The disrespect for the art of film and film history in this thread is pretty depressing. I guess every film ever made needs to be updated every ten years to add new elements so they can be considered watchable to shallow, ignorant, video-game addicted plebes. Film grain in crossfades and other opticals? Matte lines? THE HORROR!!!

Han: I don't think they'd like another killing in here.
Greedo: They'd hardly notice. Get up.

Han: Yes, I bet you have.

First, Greedo was pointing his gun on Solo the entire time. Second, he wanted to kill him outside but Greedo gives him the clue that no one would notice in here so, knowing he's going to be killed he blows him away first.
it is funny how many scenes in star wars have extended versions - a snip here or there cut for pacing which makes little changes to the story. a lot of fans still don't know solo had a woman with him at the table in the original movie. sure changes his motives towards leah when you know - makes it look like he is using her to move up the ladder since he already had someone but obviously they were not that important.

It is a long read but well worth it.

Its an excellent read, but Kaminski really needed an editor. This book was wayyyy too long. Half of it could have been trimmed down.

I don't think she was anymore than a hanger-on a bar-hussy, Solo was one of the only humans in the bar. It was the 70's multi-species dating was still frowned upon....

A bit like the pilot of The X-Files were Mulder talks to Scully in bed after their first adventure together. In the deleted scenes her boyfriend is lying next to her. It took all the intimacy out of the scene.

Not sure if it's been answered but are the extras for the Blu's going to be shown in those windows? I'm not sure I like having the [some of] extras displayed like that I hope they have a fullscreen option.

And will the Blu's be able to rotate the models like the iPhone App?

Regarding added stuff does anyone think Lucas will put some sort of flashback sequence in ROTJ.

You know like when Luke is getting fried we see Vader acting as though he is having some sort of flashback moment can we expect something like that.

It seems that editing her out was maybe an early sign of Lucas knowing where he wanted to move Han's character arc.

I wonder if the Flash Gordon vs Stilt Monster footage is going to be on the deleted scenes and other Lost Cut footage, that we have not seen yet.

I agree..

IMO, I always thought that the best part to put the flashback scene on is when Luke removed Vader's helmet right after the moment he said "You were right about me..." and they will give us a fully blown Jedi theme in the background instead of the existing music which I guess lacks the emotional push of the scene...

His book isn't accurate as he thinks it is.

All his book showed was the unique process that is filmmaking and how an art can evolve from the first intentions to when it's finally done.

All he showed was that Lucas started Star Wars one way and over time he decided to evolve it pass what he originally intended. That's all his book shows.

Cool, thanks. Interesting that they re-did some scenes in ESB and ROTJ. I'm sure they redid others this guy didn't even notice.

I don't mind touchups at all, especially not for this HD release.

"The scene at the Sarlacc Pit has been digitally altered to include changes to the Sarlacc and to Jabba's barge as well as slight changes to Jabba who is now digitally expressive."

That's big news.

And I'm willing to bet Episode V Yoda will have little tweaks as well.

Attack Of The Clones was released in Imax without any complaints.

12/03/02 10:15 PM
I just saw Attack of the Clones on IMAX and here is my question:
The movie was shot in digital (something like 1920 X 1080 pixels I'm told) and transfered to the 70mm Imax format. by my calculations (1080 lines divided by an 80ft. screen) each line should be roughly 1 inch high. But I looked and damned if I could find ANY pixelization, vertical or horizontal. How do they do this?

http://forums.howwhatwhy.com/showfla...-222100&fpart=.

More people complained at how the 35mm segments of the Dark Knight looked grainy on Imax!

When the first scene shot in 35mm began, the difference was stark. Film grain suddenly became visible and the clarity dropped significantly.

Greedo still shoots first in this version (although you may still see an original version of that scene in the set – hint, hint).

Strange though that they have been to what appears to be the exact same presentation as every other preview, but they are the only ones to mention this? Are IGN known for their reliability?

Edit: Yes they are. Han shoots first, but only in the deleted/extended scenes section on the disc.

http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/...825-1jb1v.html

Included in the 40 hours of special features in the latest release is original footage from iconic Star Wars moments, with the sound as it was recorded, not as it was later overdubbed.

That means that instead of generic American voices for characters, the cockney twang of British actors can be clearly heard in scenes filmed at London's Pinewood Studios. And it's hilarious stuff. Most amusing is the ''Cantina scene'' where Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Obi Wan Kenobi (Sir Alec Guinness) drop into their local boozer to find a pilot who will take them off the planet.

''Oi!'' shouts the bartender in his best East End twang as they arrive: ''Get ya plates o' meat back up the apples and pears! We don't serve their kind in 'ere!'' Or words to that effect.

Soon after we cut to a shot of Han, sitting in a booth, snogging a hitherto unseen date. Any leads on where the girl cut from the biggest movie of all time is now, will be greatfully received.

Later, the alien thug Greedo wanders up to tear strips off Han Solo (Harrison Ford) for not paying his debts … and instead of the bleeps and gurgles fans are used to, once again he sounds like he should be pushing a barrow full of eel pies. (Oh, and for purists: Star Wars' creator has let the scene run long enough to finally clear up a long-debated point: yep, Han shot first.)
Here, sorry on my iPhone so couldn't amend the other post.

I think Lucasfilm has mixed in cgi with puppet for Yoda to make him look more realistic.

Note** I don't think Yoda will be full cgi just partially cgi

I don't like how IGN claims that Greedo still shoots first then a few sentences later says "we heard there are some more changes to the Blu Ray version though we haven't actually seen them at all and have no clue what they are". It should hardly be a confirmation.

The Australian article is interesting. Hopefully they really did touch up the Sarlaac unless the author forgot that they did that change back in 1997.

In the movie Greedo does shoot first as he did on the DVD. But there will be a deleted scene where you can see the original scene with only Han shooting.

Edit: The deleted scene including Greedo is called "Cantina roughcut"
