Hey, just to stir the pot a bit - not like this thread needs it - but is anyone else familiar with the Gone With the Wind/Empire Strikes Back plagiarism accusations?

Excerpt from Gone With the Wind
by Margaret Mitchell

“What luck,” he said softly, “to find you alone.”
Something in his voice made her heart beat pleasantly faster and she felt her face flush. She laughed nervously in pleasant anticipation.
“Don’t giggle,” he said, and taking her hand, he turned it over and pressed his lips into the palm. His lips traveled to her wrist and she knew he must feel the leap of her pulse as her heart quickened and she tried to draw back her hand.

He laughed softly.

“Don’t pull away! I won’t hurt you!”

“Hurt me? I’m not afraid of you, Rhett Butler, or of any man in shoe leather!” she cried, furious that her voice shook as well as her hands.

“An admirable sentiment, but do lower your voice. Mrs. Wilkes might hear you. And pray compose yourself.” He sounded as though delighted at her flurry.

“Scarlett, you do like me, don’t you?”

That was more like what she was expecting.

“Well, sometimes,” she answered cautiously. “When you aren’t acting like a varmint.”

He laughed again and held the palm of her hand against his hard cheek.

“I think you like me because I am a varmint. You’ve known so few dyed-in-the-wool varmints in your sheltered life that my very difference holds a quaint charm for you.”

This was not the turn she had anticipated and she tried again without success to pull her hand free.

“That’s not true! I like nice men—men you can depend on to always be gentlemanly.”

“You mean men you can always bully. It’s merely a matter of definition. But no matter.”

He kissed her palm again, and again the skin on the back of her neck crawled excitingly.

“But you do like me. Could you ever love me, Scarlett?”

Excerpt from The Empire Strikes Back
by Lawrence Kasdan

INT. MILLENNIUM FALCON
Leia finishes welding the valves she has been working on and attempts to reengage the system by pulling a lever attached to the
valve. It doesn't budge. Han notices her struggle, and moves to help her. She rebuffs him.

HAN
Hey, Your Worship, I'm only trying to help.

LEIA
(still struggling)
Would you please stop calling me that?

Han hears a new tone in her voice. He watches her pull on the lever.

HAN
Sure, Leia.

LEIA
Oh, you make it so difficult sometimes.

HAN
I do, I really do. You could be a little nicer, though. Come on, admit it. Sometimes you think I'm all right.

She lets go of the lever and rubs her sore hand.

LEIA
Occasionally, maybe...when you aren't acting like a scoundrel.

HAN
Scoundrel? Scoundrel? I like the sound of that.

With that, Han takes her hand and starts to massage it.

LEIA
Stop that.

HAN
Stop what?

LEIA
Stop that! My hands are dirty.

HAN
My hands are dirty, too. What are you afraid of?

LEIA
Afraid?

Han looks at her with a piercing look. He's never looked more handsome, more dashing, more confident. He reaches out slowly and takes Leia's hand again from where it is resting on a console. He draws it toward him.

HAN
You're trembling.

LEIA
I'm not trembling.

Then with an irresistible combination of physical strength and emotional power, the space pirate begins to draw Leia toward
him...very slowly.

HAN
You like me because I'm a scoundrel. There aren't enough scoundrels in your life.

Leia is now very close to Han and as she speaks, her voice becomes an excited whisper,
a tone completely in opposition to her words.

LEIA
I happen to like nice men.

HAN
I'm a nice man.

LEIA
No, you're not. You're...

He kisses her.

Han Solo: [cutting open his dead Tauntaun and shoving Luke inside] This may smell bad, kid, but it'll keep you warm until I get the shelter up... Ugh. And I thought they smelled bad on the *outside*.

I dont know if anyones brought this up but I was watching the Clone Wars season 2 special features on the Mandalorians and they showed scenes from ESB where Vader was talking to the bounty hunters on the Death Star, and man it was CRYSTAL clear. You could count the scratches on Boba Fetts armour! I am ready for these blu's!!!

New Boba footage possible....

He was swallowed by the Sarlacc after Han accidentally activated his jetback. According to the expanded universe, which is considered canon by some, he managed to "blast" his way out from under the sand. However, the scene was originally written to be his death scene and for the purposes of the film, he's as dead as a doornail or will be after 1000 years of slow digestion.

George Lucas actually stated on the audio commentary on the DVD that he regretted Boba Fett's fate, as he learned only after the movie how popular a cult figure the bounty hunter had become in the years between Empire and Jedi. Had Lucas known that when writing Return of the Jedi's screenplay, he would have given Fett a more heroic exit. It is possible that the upcoming blu-ray release will include a new scene of Boba Fett blasting his way out of the Sarlaac pit, as George Lucas has announced that the release will include new footage.

Lucas has never said ROTJ will include new footage. He's restored DELETED SCENES, but is not putting them back into the film. No, there will not be a new Boba Fett death scene, or escape.

@Ernest Rister: (referring to the "Gone with the Wind" Post)

Good Post, although it´s nothing new Lucas pays homage to dozens of cinema and film influences. And it´s part of what makes the Saga so brilliant. He never made a big deal out of it and it isn´t plagiarism either... other influences would be the General, Seven Chances, the Navigator, Forbidden Planet, Yojimbo, the hidden Fortress, Seven Samurai, Buck Rogers (Serial), Flash Gordon (Serial), the Searchers, Gunga Din, etc ....

It is possible that some new Boba Fett/Stormtrooper scenes will be included into the Saga on blu-ray. A german site posted that a polish actor who did the dubbed voice of Jango/Boba/Troopers has stated in an interview that he actually did some dubbing for the polish dubbed blu-ray versions. The same thing has been said about the german version...

Although it is more likely that Boba Fett will finally be given the same voice as Jango on these dubbed versions (it has not been done in the dubbed versions) it is also possible that there are actually new scenes ...

I wish Lucasfilm told us more about the versions put on blu-ray.

Doubtful. He regretted it because of how popular he became. But to Lucas, Boba Fett died in Return of the Jedi.

Any reliable source for this? A link, perhaps?

Favorite lines:

Han Solo: "Thank you. Thank you very much!"

Darth Vader: "Don't fail me again... Admiral." "I Find your lack of faith disturbing." "Bring my shuttle." "Your powers are weak, old man." "The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am." "You underestimate the power of the dark side. If you will not fight, then you shall meet your destiny!"

Least favorite lines:
Lot Dodd: "Are you brain dead?"
Qui-Gon Jinn: "Are you brainless?" (Maybe these were criticisms by George Lucas' former "No-men" when he showed them early drafts of Episode I.)

Padme: "Many things will change when we reach the Capital, Anni, but my caring for you will not."
Anakin: "I care for you, too, but..."
Padme: "You miss your mother." (I want to scratch out my own eyes every time I hear this exchange)

Boss Nass: "Wesa no CARRRRRRRin' about da NaBOO! Dey tink dey so SMART-ay. Dey tink dey brains-a so BEEG."

The line I can't stand:

Obi-Wan Kenobi: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." (Um, that statement is an absolute, IDIOT! No wonder the Jedi were wiped out with stupidity like that allowed to run rampant.)

Okay another couple lines I love to hate:

Queen Amidala: "Our people are dying, Senator. We muzDOO something, quickly."

Jar Jar Binks: "Senators, Dellow Felegats,..."

I listened to the Jedi commentary a few days ago, and Lucas does indeed say that he toyed with the idea of showing Boba Fett blasting his way out of the Sarlacc. But once that action scene gets going it flows pretty well, so splicing in a brand new shot (or shots) of Boba would ruin the pacing.

You can't add it in at the end of the scene either, as we cut straight from the surface of Tatooine to the Falcon and Luke's X-Wing in space. If Lucas had kept the sandstorm farewell scene, then a new Boba scene could've possibly gone before that. Imagine it...as the heroes zoom off into the distance on their skiff, the camera pulls back to the Sarlacc pit. Suddenly it blows up from the inside, and amidst the smoke and Sarlacc innards emerges a bloody but unbowed Boba Fett. The camera lingers for a second or two - perhaps accompanied by that sinister Boba music cue from Empire - and then we wipe to the sandstorm scene.

(I hope that they add some slash marks to the people that Luke attacks during the Sail Barge assault, as his wifflebat lightsaber is a ****ing joke.)

As for the Polish/German trooper dubbing, don't forget that Stormtroopers are supposed to still have some Jango clones in their ranks by the time of New Hope. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple of redone lines, especially in the original film. I just hope that Tem Morrison puts a bit more effort into it than his awful Empire readings.

And then I vomit in my mouth, because Boba Fett has nothing to do in the film once Han semi-accidentally kills him. What, Boba emerges from the Sarlacc, they play his theme and then...what? If Lucas did what you asked, audiences would spend the rest of the movie waiting for him to show up again. This ain't Robot Chicken, it aint fan fiction, and it isnt the craptacular EU slucegate - it's Return of the Jedi.

Relax Ernest, it's a 'what if'. I didn't "ask" for anything, and I like the movie just fine as it is.
