just boggles the mind doesn't it

I really hope further improvements will be made and a whole new Special Edition of the Saga will be put on Bluray and into cinemas in the coming years. Unfortunately the last thing I heard was John Knoll saying that no further changes will be made... Does anyone know how likely it is that effects will be further enhanced? Bluyoda maybe?

I believe (I may be wrong) that the next TV series takes place between III & IV, so that would be out. I also doubt that GL would go back for another round of prequels. The Palpatine story could be a very good one, but I just don't see that happening. Besides, if he'd planned it that way, the films we have now would be numbered 4-9 rather than 1-6.

My guess would be the next series would be after Return of the Jedi, focusing on the rebuilding of the Jedi order & the political system. I don't know how much of the EU, even that which GL says can be considered canon (like Mara Jade), would be taken into consideration. I've stated this before, but I used to know a guy who was related to GL (through marriage) who had told me things that ended up correct. He said the nine films end with Artoo & Threepio being dug up in the desert (on Earth). As for the story line, he didn't now much. He actually never did, he just knew endings (Vader being Luke's Father, Ben defeating Vader at a lava pool, Vader turning on Palpatine). Anyway, that points to a post RotJ stroy as well, since the droids haven't yet been permanently left in the sand on Earth. That's assuming Don was correct and GL hasn't changed the story. Personally, I'd like to see a combination of the Thrawn & Jedi Academy trilogies.

That ending sounds amazing. Very Spielberg-like. And we haven't seen Earth yet in any of the Episodes, so that could be very cool. It's certainly piqued my interest.

Mentioning Spielberg... He (GL) could use that to tie in with all the Star Wars references in the Indiana Jones series. Especially the one where Artoo & Threepio are seen in the hieroglyphics (Raiders). Now that I think about it, it was a couple of years before Raiders that Don told me about the droids in the desert thing. Funny how it kind of ties together. In all honesty, I don't see GL tying the series' together in any concrete way, but the fans are another story...

I forgot to mention, he also said that the droids being dug up on Earth was the main reason behind the A Long Time Ago opening.

Now I am starting to wonder if any part of the story takes place on Earth or if the droids just crash here? The only other thing I do remember (I'm not even sure if this came from Don or somewhere else) is that the only characters in every episode are the droids. While the main focus of the story so far has been the Skywalker boys (mainly Anakin), the real story is actually that of the droids. I'd bet, if the desert thing is true, that the nine episodes are actually (in good part) the droids' memories being read.
