There are weird vertical lines going across the image, I think it's some kind of transfer thing. Maybe the scanner was on the fritz.

They don't look too bad.

You can still see some grain, so they haven't completely removed it. Just reduced it in some areas.

It's obvious that very high quality film was used, along with how young Natalie Portman and Jake Lloyd were at the time, it may look like their close ups have received quite a bit of DNR, but in reality I don't think they have.

The Phantom Menace still looks better than it pretty much ever has. So I'm excited to "See it again, for the first time!"

Wow,

I'm really disappointed to hear about the lack of lossless English in the Germany/Spain release... It's too bad that other countries have to do without lossless English just because of one country. The original audio track should ALWAYS have priority.

It looks like all of those shots were taken while the actors were moving, so the lack of sharpness can be attributed to motion blur or the scene being out of focus.

Seems like someone is intentionally trying to deceive us with these shots. Why not take pics throughout ROTJ, instead of just the Endor scenes?
I agree the one of luke and emperor in ROTJ was freaking fantastic. These shots has definitely been manipulated with

I keep going back and forth on this. Those shots, while obviously smoothed over, wouldn't be enough to keep me from enjoying it (especially in comparison to the dvd), but I'm terrified of more shots like the Qui-Gon one.

EDIT: Just popped these up on my hdtv, and I think they look damn good (especially the Anakin shot).

Don't be it was a scene in motion. Some are trying to make the PQ look bad on purpose as seen of the ROTJ shots now being posted with lines across the screen. And we all have seen the Luke and Emperor screenshot from ROTJ and they look marvelous

look at this

You sure love to throw out spurious accusations. I think like 3 different people have noticed those scenes and screencapped it, I guess they're all in on it

I don't agree. But the original Audio track should be threated the same way. For sure.
I will watch the OT only in German so i want the best Audio Quality possible.

They should have made a set only for Germany/Austria/Switzerland with English and German Audio Track both in HD and no other tracks.

Cannot wait till the 16th. I should take a personal day from work so I can enjoy the movies as soon as the UPS man drops off my package.

but none of those are from the scenes that were posted showing heavy filtering. Just because most of a movie looks good doesn't imply that the whole movie looks good.

Are you dense? It's a very short section of ROTJ that has decreased clarity, exists on the HDTV and DVD versions. Likely due to filming error on the original negative.

These samples from TPM are incredible. I still think the bluray transfer was a little to diligent with grain cleanup, but nonetheless they look really good. It proves beyond any doubt that the previous samples people were fretting about were either:
  • Isolated cases of soft focus and motion blur in select scenes, or
  • Isolated cases of bad DNR in select scenes, or
  • Screenshots from badly converted MKV files by the pirates
If anything, this proves that people shouldn't make snap judgements about a Blu-Ray release based on snippets from pirated downconverted sources.

C'mon now. We don't need to further encourage the "Us Vs. Them" mentality.

Everyone brings their own bias to their opinions of the films. Some go too far on both sides.

Best to judge for yourself anyway. Who cares what the so-called "Professionals" say. I tend to avoid the reviewer's opinion of the films.

I only really use reviews for details of the specs and the extras. Because nobody is capable of truly being unbiased.

by treating the original audio track the same way, would be giving it the priority-

so you do agree.
