I don't get involved in all the silly arguments over laser weapon colors and which version of Jabba to use and whether Yoda should be puppet or CGI and I don't even care who shoots first.

But on this one, I think using Hayden is wrong. It's wrong for one simple reason: How does Luke know who he is? Ever since Lucas stuck Hayden in there, I've always felt that Luke should have said, "Hey Yoda...who's that guy with you and Obi-Wan?" It's not a younger Obi-Wan and it's not a younger Yoda. Why is it a younger Anakin? I don't buy the argument that it's Anakin before he turned to the dark side, because even if that's true, Luke still wouldn't recognize him.

But with all the other logical flaws in the film, I guess this one isn't much worse than the others. For me, the interesting story would have been the sequel to Episode VI: once the galaxy finds out that Vader is dead but that he was Luke's father, do they hold Luke (or Leia) responsible? Do they think he was actually a spy or a co-conspirator? Etc.

He knows through the force.

Vader hasn't seen Obi-Wan in who-knows-how-many years, yet as soon as he sees him on the Death Star "we meet again, Obi-Wan"

They're both strong with the force, they just know

OR they could just perform fresh, new 2011-level work on all the material like other movies. Oh wait this is Star Wars, so doing less is what we want because Star Wars is so very special. Give me less! We like it when Guns of Navarone gets more effort!

Well if I knew someone since I was a kid and I hadn't seen them in years, I would still reconize them. So I don't think Vader needed to use the force in ANH to know it was Obi Wan. The force argument is the only explanation I have ever seen to explain this, and for me it isn't enough to make sense out of it.

I feel like the force can be used as a way of writing off any plot inconsistincy, and it just seems sloppy to me. That's what everyone says is the reason Leia remembers her mother even though she dies as an infant. So why wouldn't Luke he is strong with the force, and at that point even stronger that Leia.

You don't think it would cost a pretty penny to restore the Original Trilogy from scratch, considering the effects work?

I know he's got the scratch to do it but that's still money.

Frink: Yes, over here, n'hey, n'hey. In episode BF12, you were battling barbarians while riding a winged Appaloosa, yet in the very next scene, my dear, you're clearly atop a winged Arabian. Please to explain that.

Lucy Lawless: Ah, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that, a wizard did it.

Frink: I see, all right, yes, but in episode AG14...

Lawless: Wizard!

Frink: Aw, for glaven out loud.

If there's a movie where money shouldn't be an issue, it's this one.

If they do a full restoration at 4K, or perhaps higher, it's reasonable to assume that's the last time they'll ever need to restore it, since you're getting essentially everything that's possible to get from the negative, and I don't see the demands of movie resolution needing to increase past that (other than speciality venues like IMAX), since 4K is comfortably beyond the ability of your eyes to resolve at any normal viewing distance. Lucas unfortunately seems to like jumping the gun on not-quite-there technologies.

Jumpman, The restoration would cost LESS than Guns of Navarone by a huge margin. The vast bulk of the work was already done in 1997 and released theatrically no less. "Restoring" the 1997 version is like restoring SCREAM 2 or any other movie from 1997. (The extra effort on top of that to get it back to '77 if you wanted to, only involves about 10 minutes of film!)

Not saying you're not right but you have to at least think about the amount of effects work they'd have to almost go back and redo from scratch.

Hell, Matthew Wood's being working on the audio for the Blu Rays for 4 years. It's not like Lucas isn't putting any effort into this release.

So any word on what Best Buy's in store price will be on the day this goes on sale? Hopefully the same as Amazon or lower. And could this thread actually reach 50,000 posts?! At this rate it might.

Okay. We still haven't seen the full results of these discs yet so I'm not going to condemn the damn release.

The Fellowship of the Ring is from the 2k digital films. Despite the slight green subtitles, look how that Blu Ray turned out.

Does anyone know if the deleted 'N Sync deleted scene in Ep. II is a dance sequence? I haven't heard any information about it regarding the bonus features.

I personally don't care what has been done to these movies. When Lucas first started altering the OT I was around 11, and I remember thinking the new footage and things he did was great. So I grew up with the alterations, and look forward to see what else he has done to the movies (and if he didn't do anything, that's OK too!). I love each version of Star Wars, and I'll be more than thrilled to have these movies in my hands!

I do however understand other people's frustrations over not getting each version of the movies on BD.

Not to mention people have actually told Lucas that they would pay for the restoration! He would not have to spend one single dime....

Didn't one of the Lucasfilm or Fox people all but confirm it's an easter egg?

Why would they have to do any effects work from scratch? I think we're talking about 2 different things.
