On to Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D, Bleeding Cool spoke to Matt Bristowe, Head of Production at Prime Focus, who is overseeing the conversion, and got the confirmation that all work has been completed and signed off on by George Lucas himself.

the OT looks way better than 2+3 ever will-

but the OT doesn't look different from the HDTV broadcast other than being a bit sharper-

Don't you guys think Darth Maul should have been the featured bad guy in the OT. I wish he was in all three films, and that we got deeper into his story.

They will look a thousand times better on an uncompressed blu ray, don't forget you are watching a youtube rendering.

I was about to say that. YouTube compresses everything to death. Your cable or satellite provider's 1080i HD will look better than a 1080p YouTube video most of the time.

I hope all the trailers and TV spots are included on each special features disc in HD, but then again, it starts to really eat into the 40 hours of features!

yeah, i'm not even sure why youtube gives the 1080p option - i ripped the podrace video from youtube in 1080p it was a garbled gook mess of compression-

Check these 1080p clips from BDs that I have uploaded and you'll notice how compressed they look when compared to the BD. If only I could figure out why there's a 1.5 second audio delay when I upload these clips.

yeah- fact-

if youtube wasn't ran by google- even the 720p would probably be gone by now, i'm sure most people don't even bother to watch the videos in 720p-

the 1080 option is just useless though

One thing that Lucas forgot to improve (regarding his 'vision') - look at Dack's shoulder harness... The "reflective material" is merely a strip of Bubble Wrap.

LOL

Yeah, the coloring still isn't quite right. In general it all has this weird tinge to it. It's almost as if they used Tropical Skittles as the pallette basis for the color timing back in 2004 (and those effects are still present here).

I knew it would not be too long before the nitpicking and complaining would start. I say like it or lump it. Stick to the 2004 dvd's.

I'm going BLU.

I'm sorry for ripping off your post, I was so angry at the colour of Dack and it's free publicity my friend! i could go back an edit my post mentioning your name if you like? and by the way, I'm all woman...

(I just gave you credit for your quote and pic on ot.com Mr Merlinpants)

No, that's fine, I was only joking. glad you agreed, it stuck out like a sore thumb to me when I saw it. And boy oh boy, if your photo on OT is anything to go by, you are ALL woman!

Thanks for the updated mention, I feel important now

So the bonus material will all be in sd/480p the same quality as the '04 dvd release?

this is exactly why I've been tracking down used copies of the DVDs (plus all of my prequel discs have weird radial scratches, I've only played them on my PS3 for the last 3 years, so it must have happened before that... odd)

Picked up the 2004 box for $30 (i wouldn't have spent a penny more, but was so happy to find it after a while of searching, in great shape and I'm loving the bonus disc) and replaced my Ep. I with the widescreen version.

Now I just need to get AOTC and ROTS in Wide and find the limited editions of Episodes IV and V and I'll be set
